I have a question. So when you study, do you just do the mech of action + classification + drug names and that’s it....Or do each drug and it’s specific info and uses etc
@TheDPMJourney3 жыл бұрын
So my thought process when I was studying specific drugs or drug classes was: 1) primary use 2) site of action: tissue or receptor 3) mechanism of action 4) physiological effects in the patient 5) major ADRs if unique or significant 6) anything unique about administration

This is such a small task which may seem like a huge deal for some odd reason (we ask ourselves why we don't always do this), but it makes the difference for sure! Solid tip! Thanks for sharing :)

i have started pharmacology can u advice some videos to watch and a book which is easy and helpful

Hello! We definitely like to watch Speed Pharmacology, because they explain the physiology which is incredibly important and helps to get the material to stick. Some people actually recommend Sketchy Pharm if you feel like you have the time, because it provides a visual aid. If Sketchy Pharm is too long or you find it a bit much, then we suggest Pixorize. These are shorter videos with cleaner images. As for names/groups that you may have trouble remembering, that's where mnemonics come in. We enjoy searching KZbin for mnemonics and honestly, click on anything that looks helpful. BUT for many drugs, Dirty Usmle is the way to go. His account has a plethora of videos dedicated to mnemonics for pharm. We ended up not having time to go through it, but our professors often touted Katzung's pharmacology book as being a helpful textbook.

is all of pharmacology taught in 1st year of medicine?
@TheDPMJourney4 жыл бұрын
Good question! At CSPM pharmacology was taught during our 2nd year! However, for some schools it may vary between first and second year.

I was thinking about memorizing the drugs and all that using like Mnemoics and Suffixs only… would that work well at all or would you recommend those books you were discussing? Also what are some ways that you like to understand a particular topic and how can you improve your explaining skills after learning and understand that topic! Thanks for the video

Mnemonics and suffixes worked best for me memorizing the drugs and pretty much covered what was required for me to do well in my professors class. The books I recommend are for students who prefer to read and learn better that way. In addition, the books have quizzes that can be similar to the way a professor may format their questions. For understanding a topic I just separated things by drug classes and always remembering the key points such as MOA, drug-drug interactions etc for each category.
