Given the Area of a triangle as bh/2 which is half base x height. The value should rather be 4m^2 not 8m^2. To the trapezoids, the denominator 2 must cancel out the height leaving a+b which should be 12m^2 instead of 24m^2. I stand to be corrected,

Your concept is true when you have a single triangle or a single trapezoid but in this case we have 2 triangles and 2 trapezoids The area of a single triangle is 4m² but since our roof has 2 sides on the left and on the right we get 4m² + 4m² = 8m² Similarly for the trapezoid, Since we have 2 trapezoids the one in front and the other behind, thats why I added 12+12 = 24m² Did I answer your question?
