Ariat has been my go-to boot for the last 20 years. The caveat for how long any brand of boot lasts is how often you apply some sort of conditioner. Most of my boots last 2-3 years here on the Honey Do Ranch, we raise cattle and horses, and I am in them all day from early spring to first snowfall.

Yeah I would suggest conditioning twice a year if I had a KZbin channel I could show people what happens when you don't condition them but honestly even with the very soft worn and cracked leather only two small holes in one boot and one is more like a small slit than a little smaller than a dime size hole still impressive for almost 8 years old boots double h oak ice Dylan work boots and I'll probably replace them with the same thing except steel toe

I hope you know that you can have boots resoled and reheeled when you wear a hole i the sole or walk too much off the heel. Moreover they wear out faster if they don't fit properly. Lastly you need to oil your boots about once a week to increase longevity, including the sole. I have family who have had the same western boots with leather soles for 2-3 years. When you buy cowboy boots you get what you pay for. Good boots are about $200 and excellent boots that last a long time are $450. I have a lot of experience wearing boots and am very hard on them. I have worn out tony llamas and Justins in three months oiling the twice a week. Cheap boots like laredo and such i wear out in a month. Hope this is helpful!

I remember the time that a few guys wore rubber soled boots when we were burning the stubble. As soon as we started beating the fire back and the ground was thick with glowing embers, the rubber started melting and catching alight. With embers underfoot, they ended up trying to rub the burning rubber out against the legs of their jeans. It was so funny to watch.

@@ttice5068 , Not all boots can be resoled. Many of the cheaper ones are glued. Not welted but, if other parts of the boots are breaking down as well, there is no sense in having it resoled. That’s why you should pay attention and buy good quality boots.

Like others have said, Double H with the ice sole cannot be beaten. The ice sole is far and away the best wearing sole money can buy. The boots are well worth the asking price (often on sale) and American made with full grain leathers. Both the folklore and bison leathers are very nice and very durable.

Here on a ranch in Central Texas, I've learned that lace ups are what works. Rocky Hill country, getting in and out of the tractor, fencing, clearing brush etc. Without laces, your not going to get the ankle support. When the weather is wet, I keep a set of Muck Cool Chores on hand. All of my other pull style boots are for when I head into town or errands etc.

I’ve lived on a ranch for my entire life, I always had 2 boots on hand, I had my cowboy boots with the nice leather outsole to do ‘cowboy stuff’ which I really didnt do because it just wasn’t my thing, I was always a maintenance type guy, I liked making stuff and fixing tractors so I had a nice pair of lace up boots with a big tread on the sole and water proof lining with insulation for the cold. I prefer wearing lace ups for ranch work instead of my cowboy boots just because they last longer and it doesn’t matter if the tread starts to wear out

@somethingsomethingusername802 3 жыл бұрын
@@average2savage1 Late reply but I personally like the Danner Fort Lewis model of boot. 200G Insulated, Goretex, Full Grain Leather, etc. Great for when the weather takes a turn. Bit pricey but these boots will likely last me half a lifetime, at least. Danner also offers "recrafting" services like leather care or restitching. Haven't had to do any of that yet but it's nice to have it on the back burner just in case. When it comes to general work in the Cold or Wet, those are my go to. If I'm doing something where insulation isn't necessary, or my toes might get smooshed, the Ariat Workhogs are on standby with a composite toe. Got three pairs for different jobs. Danners for Cold/Wet work, Ariats for more 3 Season chores, and a pair of Ranch Road Capistrano's for riding and everything in between. Lot of times there's crossover and/or I just don't feel like swapping boots. Just depends on what I'm doing, and when I'm doing it.

Nice video - our family owns a small horse farm on a river - raised/raising our 3 kids (ages 16, 18 and 19) there...the Muck riding boots are great. We've had good luck with Rocky over the years. I have a pair of Filson Uplander boots - had them for about 15 years, great for out in the woods on the property. We wear traditional leather sole boots for riding usually. The Filson brand is not what it was 20-30 years ago, but you may want to give their boots a try (I use their oil to treat mine often)...I must say their Tin Cloth and Mackinaw wool coats/vests are terrific for around the farm too ( I'm guessing their warranty is still Lifetime).

Usa made redwings will outlast all of those mentioned, if you're happy with the fit. Been in mostly construction for 25 yrs. In everything from lawn work, roofing, concrete work, carpentry framing, freight docks, engine repair, electrical industry, and communications lineman. Have always paid attention to which boots held up and which one didn't. Above a RW or Thorogood, you'll have to go custom. Which is a huge step in quality above anything in the $250 quality range. Grew up on a cattle and sheep ranch (25000 acres) and all of the old cowboys wore leather soles boots. We had them re-soled every 6-8 months. Keep you your boots oiled, polished and resole them when needed. Keep at least 3 pair of work boots and rotate them daily to let them dry out, especially if you get them soaking wet. I always set my boots in a hangar upside down over a floor vent, they never smell, the uppers last 10-12 years and sometimes longer.

