FX30 with the Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 or the Sony 11mm f/1.8.

@dericsanchez40813 ай бұрын
@@erwinmarionneauxI’d pick it for the ibis.
@erwinmarionneaux3 ай бұрын
Makes sense! The ibis wouldn’t be much help for vlogging though. Ibis is mainly a photography feature or for keeping a shot steady when you’re not trying to move. The zve10 does have active stabilization which would be much more effective for vlogging
@dericsanchez40813 ай бұрын
@@erwinmarionneaux I tried the zve10 for a while and just didn’t like how shaky it was with my sigma lenses. And the digital stabilization cropped in too much for me.

Great video and channel. Love my ZV-E1. For the past year, I have been running it with a Viltrox 16mm 2.8. Works great with the Dynamic Stabilization. And it takes screw on filters. I dont think it works with the breathing compensation though.

Great video, Erwin. I've been using a GoPro Hero 9 Black to shoot videos for my metal detecting channel, but it has some serious limitations. What I like about it: Durability, hands-free voice control, external mic, OK image quality. What I don't like about it: No ability to focus close up. I'm looking for a new camera that will be as durable and hands-off as possible (metal detecting is a dirty, gritty hobby!), but will autofocus at a medium distance, then rack to a close focus when I bring an item up to the lens. External mic is optional if the built-in mic is good and has a windscreen. Voice control would be ideal. Is there such a camera out there???
@erwinmarionneaux8 күн бұрын
Ahh let’s see! You definitely need an action camera because durability isn’t optional for your use case. The dji osmo action 5 minimum focus distance is about 14 inches. The ability to rack focus probably wont be a thing because no durable camera would be able to do that. So if you don’t need to get closer than 14 inches, you have options. If you need closer than that, you’ll have to sacrifice a bit of durability
@OldAsDirtRelicHunting8 күн бұрын
@@erwinmarionneaux Well, dang. I'm not sure that will be close enough. I'd like viewers to be able to see a coin up close in my hand. Do you think a Sony ZV-1F would survive those conditions?
@OldAsDirtRelicHunting7 күн бұрын
@@erwinmarionneaux Yeah, that's the conclusion I came to as well. I decided to buy a used Sony ZV-1F and protect it as much as possible with a cage, screen protector, filter, etc.

Use the Nisi true color variable ND. The 1-5 stop threads onto the lens, then an extra 4 stop filter slides on top, making it 5-9 that you can quickly take off to be 1-5 again
@erwinmarionneaux3 ай бұрын
I tried that as well. The nisi filters don’t support lenses wider than 18mm and no wider than 20mm when you add the additional filter on top. I also tried a similar setup with polar pro. I prefer their filters but ultimately didn’t like having an extra filter to manage taking on and off

ZV E10 mark 2, no IBIS, a no go. 1.5x crop and still shaky.
@erwinmarionneauxАй бұрын
What do you mean?
@bastian.michelАй бұрын
@erwinmarionneaux The Sony ZV-E10 Mark II is, in my opinion, a dealbreaker because it lacks in-body image stabilization (IBIS). This means the footage will often look shaky if you're shooting handheld, unless you use additional equipment like a gimbal or a tripod. The 1.5x crop happens during 4K video recording, which further reduces the field of view. This makes it harder to shoot wide-angle videos, even if you're using wide-angle lenses. Essentially, you're getting a more zoomed-in image, but the lack of IBIS still results in shaky footage. To summarize: The combination of a cropped image and the absence of stabilization makes the camera less appealing, especially for scenarios like vlogging or handheld shooting, where stabilization and a wide field of view are crucial.
@erwinmarionneauxАй бұрын
Ibis is mainly a photography feature, it has electronic stabilization which is more useful for video, especially vlogging. Other than that, it’s basically the same camera as the Sony a6700. Pair it with the 11mm f1.8 and you’ll have a very wide field of view for vlogging and great stabilization.

I thought about the zeiss lens but it isn’t compatible with focus breathing compensation so it didn’t make the list. It’s a solid option other than that though!

I didn’t forget it, I’ve used it for a while to try it out. I have a few issues with it but mainly the fact that I can’t use focus breathing compensation, the size of the lens, not being able to maximize stabilization, and the hassle of using f1.8 made it not worth considering for me personally

An 11mm or 12mm would be perfect for apsc for vlogging if you don’t want to go tighter than a true 24mm because after the apsc & active stabilization crop you’ll be at about ~22mm & ~24mm respectively. Sony makes an 11mm f1.8 at about 500$ if anyone’s interested. This is what I’m aiming to get for my “perfect” vlogging set up
