Hi, pet trainer here. Have you tried placing something on the shelf edge that will fall and create a loud noise? Such as a pan or pot that can survive it. Alternatively, you can put something on the edge that will essentially extend the edge so it overhangs further out, like an awning. This created a sharp 90 degree angle that only absolute maniac cats like bengals will try to jump. It essentially psychs them out because they instinctively feel that can’t maneuver that. This has been really effective for a lot of my dog and cat training clients, especially with prevent them from jumping over fences or trying to scale book shelves. There’s also motion activated alarm pads you can get. You place them on the area you don’t want the animals paws going on and the pressure will set off a harmless alarm that’ll deter them from that area. Usually I recommend this to keep dogs out of litter boxes or garbage bins, or cats out of closets so they don’t try to scale the clothes. Usually the alarms aren’t so loud that they’ll disturb neighbors, making it a better option than the pan, especially if you don’t have a lightweight one that won’t pose potential harm to the kitty in case it falls on them. But your cat would have to be suuuuper danger prone to accomplish that. Or orange.

Here's a few other tips! If you want to keep your cat off a countertop, dresser or a window still, place scotch tape (rolled in half) or double sided tape on the edges of the furniture. When your car jumps up, they will dislike the sticky substance. Likewise with plants. Spider plants are one of my cats favorite snacks, however you can imagine I don't want them eating it! What you could do is grab something called "bitter apple spray" at your local pet store to discourage biting. Bitter apple is safe to be used on plants and surfaces that you don't want your kitty to bite.

If you do try to spray them with water, make sure they can't see you. And also make sure they don't like being sprayed. I tried this on my first cat to great success, but my second cat couldn't have cared less about being wet and continued his exploration of gravity by knocking things down.

The cats that I owned did not like a loud "NO" while in the act. Even tho it came from me they were able to connect raising my voice was a warning that I wanted them to move away from what they were doing. Cats really are smarter than they are given credit for. Also giving them treats for doing something right works. My cat obeys certain verbal commands especially when training him with his favorite treat.