How did you end up with so many acres? Whats the strategy? I want to be a farmer
@bret9741
@bret9741 3 жыл бұрын
@@jerrycannon6940 well, my grandfather was born in 1889. He accumulated it over the years by buying out other ranchers who started with 1 section (640 acres). Then my dad bought the rest from the 60’s. That’s a medium size ranch for that time. The Cohope (spelling) ranch that was all around us was 1200 sections divided among 2 siblings. Today, to truly make a good living, you would need at least 15,000 acres and truthfully, that would need to be debt free. Ranching has changed because of changing demand for products and environmentalist have made it difficult to control varmints that kill off lambs and calves. We made most of our yearly income off of sheep. That’s not really possible today.

I’ve worn about every boot under the sun trying to find the best one, I can.confidently say that Keen and Double H are the best, Keen are more oriented to factory or logging work, but Double H are also good for factory work, but if you are a logger, they won’t give you the grip that Keens would while working a hillside. But that also means they fit into a stirrup easily, get the right one for the job.

I know I am hard on my boots. I work at a factory and I am on my feet for 12 hours a day. I also work as a farm hand on my weekends. I wear western boots just for riding and for a night out of town. For my work boots, working at the plant and doing work around the farm I decided to pony up and buy a pair of Nicks boots. They are expensive and worth every penny. They can be a bear to break in. But they are tough they'll hold up to anything. I also have a pair of muck boots. But for boot care I clean them once a week. I brush and rinse off the mud. Then I clean them with saddle soap. When they dry I use obenauff's to oil them them up. Since my boots are exposed to solvents, grease and ink at the plant once a month I'll treat them with mink oil. A bit of advice a little bit of mink oil goes a long way. Take care of your feet because your feet make you money. I was always told invest in a good bed and invest in good boots if you are not in one you are in the other.

I've spent anywhere from 50-500 on a pair of boots (owned all sorts) and none of them seem to last more than a couple years, of every day wear, at most. I'm apparently tough on footwear too but have found that ShoeGoo on the seams and around the sides, toe, and heal will really extend the life. I also dont use the straight Mink Oil anymore... just doesn't last long enough IMO, i've had much better results from Obenauf's. Rocky has a huge range of boots - some good, some OK, some down-right crap. Danner is another brand to look at if you dont mind lace-ups. I've used Muck boots a lot in pretty much every environment/condition to -40 to 100+ - super wet & humid to frozen to bone-dry. Muck makes good boots... just be sure to get the proper model as they make several different styles. There's some competitors to Muck that make excellent boots also. For the money, despite my good luck with Muck, i'm inclined to try Bog boots when my current pairs wear out.

You can resole boots even if the welt is cracked. All it is a strip of rubber or leather sewn to the upper that holds the sole in place. Might cost abit but it’s 100 percent possible

How do the Rocky boots fit size wise I normally wear a 13w unless the boots already are wide I’ll get a regular 13 ? Also should I get a half or whole size down so they don’t slip ? Because I know the leather breaks in And kind stretches ?

I live in the Pacific Northwest, rains a lot from fall to spring. Try using Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP on your boots. Fire fighters and loggers had the same problems. Unlike the waterproofing oils etc it does not rot the stitching and waterproofs like a dream. They want their $400.00 or $500.00 Danner's lasting more than one season.

Excellent review. I prefer a lace up leather work boot for the ranch so I've been wearing Justin's for over 30 years . For me at least, they seem to hold up well. Does Rocky make a lace-up western work boot? Well, I see you have a link, I'll take a look. For rubber Muck type boots I wear original Lacrosse boots that go up to the knee. My wife prefers Bogg's Mossy Oak, which are similar to Muck. She say's the Muck's fit too tight around sides of her foot. During the winter months, Muck type boots are a must around our horses and the ranch.

Thanks for such an informative video. I would like your advice. My son (14) is going to be on a ranch this summer in Wyoming. They'll be riding a good part of the day as well as working. Would you recommend a dedicated western riding boot for him or do you think a hybrid will work like the Rocky's you recommend? Especially if his riding experience is limited. Thanks much!

Get yourself a pair of White's Smokejumpers. They are expensive $500+ but..... Brush them at least once a week and use Obenhauf's on them every 6 months and they will last many, many years. You may need to resole them once in a while, but the uppers and leather will last a good 5 years unless you just flat out don't take care of them or abuse them in odd ways like walking through a stream and then putting them by a heat source to dry them. That's will destroy any leather.

Double H with ICE sole is far and away the best boot for the job. The ice sole is far and away the best wearing sole you can possibly own. The boots are also American made with full grain leather. Bison or folklore leather is very durable and lasts a very long time. You would not be disappointed.

If you don't care for your boots it doesn't matter what brand they are. When you buy cheap boots you toss them after a few months, your feet are worth it wear a good boot, you get what you pay for. I wear Dunlop boots for winter and they are good for -40 and still fine in the mud and manure and will out last any muck boots. I wear red wings when I'm pulling wrenches an welding. I ride, go to church and town all in Ariat boots and I have bought them for 20years and if you take care of them they will last 3 years and that is riding a working big days in them. Clean your boots with dawn dish soap and then condition them with any good leather conditioners

Unlike most boots that do not have a leather sole, Georgia boots can be worn when burning stubble and stomping small grassfires out without wrecking the soles. Both my boyfriend and I wear them and they have lasted for years. I am not sure whether all of their boots have the corded nylon compound fire resistant soles. Have you worn yours around small fires without wrecking the soles.?
