This is how great Big I Design is. I backed them a few times on Kickstarter. At one time, I backed so many campaigns, I lost track of what I received and didn’t. A year later I’m going through all these past campaigns and I realize I didn’t get one of their pens I backed. Thinking I’m out $50, or whatever it was, I still emailed them and explained. I wasn’t expecting anything due to the time frame and fact that I’m just now realizing this. But nope, they sent me the pen. No questions asked. They already had a customer for life due to their products and KS experiences alone. Couple that with what they did for me, well, I can’t do much more than praise them and support them when I can. And that’s what I do. Great company and people.

For what it is worth, the quarter is an actual U.S. minted quarter which has been machined. These coins have existed in the magic community for sometime, probably approaching a century. It takes two quarters to make the product shown. One is "hollowed out" to make what is termed a "shell" and then the other is cut down to fit into the shell and recessed in order to hold something inside. That is referred to as the "insert". The ring is commonly called a "bang ring" for obvious reasons. There are many magic effects which rely on this exact or similar machining. Some of it can get really specialized and even involve rare earth magnets, etc. It is a field unto itself. And yes, the same type of coin has been used in the espionage business. Back when silver dollars were still in circulation you could squeeze something quite large inside.

The hollow quarter might be interesting in combination with one of those keychains that hold your Aldi quarter. Not sure what you'd put inside, you might be able to file some of the plastic off the back of a Micro SD card - remove the little nail notch tab and maybe it'd fit. You could also probably use it for your cart at Aldi, since you get it back.

Why would you need a keychain to carry a quarter? Just put it in your pocket. The big set of keys is way more difficult to handle.

@@bloodleader5 If you're familiar with Aldi, they have a thing where you have to insert a quarter to get a cart, and you get it back when you return it, so they don't have to pay someone to retrieve carts. Ooh. The coin is pretty nifty. Seen them throughout the decades, but i'm thinking "fit a microsd card" is _the_ point this era. If you're a photographer or investigative journalist at a time and place where information is dangerous (in many places around the world, it is), then being able to hide your data is critical. Especially if you're a foreign journalist or known associate of foreign media. Whenever you're on the move or not capturing info/data/photos, swap the "real" card into the coin, and put one with some (local!) scenery, social, culture photos and junk data on it back in your phone/camera. A bit torn on whether to go with a local denomination or a common foreign one. On the one hand, a local coin won't stand out if you're searched, but on the other hand, if the detaining authority is very corrupt, or you get mugged, they're far more likely to "pocket" a local coin than a foreign one. Make sure the decoy card isn't completely empty though, and that the file creation date and EXIF data of pictures on there, along with the actual photographed subjects and surroundings, do not look suspicious. Snap "unproblematic" photos whenever you're in the field so the content and EXIF data appears legit, then modify file creation date and EXIF data to line up with either the current day, or the phone's/camera's fallback default (the date a factory reset defaults to - either midnight 01.01.1970 for computer files, or 01.01.00 (2000) for most modern phones and cameras). If the time stamp clock is off or its at the fallback default, that's passable. But if you've been spotted taking pics, and the card is completely empty, all the pics on it are dated several days/weeks/months back, no pictures of anything local, they are fully stripped of EXIF data, or the EXIF says they were taken with a completely different device than what you have on you - those are all red flags which will *_best_*_ case scenario_ cause you to lose your gear, be extensively interrogated, and if you're a foreigner; immediately deported. So FFS, don't just focus on hiding your "real" card - remember that this decoy card is your alibi. Make sure what's on there, appears legit and backs up your story.
