Great video Mike! You're right, 5Ghz doesn't seem to like walls too much. In some areas of our home, the signal is just too weak. May look more into a similar setup, that's why I love your channel! Keep up the awesome work my friend!

Great vids, thanks! I'm a newbie trying to understand this stuff. Question, I recently bought a NAS. Can't you connect it directly to your modem? Do you need a router for that setup? What else might I need?

You can connect it to your router USB connection. It's a pretty easy setup. A modem cannot connect to a NAS. Thank you for watching and if you subscribed thank you as well.

This is the way My network closet is in my garage, but all of my rooms only have a single ethernet port. I ran 2 cables from the garage to just on the other side of the garage wall and huge improvement on signal, plus no longer concerned about the humidity impacting the router performance.

Hello, thank you for the video. I have a small 1400 sq ft home with 3 levels. I have my Netgear Nighthawk X6 (AC3200) router on my top level. I just setup some security cameras around the home and a couple in my detached garage. I am barely getting a signal out there and it is only 40 ft away. Since all my cameras are on the same network I can't use my Netgear ac1200 range extender due to I can only pair all my cameras to the same 2.4 wifi network. Can you purchase better high-strength antennas? I have been checking, but can't seem to figure this out (not an IT guy, Lol).

Simply running an ethernet cable from your modem to a different room maybe along the baseboard or through a small hole in the wall into a different room. Some people run etherent under carpet but that would be my last option. It's better to run the cable along the walls or through the ceiling attic space. Thank you for watching.

Do you know why the IP address changed? This appears to be a simple lift and shift of the router.

Not sure maybe because it was a different location so it created another IP addres.s.. That never happened before but it's something to be aware of. Especially when you try to login to the admin screen and the original IP address doesn't work. I had to check an acces point for its gateway IP to figure it out! Lol

Ha. My mom didn't want new holes, and my technician wasn't able to pass through the fibe 3GB Bell cable to the first floor. Damn giga hub is downstairs in that closet. Sucks.
