Coming from someone who has an extensive competitive card game background and mentality and who doubly has an extensive background in poker. This video and metaphor presented really allowed me to retrain my brain for this game. I was getting frustrated trying to win every match which is an absurd thing to attempt to do if you equate it to trying to win every hand in poker

Agree with this too. I think the cubes add such a positive layer to the game and for me, helps me gain a better perspective on RETREATING. I sort of wanted Ranked Floors at first, but I think the fact people don’t often have all the cards and you can go up and downs weirdly makes the game feel more fair.

I think it'd key to mention the timings of when a snap takes effect. ie snapping works if you snap -before you play your cards and click end turn - after you click end turn, but your opponent hasnt and no cards have revealed Scenarios when the snap will "delay": if both players end turn and and/or cards are actively being revealed. Snapping here wont double the stakes until the start of the next turn.

Hey, you’re doing such a great job with the Marvel Snap stuff, and I’m excited to see where this content brings you. One suggestion I’d like to make is I would love to see a companion video to this one where you show examples of each of these concepts playing out. Like moments where you snapped before Green Goblin flips up into their negative zone or Killmonger decimates an Ultron Board vs when the opponent snaps on turn six with 20 power showing in each lane. Your theory is spot on, but I think some visual aids will help new players put the two together. Also I’m selfish and just love seeing replays of times you just snatch the win from nowhere. Keep up the good work!

I love your educational videos. I think there are a handful of cards that are interesting enough to justify their own short video. The first that comes to mind is Angela. E.g., Why are Iron Fist, Green Goblin, Nightcrawler so good with Angela. Also, what locations are good for playing out Angela.

Hey Jeff, I was really struggling to get through the 60's range and I got as high as 65 before going back down to 58. I decided to rewatch your video and with your help and my new BREW (non meta Luke Cage build) I was able to get to level 71 in just under a day. Amazing how snapping and retreating better fixed the rut I was in and I got to do it with cards I love to play with too!

Great video as always. One benefit of adapting earlier is you mask the reason you snap. Do you have a strong hand, did the location match your deck well, did your opponent play 3 1drops into your killmonger in hand? If you wait until you've realised your equity your opponent gets to make easier decisions with better information.

Agree to all of this. I actually am on the fence and thinking this might almost go all the way to detracting from the game, as it "means"/implies/comes with the fact that the game has a higher variance, and that ultimately the Snap game actually betting/bluffing, the meta game if you will, slightly more than the card game itself.

I would've loved to see some actual numbers on how much people have won/lost to their own snaps. Theoretically it's a zero-sum game where for every won cube there's a lost cube, but I have a STRONG suspicion that the people who are getting snapped are winning more cubes overall than the people making the snaps. While I'm sure some of the top players manage to make it work for them, making good snaps is very hard comparatively to reacting properly to snaps. One of the more common mistakes I'm seeing a lot (which wasn't mentioned) is people snapping because they hit really well on their draws, but seemingly not considering how the opponent is working the board and what responses they could possibly have.

there is a point to always snap as long as you are below your expected rank to speed up your progression. this effectively almost halfs the games you need to play to get to your expected rank. once you get there this becomes less useful and you should use the methods that are mentioned in the video

I admit im bad about it as i pretty much ignore the snap mechanic entirely when playing and tend to just play the game as a straight up win and lose type traditional TCG. For me i guess i just dont care for the mechanic a ton and just play games out; plus i guess it just seems kinda redundant when basically no one is gonna play the game when they feel they got iffy hands so you just got everyone retreating games since the consequences are minimal just waiting for optimal hands to steamroll someone with and that doesn't seem as fun over playing a full match out to see where it goes. I do tend to lean towards decks that are kinda all arounders so that you can adapt to games over just playing ones where you got a very specific strategy that you know your gonna retreat out of unless you get a good flop on your draws every game you play....i just refuse to play like that; hence i tend to be at lower ranks but personally dont care a ton as its more about the enjoyment than anything if your gonna play something.

Hate when you are trying to play a 6 cost card for a quest and you retreat on 5, opponent retreats on 5 or you don't draw a 6. Because of the way turn 6 costs extra it can take many games for me to get there sometimes!

I guess you have to avoid showing the maths so as not to scare people away but it's useful to know the basic EV calcs for snapping (which anyone who's played poker will be familiar with). If I know I'm guaranteed to win on the last turn I have 1 cube guaranteed, if I don't snap and he doesn't retire I get 1 extra cube, if I do snap and he calls I get 3 extra cubes. This means I only need him to call my snap 33% of the time to be break even which means snapping a lot in the early ranks where people call too much is very profitable.

With the current floors being rank 10 and 100 to add to your statement about bluffing if you see someone with the rank 100 back from the current season when you are still trying to climb, don’t bluff because they have nothing to lose technically and are more likely to call.

Longer session today. Trying to push up the ladder after kind of waffling in mid 50s for a while. Thinking of snapping as bets with equity definitely makes more sense to me. And, I did use snap bluffs a few times when I got my 1/3 draw wrong on a last turn. Hela, why do you evade me???

@patches5

I think bluffing is irrelevant at this point in the games maturity. People probably don’t value cubes enough to make it worthwhile. I would not try to bluff at all until the later released battle mode where you play against the same player a few times and can show them what your advantage states look like to leverage in later games. Also, I think it should be emphasized that retreating after you snap is an option. If I snap before I show my opponent my advantage and it doesn’t play out, it can be correct to bail out rather than throwing more cubes away. Avoid the sunk cost fallacy.
@pinobluevogel6458
@pinobluevogel6458 2 жыл бұрын
There is also a thing that reduces the effect of bluffing: Most players prefer to see the endresult of the game, how it would play out. See if your strategy or decisions come to a satisfying conclusion and directly comparing it to what your opponent did. Even when they know they will probably lose, people still do this. (I know I am myself guilty of this) It is also not completely without value, as you can learn from those losses more, than from a retreat. It is just more costly in cubes to do so. If I could pick one thing that is not as fun in Marvel SNAP, it is that the game encourages you to bail out of it, before the total endresult is known.
@patches5
@patches5 2 жыл бұрын
Bailing out early does make the game more fun. Rather than playing out a game through garbage time where both players know the likely result, you get to move on to the next game which can have more interesting decisions and counter play. Encouraging people to retreat obvious losses means players get to experience more exciting wins where both sides are taking a risk to win.
@pinobluevogel6458
@pinobluevogel6458 2 жыл бұрын
@@patches5 that is a good point, it is certainly preferred over having to play every game till 6 or 7 turns. Sometimes though, on the final turn, a "retreat but see the final results" button would be excellent to have.

@@pinobluevogel6458 I think the "Infinite Floor" significantly increases the number of games that people play out to their conclusions simply because there is no downside. I know I personally lost any concern I had for my cubes once I hit 100. Plus, playing it out helps to learn some of the cards and interactions that you may be less familiar with. I've learned a lot more losing in Infinite than I did climbing there in the first place.
