I'm testing student and professional grade paints for watercolors: Cotman vs. Winsor and Newton Professional.
What is the difference between student and professional watercolour paint? Are artist quality watercolors worth it? Do they improve our painting skills?
Let's find out!
Thank you for watching!
✅ Stuff I use:
* Cotman Watercolor Set: amzn.to/3ToE1ET
* Winsor & Newton Professional Water Colour Lightweight Metal Box, 24 Half Pans: amzn.to/3JCYksN
* Arches 100% cotton paper A4: amzn.to/40CDyB1
* Heat Gun for Crafts: amzn.to/459CKF6
✅ My filming gear:
* Canon M50 Mark II: amzn.to/3DQM5FB
* Canon M200: amzn.to/3TZf5T1
* Samsung A52: amzn.to/3fLbtVg
* Rode Mic: amzn.to/3Uj09OR
* Neewer Soft Box Lighting Kit: amzn.to/3DStY2t
Please know that most of the projects I do on this channel were not originally created by me. I'm either using templates I find online or taking inspiration from awesome watercolor artists. I do not sell any of the art I make, I'm merely trying to help you improve and, when you're starting out, taking inspiration from other artists to train really is the best way to go.

This is my verdict guys, what it yours? Do you think professional is worth the extra money? Let me know what you think and enjoy!

I would say it depends. If you have the money for it, if watercolor painting is something you're really invested in and even make a living out of it, by all means, go all out on an Artist/Professional grade watercolor set. Personally, I can't possibly afford or justify shelling out 14€ for a single tube of paint (Daniel Smith), when I can grab some cheap Van Gogh for 3,50€ a piece. But hey, to each their own and that's the beauty of things. 🥰

I’ve always been happy with my little Cotman set. I also use DaVinci and Kuretaki and Daniel Smith but still really like the Cotman set.

Spread and control is one character where artists are almost equally divided. At this point it's generally accepted that it's a matter of personal taste. The spread test should be a draw.

Thank you for your input. I'm finding out more and more that most things in watercolors are a matter or personal taste hehehe which makes sense, it's art, it's supposed to be personal and everything is acceptable. Have a great day!

@@sandyowncrafts You are absolutely right. In most forums and reviews people wholeheartedly endorse Van Gogh for it's vibrancy and wettability which is really good, I must say. Whereas most people share bad experiences with Cotman. Last month I got both because they were available for cheap and I like my Cotmans much more than Van Gogh although their only redeeming quality is their transparency which I value above everything else...
