Hello guys, for those of you that already have a plastic palette you could use a green scrubbing pad to clean the painting surface and avoid the paint separation. This works most of the time. Enjoy painting!

I'm glad to hear you mention the extra paint wells causing an unwanted mixture with the corresponding row when closed. I don't know why they designed palettes that way. Even if you wait for the paint to dry, you can't be sure they all dry at the same time. Good reviews!

Another tip, I use m. Graham watercolors and you can download a chart from their website. Make two copies and use one to cut out the names and label the wells. Print the other copy on sticker paper and stick it on the of the well.

Alvaro Castagnet uses that last palette but of my other two famous favorite watercolorists, neither Joseph Zbukvic nor Herman Pekel uses one. I see them using simple inexpensive ones painting en plein air. Thanks for sharing. Its so amazing how many palettes are out there to choose from. I prefer porcelain because I hate stained palettes. I find that even the coated metal palettes stain. Mine have and I hate using them.

I sprayed two of my plastic palettes with enamel paint. I gave them two to three coats but it didn’t work. Paint still beaded up. So I bought a small ceramic palette. I also came across a lovely china dinner plate with a rim adorned with what look like shallow wells all around. Beautiful surface.

...plate with little wells all around? sounds like one of those plates for boiled eggs and salad that were fashionable when i was a child 60 yrs ago! Yes, that would be a great palette, I'll have to look in my local second hand shops for one.... thanks for the idea...

I have seen on KZbin a plate you are describing. I hope you will find one - they would be very rare. I don't even know what they are called. I will grab one if I see one myself! Mine is a dinner plate but it serves as a palette very well. Good luck in your hunting :) PS: I paid a good money for a well designed metal one but sadly paint/water still beads up. Ceramic/porcelain is the best. You can't go wrong.

I usually use a big, glass "Counter Saver" by Corning as they are pure white and perfectly flat - that means absolute control over the paint. I can paint all the way to the edges but the surface tension keeps it on the glass. I have found the best thing for cleaning any palette is the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser - there is nothing better. I like to make my palette pure white again after each painting and the Counter Saver looks brand new every time. Try one and see what you think. It doesn't replace the palette with the wells, as it's perfectly flat, but it's great for extra mixing area. $440 for a palette? And you are limited with those round mixing areas? I think I would be disappointed as the ring wouldn't fit me and it would make it not lay flat. I love my glass palettes and they only cost me a total of $20 as I found 2 of them in thrift stores - a huge one and a little one. I am looking for a good travel palette, so you have given me a good fix for my acrylic one with the enamel paint trick. I will give it a try. Thanks!

@raulishnikovdancer2346

***** Those holes are for carrying standing brushes... If you have your pallete on a table won't work. But if you are holding it in your hand as you paint you can put a few standong brushes on those holes, of course you need them to be in various handle sizes to fit in them.

Hi, Thank you for your question. I am sure any white enamel spray paint from your hardware store will be ok. I particularly like to use the brand Testor. This paint comes in small cans and are usually use to paint those plastic scale model airplanes that you find at hobby shops or Michael's craft stores. This paint tend to leave a thicker film of paint. The other thing you can try before you spend any money, is to scrub your plastic palette with those green scrubbing pads used to clean dishes.

The brass expensive ones are neat but I use almost exactly the same thing made of heavy plastic.( for $40.00) The brass one is heavy also- I'm sure most of the well known artists that have the brass one' is because the maker has given it to them! Good advertising!

I'm just a beginner and I wonder what those holes at a big palette are for?
@hansyaeggy
@hansyaeggy 10 жыл бұрын
Hi, Thank you for your question. When you asked about the holes in a big palette, I am not sure witch palette or what holes you are referring to, but in any case, let me explain few things about palettes. If you are referring to the palette described in my video minute 4:53 these holes, are used for two things: The very big hole in the left side, is the one you used to bring your thumb through so you can hold the palette in your hand; the other small holes are used to hold your watercolor brushes, and that is the reason why they are much smaller than the first one in the left. Every manufacture have it's own design, perhaps the palette at the minute 12:29 instead of a using a hole, it used a small ring in the bottom of the palette so you can get your thumb through. I hope this explanation answer your question. If you like to see more paintings, I like the opportunity to invite you to follow me in Instagram #hansyaeggy Thank you for watching my video.

Janet Garcia It's one of a kind, all hand made, that's how it's expensive...but I do agree the price is a wee bit too much. It could be £150 - 180 and I don't think he would lose money. And that way a lot more folks can enjoy his palettes...

+therealb3yond I think owning something handmade, by someone who takes pride in their craft, is why most are gravitated towards these products. $400 for a watercolor painting done by a pro doesn't seem outlandish. Why does $400 for something handmade, by someone who is just as skilled at what they do, seem ridiculous?

Because there are a multitude of other palettes which are equally as good, if not better than this one. It's a fine palette but let's not pretend that anyone who buys this isn't doing it simply for the luxury of being able to say they have it.

People buy what they enjoy and what they can afford. Of course you can do the same with cheaper palettes, you can also get from A to B on a bicycle or in a Ferrari. People who buy cheap usually buy at least twice. I`m on my 4th or 5th palette by now and am finally considering a heavier brass palette.

Handmade palettes are works of art on their own. Granted there are artworks that are priced at 400 dollars but makes me feel like I won't pay 400 dollars for it. But there will be others who would like that type of art. No need to speak negatively about that artwork or worse about the people who appreciate that same artwork.
