Can I just confess my insecurities for a sec? I just need to get it out without somebody telling me to shut up for once. I don't like my undefined Asian nose, my thin dark brown hair, my non glass skin, how skinny I am, my nose blackheads, and my small eyes. I think after typing out this long list of things I don't like about myself, I noticed how small these things are. I just wish I didn't have to feel like I needed to prove the rest of the world that I was worthy by being beautiful. I don't need to prove anything to anyone, but I constantly pressure myself to think that I do. Now, i'm realizing that I am beautiful. Not by the world's standards, but beautiful in a way that i'm starting to start to love myself.

@@bconni2 I don't think beauty standards are universal? Asians and western beauty standards are so different and they keep evolving too. And idk about political but yeah they are capitalist. Like of course they are. These companies thrive on people's insecurities to make money. And the part about 'rationalizing the fact that you're probably not good looking' like bruh how do you know? No one is born 'ugly' . Op said they are feeling confident in themself. It has nothing to do with if they are this made up standard of 'good looking person'.

@@bconni2 Like Ashley said in that video, simple stuff like an instagram filter, can make someone feel bad about their appearence. I mean, making a filter that basically makes someone more white. You also gotta understand what your body is trying to communicate to you through these skin issues. Our bodies are electromagnetic information fields that demonstrate the issues we are facing in our lives by transmitting information. This information will then show up in our physical body as errors like dis-ease, skin issues, etc. Really what I'm trying to say is to pay attention to what your body is trying to tell you, and don't ignore the signs it's trying so hard to communicate 💚

it's hard for me bc where i live NO one gets acne. like, not even a pimple. everyone has glass perfect skin, and they don't even wear makeup. plus, you can't cover up pimples + acne with foundation, its very obvious underneath. to make it worse, i'm indian, so ALL my relatives and family friends have absolutely perfect skin, and they always stare at me lol. plus, its true everyone gets pimples, but it feels a lot different to "get a pimple" than to have actual, heavy acne.

“I didn’t realize that all the things I hated the most about my face were the things that were most asian” I felt this in my core. I just realized this last year. I’m Hispanic, though I often get confused for Asian, especially when I moved to NC from NM where pretty much everyone is Hispanic. I realized it differently though. One day, as I was thinking about the features on a face that I found to be most beautiful, I realized that it was a white face. Rounded eyes, pale skin that turned pink in cold weather, smooth hair (I have curly hair) and the two things you listed: a pointed noise and strong cheekbones. THESE ARE PRIMARILY WHITE FEATURES. Of course I could never be happy with my face. I wanted to achieve something that I could never have. I was so mad at myself for this internalized idea of beauty and surprised that somehow, though I have found so much beauty in a variety of skin tones all my life, it was still ingrained in me that white features were the epitome.

Ashley, I want to say thank you. I recently "found" your account, and as a 15 year old with a craniofacial disorder, this video was very uplifting. For years I've hated myself, I listened to what others said about my odd facial features. Convinced myself that I wasn't worthy of confidence. So thank you for defying the social standards, because nobody should feel like a freak for how they look. :)

I'm white. When I was super little, maybe four, I saw an asian girl walking on the street with her parents. I thought she had the most beautiful eyes and I wished mine looked like hers. It kinda shocked me when I later saw a couple other kids pull their eyelids back and laugh as they did the "chinese eyes". Later on I'd look back and realise that stuff like this is subjective; beauty standards are pretty pointless. People will literally feel "better" and "prettier" if they only wear powder and lip tints because "they don't need to wear too much makeup to be pretty". People will bring you down if you wear makeup and it's crazy how different cultures can be.

@@Maria-vt7yf Let me tell you, sis, they don't notice things. Don't feel insecure. I once felt really embarrassed about my eyebrows because I hadn't plucked them and thought they'd be like massive furry caterpillars, but when I brought it up to my bf at the time, he took another look at them and said he didn't notice anything and they looked fine. There were many times I wanted to cancel a date because something wasn't perfect, like I didn't have FRESHLY washed hair, or my nails weren't done, or I wasn't completely smoothly hairless. Real talk, no bf has even noticed much less cared. You're good. To guys, you probably look great. Just keep that smile in place and they'll never see anything else. :)

The part where you talked about not wanting to not be able to recognise yourself in the mirror really resonated with me. I have all these insecurities about my self, especially my face, but I've always wanted to be me? I would never want to wake up looking entirely like someone else's face.

Ikr? I have this super weird disconnect with just my entire physical being, as pretentious as that may sound. Like, whenever I think of myself, I certainly don't think of the person I see in the mirror. It just doesn't feel like me and that's not even accompanied by great dissatisfaction with what I am seeing or anything it's just... No. That's not *me*.

Anyone remembers the Phineas and Ferb episode in wich Candace wanted to become a model for a big beauty company because she admired the models of the company and stuff and then asked the owner of the company if she could become one but wasn't chosen because she didn't had the perfect height or something, but then later in the episode when Candace turned into a giant and unintentionally met the owner again she was told that now she was perfect for the job because the beauty ideal she would project would be unreachable for everyone else and because of that all the girls would continue to buy the companys products, hoping to look like her one day and reach für "ideal". The same thing is happening right now in the beauty industry, so we really need to stop comparing ourselves. Everyone is beautiful in their own unique way❤
