Yes, this is my motivation, I must learn Thai on my own from scratch, been visiting for over 32 years, so its high time. I cring at the way some westerns pronounce simple Thai place names such as Pattaya, I might not pronounce it accurately but they butcher it. Great video Khun Stuart Raj, Khub Khun Krap

I think a key part of developing proficiency in a language is ensuring you develop regular habits that will provide input and output. Reading Thai script means you have access to newspapers or KZbin generated subtitles to news reports. If you make sure you do a little of this every day, you can build vocabulary and skills as well as seeing and hearing authentic grammatical patterns. These tools look to be excellent for fine-tuning vowel sounds, some of which I got wrong for years and sometimes especially still do.

Yeah - once you can read - especially for people living in thailand, then every single step around town becomes a lesson. You can't help BUT learn

I just got back to Bangkok from a beautiful wedding for Thai friends in Chiang Mai. At some points I found myself away from my group of English speaking Thai friends and was forced to work with the Thai I'd acquired since August. August is important because that is when I started with Cracking Thai Fundamentals. I was surprised at how well I was able to communicate. When I couldn't, I worked around other avenues like verifying the spelling of a word they wanted me to say. I'm experiencing micro breakthroughs on a daily basis now. I can sound out just about anything I read on signs, stores, marketing, etc. I'm starting to notice phoneticizations of English, and pronounce Thai words more accurately. Being able to sound out Thai words eliminates the struggle of reading the inadequate spelling of English phoneticized Thai for locations in Thailand. Stu's tools are a very important part of my field and desk study, which really only amounts to about an hour or so a day. Ignore ANY learning source that indicates a "fast track" learning experience. Cracking Thai Fundamentals is where the rubber hit the road for me after struggling for over a year. This is the way.

Is the book available in digital? e.g. Kindle etc.
@StuartJayRaj23 күн бұрын
No - because of the nature of the book - an all the custom fonts (including ones i built myself), when initially putting it out, Amazon and I decided it was better to keep this as a book book. I have the online ctf programme and resources at jcademy, but the BOOK is complements it and fills in gaps, and is to be kept as a reference too. The new tools however are of course all digital - so you can use them all on your mobile.

I might not be able to speak Thai, but I can tell a good instructor when I see one, been watching Khun Stuart Raj on and off for awhile now I can say he is through, very detail oriented and meticulous.

Half my Thai vocabulary comes from lyrics from Thai music and I have read mani with spaces and I remember nearly all the words. After reading mani I can actually read lyrics on Thai music videos.

Yeh, AI is definitely a game changer (and your tools as well of course). Interesting you only mention using AI to analyse natural specimens. Do you think AI (e.g. ChatGPT) is reliable/good enough to create Thai content from scratch to help with learning?

Thai Grammar? What is the best resources for learning Thai Grammar?
@StuartJayRaj23 күн бұрын
there are several good grammars out there. Include a lot about structure in my book, but honestly, using things like these sentences and getting LLMs to customise grammar lessons based on that are super powerful especially as they get to know what you do and don't know ...including other languages, so can tailor grammatical explanations to you
