When i plateaued again, I started my prolonged fasts. I gradually reintroduced green vegetables, onions, peppers, mushrooms etc. Ended up losing 150lbs in about a year. Listening to people like Dr. Fung really helped me.

@@malintheng9050 I eat mainly meat, eggs, cheese, cream, butter and oils of all kinds, peanuts, cashews, nuts in general, green vegetables like broccoli, green beans, salads, spinach. I use swerve sweetener and full fat cream and unsweetened cocoa powder to make chocolate ice cream. I eat in limited amounts tomatoes and tomato sauces. I eat limited amounts of berries (blue and strawberry mainly). I have learned to make low carb chocolates that are great. Initially, I kept my carb count to no more than 50 or 60 grams per day. Now, I will go up to 100-150 grams per day with no problems. My waistline has been around 31-32 inches for over a year now and my blood work is great. I have effectively cured my diabetes so long as I keep the carbs low. I lift weights about 2 times per week for 10-15 minutes exercising the large muscle groups. I focus on each muscle group one time per week to allow for sufficient rest to recover. I highly recommend strength training like this. It does wonders and compliments the diet. I did not start exercising until I lost most of the excess body fat, about 4 or 5 months after I start the diet. I hope that helps! Good luck.

I was diagnosed with type 2 last February. By following a low-carb, whole food, grain-free diet with daily 16:8 IF I have lost 25 pounds (I have 3-4 pounds to go for my next target weight of 145), and as of August my diabetes has been in remission. I walk 6 days a week, 2-3 miles minimum. I am not doing keto since some fruits and veggies that are beneficial for diabetes aren’t keto, but often incorporate keto recipes into my routine. Glad I have an endocrinologist who was encouraging when I said I wanted to try to control the diabetes with diet and lifestyle changes instead of meds. I was what is considered “skinny fat”, with most of the fat in my middle, which apparently puts you at a high risk for diabetes. I knew that I was overweight, but the diagnosis was a total shock. Thankful that I found Dr. Fung’s books and videos while researching, it helped to put me on the right track!
@donwinston4 жыл бұрын
If you're eating a high fat low carb diet it is unlikely your diabetes is in "remission". Your blood sugar is low because you are not eating any carbs. But your insulin resistance is likely to still be very high if you are eating a lot of fat even if you lose weight. Insulin resistance/diabetes is not caused by eating carbs including sugar. It is caused by eating too much fat. If you are truly cured of diabetes you should be able to eat carbs including sugar like a healthy person can. (I assume you're talking about type 2 diabetes) Also, high fat diets greatly increase your risk of heart disease. They are not healthy.

I do not like taking pills, so I told her I would try and control them by dieting and exercising. I told her to give me one month, and if it hadn't worked I would go on the pills. Three weeks later, I went back to see her; she took my blood and cholesterol test and told me to come back in one week. When I went back for the results, I was shocked - the doctor looked at me and said, "Mr King, I don’t know what you are doing, but whatever it is, continue to do it - we can't see any signs that you’re diabetic and your cholesterol is normal! We don’t need to put you on any medication." To my surprise, she didn’t even ask me what I was doing - but you can! I’m not a vegetarian, but my diet is 99% vegetables and I do fasting regularly!!

WELL said sir! PLEASE keep on, keeping on - all the info' you provide through your web site, the Diet Doctor web site, your podcast interviews, etc. is unfortunately appreciated by far too few, but as you said, people are looking at Keto more & more. Wouldn't it be extraordinary if the health of the world improved due in large part to your hard work? THANK YOU so much!!

Stay away from all commercialized keto products. They keep you addicted to carbohydrate foods. Eat only real foods. I do 16/8 with keto and lost 70 pounds in 18 months. I started at 62. I am now 67. Never to late to start.

