Just gonna say Led Zeppelin didn't split cause of internal differences, they split because Bonham died and Plant thought it would be disrespectful to go on without him. My ex was 9 years younger then me. Her sister, about 4 more years younger, got kicked out of her mother's house & moved in with us in the early '80s. She was a total heavy metalhead, tweaker & hated old music. 5 years later, I guess I must have gotten to her. She distained Ozzy & most heavy metal & was absolutely hooked on Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, The Moody Blues The Kinks & The Stones and still is to this day. The first hook i got in her was "Where have all the good times gone?" & "You Really Got Me". Never been more proud of myself for saving a persons soul.

Essentially what you have to do to evaluate if a band is overrated is compare them to their contemporaries. Beatles and Dylan were light years ahead of their competition, LIGHTYEARS. Btw, the King Crimson album gatefold on the outside shows a ball (or sound..?) travelling into his right ear. The movie The Graduate soundtrack is basically from those three albums

I consider 2 albums to be perfect-first note to last. Simon & Garfunkel-Bookends (some might think Voices Of Old People detracts from the perfection but I think it fits nicely) and Nick Drake-Bryter Layter (again, I've had people criticize the song Poor Boy but I think it's an integral part of a perfect album).
@MikeGervasi7 жыл бұрын
Listen, out of those 3 S&G albums Bookends is clearly the best. It's the most focused and as close to a concept album for them as you'll get. Totally cohesive and a fantastic ride the entire album. The one S&G everyone must own.

The Bee Gees were amazing as a disco era band as well... all the song writing, composing and performing talent they developed in the 60s came with them into the 70s. WOW, very interesting video. Where to start?? The Beatles, side two of Abbey Road plays like pretty much one song. Seriously, all the music runs together and that is fantastic. Can you play only one cut from that LP side?? Of course the drum solo near the end sounds awesome (if you have speakers with good bass response). I did want to comment on the King Crimson disc. For years I had to put up with surface noise on the cut "In the Court of the Crimson King" You know, that really quiet passage (with the wire brushes), man, talk about dynamic range! Not until a CD version did I truly experience the "silence" on that song. Breathtaking, to say the least. Lastly Simon and Garfunkel do have superb harmonies. I saw CSN do an acoustic show in the 1990's and that was something too, fantastic harmonies. I lived in NYC (well grew up there) in the 1980's and remember the Central Park free concert that Simon and Garfunkel performed. The smell of weed was so thick you could cut it with a knife, I did contribute to that smoke cloud. Funny, nobody got busted??? Thanks for a good video, some good LP picks. Coulda stuck in the Kinks Kronikles, but that's my opinion.

Growing up I really didn't like the beatles, mostly because I didnt get to experience the full albums and just heard singles. But after getting into record collecting I found myself buying and listening to more and more beatles records. Especially the post-rubber soul stuff. One of my favorite pieces in my collection is my toshiba-emi "pro-use" copy of Abbey Road. Just a comment on King Crimson pressings. The recent 200g king crimson reissues authorized by robert frip sound really really good. To me on my system they sound much better than original US pressings (enough for me to sell mine). Of course as with most british rock, the original UK pressings are still king, but for Court, an original pink island pressing is unobtainable for most. I only have one original UK pressing of their catalog (Lizard) and it absolutely smokes every other version I've heard.
