Yeah, that's what I was thinking too... On my friend's realm, we built a nether railway and we had conversations about how we should have made it go diagonally instead of in cardinal directions... I think it still would have been easier to redo it than to put down 2km of this, though.

If you're planning to make a railway system make sure it's above ground like a roller coaster. It helps from bumping into entities like pigs, cows, etc. But I'm probably too late 😅

it's a waste of time for people that want to have a railway system that goes back and forth, not to mention that using portals are the trend rn (edit: Speaking of which, making a railway system in the nether seems pretty good. Just be mindful of all those pesky ghasts by making an enclosed space) Another thing to add, if anyone wants to build a railway system in survival either way make sure to build it above ground so mobs don't get in the way

No, but Minecraft isn't written in JavaScript, it's written in Java (confusing names, i know). But, to answer your actual question, Java (and JavaScript, for that matter) does not have a native vector normalizing function. Luckily for everyone, though, vector normalization is relatively simple and does exist within Minecraft (or else running diagonally would be faster than running forward). This leaves the rather odd question of what exactly is happening here? The answer is pretty boring, the carts are just programmed to go faster on turned rails.