Keto and intermittent fasting has improved ALL my health issues including emotional health, cravings, migraines, motion sickness, brain fog, energy, etc... Lipedema and venous insufficiency still present but MUCH better and manageable. I encourage everyone to try it for whatever health issues you have. Then once you get going with this walk 30min in your fasted window and strength train 30min everyday and you will be amazed at how great you feel and how your life changes. I cheer you on. I can not imagine going back to the way i used to eat and all the problems with a high carb diet. I was always hungry and thinking about eating which is not a calm and efficient way to live. Ketosis is amazing at managing food cravings & mood. I will soon be in my 4th year. Intermittent fasting is improving. I keep practicing it to get stronger as I want this to be a lifestyle. I dont rush my fasting, my body is getting accustomed to it. I average about 20hrs a day. One day I would like to do a 36hr once a week. Just not there yet mentally. It will come.

At 51 years old I was 235, had gout, back pain, could barely lift my left arm from arthritis, was prediabetic, headaches, and very high blood pressure. I'm now 55 and have been Intermittent Fasting for the last 4 years. Skip breakfast, 500 cal Lunch, meat and vegetables for dinner. All low carb and now weigh 165, all in 6 months. Weight hasn't change much in 4 years. No medications. My doctor is baffled, I'm not.

I'm WFPB for 5 yrs, lost 25 lbs & then the weight loss stopped. I was overeating 6-8 times a day constantly raising my insulin levels. Been intermittent fasting 19/5 the last 35 days & lost 17 lbs. I'm now @ weight loss goal thanks to Dr. Fung, now just a few more pounds in order to stay a little under so I don't go over goal.

Am WFPB also. Keto and Paleo just dragged me down. I have so much energy now. IF is new to me. Doing the 16/8 for start. Very easy. I just have to stop the snacking now between lunch and dinner, and after dinner, then I think I will see results. Am down 29 lbs, 15 last ones to go. It’s nice not to diet, calculate, or weight any food. I like the sanity of IF.

Dr Adkins wrote is first book in 1972. His ‘induction’ phase was a ketogenic diet and in the book he credits various studies that helped him develop it. He was vilified by most in the medical community and low fat was adopted as a ‘heart-healthy’ diet and pushed on the American public. Dr. Atkins wasn’t overweight when he died of a fall on ice. He certainly deserves a great deal of credit for recognizing the impact of carbs and role of insulin in weight loss.

When I do OMAD (One Meal A Day), I find I can bypass the lunchtime hunger by going for a long walk, typically 5+ miles. I time the walk to occur during the key hunger hours, about 11 AM to 1 PM. After the walk, the hunger is minor.

Thank you Dr. Fund for your informative talks. You keep me going when I want to reach for something I should not. Your story of the gentleman sounds like me (and I am sure many others too). I did intermittent fasting and keto in 2019 and lost 55 lbs. I was able to get off the insulin. Then a stressful 2 months came into my life and I slowly moved back to eating carbs and not fasting. I spent 2020 with little exercise and a modified keto diet with no fasting. I gained 40 pounds back. This month I have recommitted to the keto diet and intermittent fasting and am on my way to a successful year. I look forward to your talks please keep doing them.

Down 56lbs with if and keto since October 1st (230 to 174lbs.) I got blood work before and after , everything has improved , triglycerides are way down and no longer prediabetic. Past low calorie diets always left me fatigued with loss of muscle. I now feel stronger and have more energy all without exercise.

Every day l watch these videos now and l am so happy because l am on the journey now. My doctor suggested putting me on victroza because of my blood tests. A year ago l was told l was pre D and l proceeded to diet but gained weight instead. Now the test taken two weeks ago said l was Type 2 D. She suggested l take A medicine to take down my insulin and curb my appetite but l looked it up and it can make you feel nauseous and throw up. It has also been linked to causing cancer and other things. I do not want that!!!! She did tell me the key words l heard which were insulin resistant and it was those words that led me to find on KZbin Dr. Fung!! Now l see why this occurred because of listening to Dr. .Fung l understand what insulin what insulin resistant means and l am on day three of fasting .

@AzaleaBee2 жыл бұрын
For me, the nicotine cravings were more intense. But the hunger waves had an added level of anxiety because mentally you have to work out how to eat... and how to eat without undoing or going back to how you were. Hope you are doing well.
