I started my drumming journey a couple of months ago, and I have to say that M Brown is the most genuine individual and teacher I came across on KZbin and by far my favorite of them all. He definitely made a huge difference in how I approach my kit and how I spend my time practicing. Huge thank you from a fan.

i learned this when i went to a music academy for both tripplets and straights, we started the group practice with this before getting into the actual lesson and there was a seriously noticable difference for everybody when comparing from when we started to when we graduated. this is an insanely helpfull lesson

Thanks for another great lesson! You are absolutely right that doing pad work away from the kit is really valuable. This makes for an efficient use of time, by working on technique when we would otherwise be sitting passively watching videos.

done this exercise for 4 10-minute sessions through today, and after I got on the kit my hands felt more relaxed than they usually used to be, even for rimshots on 2 and 4 which I play instantly. Thanks again Mr Brown for great lesson, I feel motivated to do this for several weeks and see what happens :)

I am just starting out on an e-kit and I do this for my own enjoyment - probably never will perform, but your vids are SO helpful! Really appreciate you. I just got a practice pad this weekend (because you said I had to) and it's great for those moments when I'm in a business meeting (remote - relax!) on mute while the big-wigs talk. Had to laugh when you suggested doing this during the sermon! My left hand is like a toddler learning to stand up compared to my right (it's barely learned to walk straight, mind you), but trying to accent the second (or third) beat of the triplet is CRAZY hard - plus I lose track of the count. But I'm working at it and your videos help tons. I WILL buy some 'merch' to support you. Keep it up.

Love your stuff! As I hobbyist (side hustle/basic cover band drummer,) so much of your teachings have helped me! One example is Toto “Hold The Line.” Many of your previous videos on developing better singles and doubles, gave me confidence to mimic those fills for that song! Of course I’m also trying to get 1/10th of what Jeff Porcaro is doing!😂😂

Killer exercise indeed. Especially playing it in unison: feels almost a bit dull at the very beginning, but is much harder to keep up with as it seems, especially at higher tempo. But the effect when playing the kit is huge. Just make sure to keep it really easy in the beginning and not go to hard and fast, especially on the pad. But that's the key to everything isn't it ;-)

Hey rob, have a question for you and a concern for myself. I’ve been playing drums for about 15 years or so now. I play in a “successful” touring band and I am fairly adequate at playing. The problem is I don’t know what I’m doing and I KNOW I have bad technique from being self taught and basically learning to play by just playing if that makes sense. I’ve never fully learned rudiments. My question is where do I start or how do I start practicing at this level of drumming? I really want to have good technique to prevent injury and to just get better. I feel like I’m reaching a plateau. Thanks rob!

Hey beatdown! Not sure if you look at these but had a quick question. I'm just starting to learn new sticking's and was wondering the reason for sticking's. If I look at a R L L R sticking, can i infer that the left side of the drum I will do R L and on the right side of the kit I will do a L R? Prob a dumb question, but wanted to ask. Love your vids man!

Any new sticking will serve you several ways. As a repetitive exercise to develop a particular mechanic, a pad warmup, or way to expand your vocabulary by distributing the sticking around the kit for new fills, grooves or phrasings.
