Stretch wrapping is a packaging technique used throughout the industry to secure items to a pallet for transportation. This technique is especially useful when there are multiple boxes or products to be transported via a pallet. Although stretch wrapping a pallet seems quite straightforward; you could say there is a certain art to this. This blog aims to give you some simple tips to make sure you don’t damage transported products due to unsuccessful stretch wrapping.
The Right Size: The first step is to make sure you have the right size pallet to accommodate the products your wish to wrap. The best size is one that is not larger than the products placed on top as otherwise the plastic may tear on the sharp pallet corners; yet the pallet has to completely cover the base area of the products you want wrapped or otherwise you may have product damage at the end.
Compact Tightly: The products need to be compacted together onto the pallet as closely as possible in order to prevent movement of them after they have been wrapped. Once placed upon the pallet, it can be helpful to create enough space to easily access all sides of the pallet to wrap without difficulty; additionally if you don’t want to be bending down to wrap the base of the pallet you may want to consider elevating the pallet.
Choose the right equipment: There are numerous Revolution Pallet Wrappers that are available for use depending on your specific product and barriers such as time and cost. Manual wrappers are available for the occasional job; whereas stretch wrap machines are suggested when wrapping more than 15 loads per day as they assist in reducing waste and to increase efficiency.
Start pallet wrap with a knot attaching the stretch wrap: Before you start wrapping it is important to securely attach the stretch wrap to the pallet. It is best to stay away from knots which will take time to tear apart later. One option would be to scrunch some plastic into a rope shape and wrap around one corner of the pallet; pulling tightly in order for the plastic to stick to each other.
Wrap from the base: Start wrapping at the base of the pallet; wrapping tightly and repeating a couple of times to ensure that it has a strong hold. Then work your way up from the base; making sure that each layer is tightly joined to the previous one.
Ensure structural integrity: Once you have reached the top; test the wrapped structure to ensure it is sturdy. If this is not the case you may want to consider working your way back down to wrap the structure with an extra layer. Once completed, tear the shrink wrap and fold the end under one of the pallets edges.

I just wrap forward, I can do pallets all day, I just bend at the knees, 3 times at the bottom and up every half a wrap. I don't spend much time low as I get around the pallet in just a couple of seconds anyway. Getting items to help me and using them just adds time and I am nearly 50.

we need these at the aldi's warehouse, working for capstone they expect us to handwrap full pallets top to bottom bending over and trying to fit through very tight spaces, we don't have open floor space to wrap or stage pallets for breakdowns/downstacking maybe at most a foot of space inbetween pallets if your lucky, just enough to fit through sideways if your a slim guy, we usually end up just half wrapping pallets (the top) because nobody wants to try to attempt what was stated above. definately wrapping more than 15 pallets a day aswell, on average we unload 16-30 pallets out of a truck (pinwheeled or double stacked) that usually end up getting downstacked built into new pallets which need wrapped on average building atleast 10 pallets per truck, solo person running atleast 5 trucks a night typically.

Stayed to see if there's any tips or tricks I can take away from this, did learned how the machine wraps the pallets 🤷‍♂️ never took the time to realize that. Tips for others who're watching this and what I learned from my boss from what he was taught, use a broom 🧹, all warehouse should have a broom or 4 laying around. Drop roll of wrap through top to bottom, now wrap. Saves your back, you're wrapping, and now you're sweeping during that first bottom layer lol. Same idea as your tool here.

10 seconds and blood pressure in the head???? You got bigger problems. I got a stomach in my way and I'm 5'11" and I manage just fine buddy. Tip: when wrapping the actual pallet turn the roll sideways so it's more of a thick strand and it'll be thick with just one go around than continue with it straight up and get to the top and once again turn it sideways it'll get great tension and greater grip with less go around
@tartgreenapple

The point being is there are better ways, more ergonomic and less painful on the back. Others suggested a broom can do the same thing.

@@tartgreenapple well sure I can't deny it's better on the back but what his issue was after 10 seconds wasn't his back it was blood pressure remember and yeah his technique is better on the back but while his attention is on the back he's failing to add any tension to that wrap job and most importantly where the pallet meets the product so sure you save yourself from bending all day but what young guy isn't capable of perform the task all day long this isnt a job where we would find this older man with back issues wrapping palets, let's just be honest we wouldnt find any man like him in that position either a man that age with those health issues would have figured his body out by than to move up the corporate ladder or the company would would have recognized his age after that many years with them and accommodated him or else he's a older man who hasn't figured his life and himself out to not be wrapping pallets at that age it's just not realistic but sure preserve the back while you sabotage the security and stability of your wrapping and lose your job
