Currently supplying one neighbor via a wired connection and want to securely connect three more neighbors via cat 6 and a edge router and v-lans. My ISP uses a edge router for a modem. I know just enough about networking to get myself in trouble and, therefore, would be willing to pay you to help me design a network and get it up and running.

@UltimateTechHub2 ай бұрын
PoE is for Cameras mainly and also for PoE Access Points. 10gb can be achieved through your Network from one computer to another ( Massive File Transfers ) but you need 10gb compatible PCs. So for your situation 10gb is not necessary. Thanks for watching!

This was informative but I'm terrible at this stuff and still feel lost. I have what I think is the combo router/modem that came from ISP and I hardwired my laptop to it via ethernet cable on the second floor of my two storey plus basement home for best connection but the signal on the other two floors isn't great. What should I do?
@UltimateTechHub12 күн бұрын
I'd recommend a mesh Wi-Fi system for better coverage, and perhaps a wired ethernet cable connection in your basement. ISP combos are not very good and I recommend you buy a Mesh system like Netgear or ASUS. The mesh nodes will solve your signal issues.

@bobbyfischersays126212 күн бұрын
@@UltimateTechHub appreciate the response. These wifi mesh systems: they consist of a new combo modem/router plus nodes, correct? And I'll be replacing the one from my ISP with the new one from the mesh kit, then dropping nodes on the other two floors, then plugging in an ethernet cable to connect my mesh node to my laptop in the basement because it's the farthest from the modem/router? Do I have all that correct? PS I have liked, shared, and subscribed. I really appreciate this.
@UltimateTechHub12 күн бұрын
@bobbyfischersays1262 I would ask ypur ISP for just a modem. Then the Mesh WiFi would be the main rotuer and the nodes. You place the other 2 nodes on different floors wirelessly or you could wire them if you want a better signal. Check with your ISP and see what they say. Keep me posted.

@vashnator I would run some heavy duty cat6 or cat6a in conduit or some sort of PVC. If you can run along a wall that would be great. Otherwise you could run it in trench. Just make sure the pipes are water tight

lets say a hypothetical i have a 1 router with a 5 Lan ports connected to ISP provided device, my router connects to an 8 port switch (netgear unmanaged), this connects to a filedump nas which then connects to a 40tb nas and 24 tb Nas, i find the throughput when copying from file dump to othe NAS drops a lot until i reboot the switch. is there an optimal daisy ring scenario ? my file dump is connected to router others to switch
@UltimateTechHub10 ай бұрын
The optimal way I would do this is to get a 10gig managed switch instead of the unmanaged switch. You can control the throughput through each individual port and assign QoS and many other settings. Unmanaged switches are great for simple day to day tasks but your situation requires more data control. Tp-Link makes some affordable managed switches with 10gig ports. Keep me posted and thank you for watching I really appreciate it.

can you have issues with too many APs? My home is 6000 sq ft that includes garden and driveway, which is required as I have a large home automation system, working on zwave fibaro. the latency at times is a nightmare.
@JJFlores19723 күн бұрын
If you have too many APs too close to each other, they can definitely cause performance issues. You want some overlap in coverage so that you have a continuous connection while roaming around your property. I'm not familiar with ZWave, but from what I can tell, it operates at a much lower frequency compared to Wi-Fi so it shouldn't cause performance issues. There are a lot of variables when it comes to network latency, especially with wireless networks. If there are too many devices broadcasting on the same network bands, it will cause performance issues. You may need to manually adjust your AP settings to broadcast on a less congested frequency. Most APs and routers have an auto features but they it may not always be the most optimal.
