I am originally from Hawaii, moved to New Zealand in 2002, to Christchurch on the South Island. It was 2 of the most interesting years of my life! Something about Kiwi’s.. they are all ready for a party, and they will all be there drinks in hand and smiles all around. They will bring the grandparents, the kids, the dogs. People from New Zealand are true grit. I look forward to returning one day.

I live in Oregon but if I could move to New Zealand or Tasmania, I would so do that because I'm so facinated with the ecosystem and vast wilderness to explore, as well as a society that cherishes and treats it's nature well as well as it's citizens. Man I'd love to explore anywhere less explored in these parts of the world
@freddyb8955 Жыл бұрын
Don’t kid yourself. Nature isn’t cherished here any more than anywhere else. Every time it rains, our local beaches get shut by the council because of sewage. The shellfish is toxic. Rivers are polluted because of farm effluents. Developers run rampant and build huge ghettos to maximise their profits. Hardly any regulation when it comes to building and NZ is obsessed with high density living in cities resulting in horrible developments where people live on top of each other. There are no recycling facilities and all our recycled stuff is shipped to China by boat. Talk about environmentally friendly. It’s all a marketing farce.

@@freddyb8955Actually, I agree with everything you’ve said, except for the point about housing being “on-top” of each other, high density doesn’t necessarily equate to a low quality of life, people don’t have to live in paleo-conservative societies where every other home is at least a mile apart for said people to have a high quality of life… New Zealand’s problem is the same one nearly every where else is having, incentivizing capitalistic exploitation of it’s environment for the profit motive, only now realizing what they’d loss (and not to mention stolen from the Moāri) until it’s to late, and that exploitation doesn’t have to always line up with higher density and societies built around cities. But beyond that small nitpick I had you where right overall.

@@MohimanRWrong! Maori are not indigenous to New Zealand. Maori came here in around 1300 from Eastern Polynesia. Before then, New Zealand was only inhabited by birds and lizards and the only indigenous land-living mammal was a small cave bat. But because Maori came to New Zealand before the Europeans, they are recognised and respected as our tangata whenua (those who came first). The moriori came to the Chatham Islands in around 1500. There is no archaeological evidence that the Moriori ever settled on mainland New Zealand. The Moriori were either killed by Maori raiding parties in the Chathams and other Moriori were taken back to the mainland as slaves. They eventually integrated with Maori. The last known full-blooded Moriori, Tommy Solomon, died in the 1930's.

The native population of Māori is by all means not integrated in the common life of the country. How could it be, that the native population, much decimated by the immigration of the British, today mainly works in cleaning and handyman jobs? Where is the social justice? Do not be mistaken about this county…looks nice from the outside but inside has huge problems.
