Those low flow heads look great! I have the traditional pop ups (non low flow) and I reseeded this spring using Barenbrug's RTF and I did get washout. I will need to fix it this fall when it gets cooler in Utah. BTW, thanks for your overview and thoughts on Barenbrug. That seed worked really well! I had gemination in 7 days.

@@pestandlawnginja Seriously, what a fantastic seed!! And my new RTF is doing better in the heat than my areas of my established mixed KBG! The new RTF isn't checked out and going dormant. I seeded on June 3 of this year. Barenbrug is incredible! 🙌

I cant wait for the results!!!!! I used rpr as an overseed reno on my builder basic mystery lawn in the transition zone of California and I've got it dark at 1/2 inch (reel mowing daily). This fall I want to round up the whole thing and seed a pure perennial ryegrass lawn that can handle a height of cut as low as possible sub 1/2 inch with PGR. I wish Barenbrug sold their Extreme Dwarf Rye Grass Seed in the USA ( it's the one Daniel Hibbert uses ). I'm so excited to see how these cultivars you're testing compare.

What would the watering recommendation be for Utah right now? I think I might be over watering.

Hard part about the counties in Utah, usually Oct. 15th is the time the secondary water gets shut off. Is it easier to start the grass killing and seeding more towards mid September or is there a better time to do this in the Spring?
@pestandlawnginja Жыл бұрын
best time to do this process is mid august. although daytime temps are high the soil temps are coming down.

I started seeing a lot of cranberry girdler moths in my lawn this last week along with some damage. What do you recommend applying for them and at when should I apply? Thanks, looking forward to your reseeding experiment results!

You’ll need something both fast acting and a preventive. I would immediately go to your local homedepot or Lowe’s or a garden nursery and ask for a curative and preventive granular. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4PZo3mtmLGJh5Y I’ve listed several products in the description of this video

Yup. The point is to keep it damp but not wet and you do not need any depth to the watering. I like to seed on a Friday or maybe Saturday morning so I have the weekend to monitor. Then I will program my MP rotators to water 3 minutes x2, once in the morning just before dawn, and then once in the late afternoon as the sun is beginning to get around the 45 degree angle so it's beginning to cool off. Then I'll check it around 11am or noon and see how it's doing. If it's still damp, I'll check it again mid-afternoon and if it's good then, I leave the program and only adjust it if the weather takes a turn. If it's dry or near dry at those checks, I'll manually water for 3 minutes and add a 3rd watering to the program

I've rarely seen issues from overwatering in overseeding scenarios. Most people water way too little.

So true
@ashurgeorge4604 Жыл бұрын
While I do agree with you, the things he mentions are worth noting. Mainly you just don't want to have runoff that washes out the seed, but yeah keep that baby wet... as long as you don't live in a super humid place and you use preventatives, you'll most likely be better staying on the wet side as long as you don't turn your lawn into a swamp or miniature scale version of an amazon river system. Soil type plays a role too. But yeah in 99 out of 100 cases home owners don't put down water often enough to get good germination and then they rate the seed low online or give up and buy sod.

i cant wait to see your thoughts on which seed is your pick as i just sprayed out my front and im on the fence about what seed im gonna go with my short list is barenbrug rpr, jonathan green keystone mix as i am in PA or GCI spreader elite my soil test came back pretty good PH is good iron is high im only lacking NPK which is probably the eassiest to fix any thoughts Ginja? ryan knorr elite shade is up there too
@pestandlawnginja Жыл бұрын
I have some fun videos coming up on this. so far i've enjoyed both the knorr and csi / rpr mix for different reasons. you'll be happy with either. as for your high iron, just keep pumping nitrogen based fertilizers with no iron and it'll help.

Keep in mind this guy is talking about watering lawns in Utah. If you are I'm Central IN, for example, you absolutely don't water at night during the warm months because you will get fungus OR you will also have to out down a preventative, and possibly a curative, fungicide. You don't want to seed in the warm months. Best seeding times depend on where you are located and what grass types you are using. In Central IN the best time of the year to seed is the first week of September. Seeding in June, July and August can yield results but run the risk of high water bills, possible pathogen infection, and possible seed dry out.

@@pestandlawnginja That was a compliment. I couldn't do that. I have over seeded in the past with good results but full lawn would be hard for me . I waited a full year for a lawn but it was sod and was instant lawn. Not to say it didn't have its own issues with dropping the HOC
