I can't carry those 10 EDC essentials even if I want to, it's just that I don't use all of that, feels like overpacking lol. My EDC is funny because its a molle pouch attached to my belt with some buckles. Its like a small ifak pouch that can easily be unattached. It holds band aids, alcohol swabs, wallet, Olight mini, pen, all-weather notebook, some chord, powerbank and charger. The reason why its a belt is because I have a bad habit of leaving things in my pockets and destroying them when doing laundry. I change pants almost every day, but I always use the same belt.

If you do a lot of work on the go I'd also suggest a portable surge protector. The last thing you need is to have a piece of gear get "zapped" by a power surge when plugging in at coffee shops or other random places. It's probably not all that likely to happen but as someone who once had a laptop component get fried by a power surge I'd HIGHLY recommend it.

Solid video! Beauty of EDC is while there is commonly accepted ideas, many people cater to their own lives. My biggest disagreement is the battery pack. Having a solid battery pack in your EDC backpack is truly a must in my opinion. I carry a couple USB A and C bricks and cords for multiple devices (for me and others) and it takes up a fraction of the space in one of my two interior mesh pocket. I’d argue it takes up less space than your plug in extension/multi charging cable and long cord setup. This isn’t me throwing any disrespect but the beauty of a battery pack is there’s no need for outlets and any hikes, emergencies or daily use comes with knowing you’ll always have your lifeline open to you because you can charge it right from your pack. Not to mention the mobile side of it. No need to stay stationary and be stuck in place waiting for a charge. Whereas deciding not to carry a battery pack and instead a charging cable, it assumes you’ll have access to a charging location.

I was watching a prep video one time and this guy really shed light on the use of good, old fashion white cotten handkerchiefs. He had washed a new banana in with his wife's clothes and ruined them. She obviously freaked. So the light bulb went off in his head about using these things to prefilter water. This has to be one of the biggest DAH issues in the entire prepping community. Going even beyond chemical dyes in average soaps, laundry detergants and fabric softeners. I mean Tide Pods, hello. So to think of going to the effort to save a water filter or better purify water by dumping in dyes and detergants is laughable really. Not to mention the effect on the actual filter 😅. An one more thing is to advise people that a Smaug or Bandana can be used as a wound dressing is pretty scary as well. In the world wars they would shred up white cotten or linnen bedsheets and the dyes back then were far more natural then the chemicals and fabric treatments another thing, or crap we use as sun blockers, or the big one bug sprays, DEET, Permethrian, etc...that get on everything we come in contact with .... SMH. Can you imagine using a banana you had around your neck, or a smaug over your head, or part of a shirt now to prefilter 😆 drinking water ? And no one talkes about it .... I mean...?????

I carry a 'hybrid' bag to work every day and live/work in an urban environment. Besides my work laptop and thermo-isolated coffee mug (which can also carry water if needed), I have my video camera kit (cam, mic, SD card) with me. In my bag I also carry an EDC that comes out on a daily base. What i've noticed is that a lot of things are nice to carry for that 'occasional' need (multitool, knipex, FAK, charger), but actually slimmed it down to true EDC stuff. For those that work at the office but want to have a small EDC to 'extend' your stay if there's a blackout etc., here's what I carry: - Amazon Tactical Fanny Pack, basicly a small MFAK - Victorinox pocket knife with scissors, knife, cork screw, tweezers and toothpick - Veektomx 10kmah powerbank (small/light) with cable for phone and camera - small bandaids - pain killers for headaches or muscle sores - Citrosan (combination of concentrated vitamine C and paracetamol) - Single use hand warmer sachets - Small sewing kit with scissors, thread and most importantly: needles - Carabiner There's loads and loads of room left, but I don't feel the need for anything extra rather than maybe a pocketwrench. If you have a complete backpack, swap out the 10kmah powerbank for a Jackery 100. It's small, relatively light and chargers both laptops and phones.

I've always thought it was stupid but I do carry a spare wallet in my EDC for all those stupid membership cards that everyone hands out for those membership points and discounts. There are too many of them to stick in your main wallet but, the moment you leave them home is the moment you end up in the grocery/ gas station/ restaurant/ convenience store that's handing out those points and giving out those discounts. I also do the sling in backpack thing because I have a lot of stuff in my BP that I don't really need to bring with me for a grab-and-dash, so I just grab the sling leave the pack in the car. I don't game but I do watch videos and listen to music so I bring a tablet instead of a console. I also bring headphones or earbuds so others don't have to hear what I'm listening to. I usually have a reusable grocery bag for emergency shopping. I also like bringing a compact camera, even though the one on my phone gets used most often. Just old school. And even though I don't smoke, I have an arc lighter on me always. Very practical for burning off those stray threads.

A chemlight or Whats it called a lightstick. Something for that purpose of signaling and you just don’t want to toss your flashlight on the ground. And some paracord you can’t go wrong with some rope, just an extra shoelace or something like that. You don’t need to go all bug out . Other than that I think you have a great setup for walking around the office and home. I have a Wera tool check plus for a toolkit and it works great for 90% a small first aid kit and some way of changing in my back pack and I really appreciate having space in the pack for what ever I’m doing that day, like going to the park I need a water bottle and a jacket. I’m going down town I might need to bring a shopping bag or two. Going to the beach toss in a swim trunks and a towel. So by reducing what I carry in my “EDC” backpack I can actually carry more. If that makes sense. I just have to be careful not to feel the need to fill it up with stuff I might need. For that I have a different bag.

The pack in this video is awesome! That internal tray system is genius! I think we have a similar approach to separation of items. I have a system I call OWN EDC. ON ME; WITH ME; NEAR ME. On me: in my pockets or attached to me. With me: a sling/pouch that is always within reach. Near me: a bag with larger items that I want to always have available. I often leave this in my vehicle because I am able to have it close by 95% of the time. (*I'm not talking about a GHB that is designed to be packed and left alone ready to go) Which category each of my EDC items falls into depends on what I am doing each day. The items don't change much, just how I carry them.

Same philosophy with regular luggage when you travel or go on vacation. You don’t fill it to capacity when to leave home, just what you need due a couple changes which leaves you room to buy more if needed or space to put your souvenirs. Some people just throw away old clothes on vacation also which again leaves you room in the luggage due other things if needed.

11:15 - does anyone else struggle with their Field Notes getting destroyed when carried in leather covers like this? Are we not supposed to tuck both the cover and back page under the leather? Whenever I do, the notebook lasts a couple months at best before the beautiful cover falls off, it gets warped before that from opening & closing. I had to switch to the orange rainproof ones just so it wouldn't fall apart. I've got half dozen of these filled out but with cover broken off, some covered in tape to hold them together :/

I could benefit from listing reasons you've needed some of these items. If you pack things you think are needed, do you have real world experience why they benefited you. That would help the listener when choosing items for their packs. Ex: multi-tools are cool but why have a multi-tool? Mechanics have socket sets for bolts on vehicles. That makes sense. If we're assembling bags to put what ifs in then ok pack the kitchen sink. If we pack purpose driven items that we know why we're packing them and are able to use them, that's a better video in my opinion.

Instead of a hank I carry a pack towel. A bunch of companies make them, lots of different sizes and they work better than a hank for absorbing things.

As an honorable mention, instead of carrying a handheld game console, I like to carry a deck of playing cards. My kids and I like to play cards, especially at restaurants while waiting for our food. But like your game device, I think a type of entertainment should be in a person's backpack, either a game device, board/card game, a book for reading or puzzles (crossword, word search, etc.) With notebook, maybe emergency contact info in case if your phone dies and can't memorize every number.
