I think maybe the wing scars are from the show Lucifer when he’d cut his wings off. They do look pretty similar and it’s what I immediately thought of. Though it does look pretty fresh like a wound the scab came off of too early but maybe it’ll look better when healed.

I think the scars of the wings may be from the book series A Court of Thorns and Roses. One of the main characters has his wings torn from him. The series has quite a following.

Yeah, that's supposed to be where someone got their wings cut off and those are the leftover scars. I get it and saw what it was supposed to be, but.............the size is stupid. Just stupid. The wings that would come out of those spots wouldn't have been big enough to do anything but make her stumble like a drunk if she tried to use them. People always forget how big wings actually have to be to make a 150lb human soar through the air. But I'm weird like that, I'm sure no one else would notice.

Wings are connected to a birds body with a small connection point. Wings are not like fins or flippers where a large surface area connects to the body.

That giant back piece is AMAZING! Absolutely gorgeous, great composition, use of colors, execution, etc. I 100% agree that this one should have been number 1 on the good tattoo list. Also agree with Pony that “toasted grandma” deserves the number 1 spot for worst tattoos. Did the person getting the tattoo never look down while getting this done and not notice/not say anything to the tattoo “artist” that poor Grandma wasn’t looking right???? 😂

Regarding the “burn scars”, those are torn flesh wounds from wing removal. There are several characters be it written word, graphic stories, or videography that have ripped their wings off [less commonly having their wings taken from them]. They may be an angel of light or a dark angel, sometimes a creature like Maleficent. Usually being an act of self sacrifice, they typically bleed, may self-suture/get back-alley suturing. The fallen angels are left with terrible scarring at what would be the anatomical joint/attachment to the shoulder blades, not an entire wing. Initially the scarring is a bit raw, but if there is a long term character arc you may see them fading to a textured white. Entirely in line with true healing, so her choice of tattoo art is representative of fresh wing loss and a realistic wound. Maybe symbolizing removing them herself for the benefit of another, a fall from grace, or even a dark angel removing their wings to follow their own a positive journey? Who knows what it means to her, but the imagery is very distinct and was instantly recognizable to me. Personally, after 14 surgeries and a small are of 3rd degree burn [on my fave, of course], and suturing here and there, I have enough scarring! My tattoos are different in style. I do have some similar themes, just totally different imagery. That’s the beauty of art, each person finds beauty in something different! With tattooing as our medium, our bodies become an entirely custom collection of art made just for us, no 2 humans exactly the same! Amazing really! Big love!

Well shaded Grandma reminds me of a Facebook post a few years back in the local area community group.
