I did my 50th birthday party at the Vero Beach cottages.... Wow! That was fantastic!!! My Eldest daughter came with her girlfriend, my middle son and middle daughter came with their spouses, and my youngest daughter with her boyfriend. We all had a fantastic time. Our first morning there my eldest daughter and her girlfriend made a fantastic breakfast for everyone and a huge table there was big enough for all the adults. On the evening of my birthday we all had dinner at the restaurant in the main building and that was absolutely incredible. My grandkids absolutely loved the pool and the water slide and the beach. Everyone in the family still talks about it and that was 5 years ago.

We used our 2020 carryover points and this year's points for a lake view at Polynesian for 8 nites and then 13 nites at our home resort of SSR this September /October, providing Canada opens the border with the U. S.

Our family’s biggest Splurge thus far was a 2 bedroom at Kidani when it first opened. Our biggest excitement was Not the animals , it was the THREE bathrooms!!!!! Great Show as Always!!!!

I bought a fully loaded 300 point contract last year. Currently using 747 points for 3 nights in a cabin and 8 in a 2BR at CCV for Christmas and my 50th birthday this year. Can't wait!

My splurge is happening this October. I usually do a studio for 5 nights once or twice a year and this time we are doing 7 nights in a 1 bedroom! It's not a splurge for everyone, but for us it is because we have a small contract. One day the CC cabins will be the splurge after I can get more points but they are selling too fast right now!

It's interesting to see how much your own lifestyle and background affects your idea of a what would be a "worth it" splurge. I live in Maine, not far from the coast, and grew up on a lake here (my parents still live there.) Our family has been renting a cottage on the beach here in Maine for a week each summer since I was little with lots of coastal day trips throughout the summer. It would never even occur to us to use our points at Vero. But knowing how many people don't live anywhere near the coast, I can see how that would be a really wonderful splurge for your family. I think our "someday" splurge would be either four or five nights at the Grand Californian or at Disney World, a Copper Creek Cabin, or Club Level at AKL.

Sean, I agree that Vero Beach cottages are a great splurge, but sadly they don't directly access the beach, but uses the same access as the rest of the resort

I have been a DVC member since 1995, at that time the Plaza Hotel in NYC was available as part of the concierge collection. Living in Jersey, it was a big splurge to see a Broadway show and stay at the plaza.

I only have 150 points so my splurge category is different then some others. However, for me the splurge options id look to do if I could get would be theme park view at blt and club level at akv.

Thank you for putting Copper Creek Cabins on my radar! My mom loves to travel but hotels make her uncomfortable. Me, I'm all about the Disney bubble. This DVC property sounds like it would make both of us happy!

We had the good fortune of being moved (upgraded) to a grand villa at Kidani Village in September, because the grand villa at OKW wasn't back online yet. My only request was that it had a Savannah view. But oh my gosh, 3BR with two fold out couches and 4 full baths. This place could sleep 12, depending on age range. And like Fiasco, I have to go out on the balcony at 2 in the morning, just to see who's around. I tell anyone that stays there, they aren't weird when they check in the middle of the night to see if the animals are around.

Some hilarious exchanges here. Lol. Bay Lake Tower Grand Villa w/theme park view for us. Done it a couple times- and with the piped in music and multi-level fireworks- it is a quintessential Disney experience that literally could never be replicated anywhere else. Highly recommended.

How do renting points work? If I have points but I need, say 200 more points to do a 2 or 3 bedroom somewhere for a splurge, does it add on and can I get any points?

Has anyone bother to check the availability for the bungalows lately? They’re practically sold out all summer - and completely gone for July. I don’t think I’ve seen that ever with the bungalows - people are burning points.
@YamKriegs3 жыл бұрын
It’s mostly because of the soft goods refurb coming up this summer. But can also be people burning points. My friend was able to book one during the 50th this past week for a night, well after the 7 month mark.
@juliamoore62093 жыл бұрын
@@YamKriegs we booked one night for 4th of July at the 7 month mark hoping there will be fireworks...but yes, usually the bungalows are easy to book within 7 months - even one month out. I’ve never seen this before - also, we’re trying to switch to a 2 bedroom in mid October well after the 50th and there aren’t any on property! Only one standard view at Saratoga showed up

Well, for the first time we stayed at the POlynesian. I know, it's under construction. Sad to say but instead of an initial "aloha" greeting. It started with a guy (DVC) complaining at the front desk for about 15 minutes about Disney taking away stuff; and how can they justify the continued cost. Then, no monorail. Again, we knew this going in. The beds were so hard. I couldn't understand why the beds couldn't be updated. My daughter actually woke up with a sore back. Then the second morning, a 5 A.M. Fire alarm drill. For real, me and tons of other guests outside in our pj's. False alarm they said, and blamed in on construction. We were in a DVC building that wasn't under construction. The Polynesian is iconic, beautiful. But, for us I think a once only trip for us.

To clarify, using points for a cruise is still a bad option. Just because they are fun does not mean it makes sense.

Could you please tell me if we rent out our points for cash, will we have to claim that $$ on our taxes?? We sold a contract last year and made about $9500. We now have to declare it as income on this year's taxes. That was a surprise.
@conniedelio3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you have to declare it as rental income.
@choreomaniac3 жыл бұрын
I assume you only have to declare the appreciation as interest, right? And it couldn’t have appreciated that much, has it? If so, that’s a good problem to have because. Means you basically got all your vacations for free these past years.
@philgiles70863 жыл бұрын
From a CPA tax expert friend of mine it was explained that your dues paid offsets the rental income from your points, which has kept usd from ever passing taxes on our rentals.
