🥒 ABOUT BEFRS:
Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but currently call Vietnam home. I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.
If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.

The ethnic groups could basically be divided into two groups, the Tai and the Hmong. The Thai, Tay, and Nung are essentially branches of the same race, the Tai. They are culturally and ethnically similar, and their languages even have intelligibility in contrast to the Hmong, who are completely different

for all those curious, the dish blowing them away at 2:21:12 is called "khâu nhục" in Vietnamese. As a Nung, I often have it at Tet, on some special occasions such as weddings, and big birthday parties for the elderly. As you saw in the video, the process of making took quite a lot of labor, but the taste did worth it.

Thanks for teaching me about the food I was offered in a Hmong village, travelling SEA, 12 years ago. I have so much respect for their way of cooking and making sure to appreciate all parts of the animals. I remember taking a spoon of that dark gastric soup (tasted like dirty muddy water) and seeing lots of skin and hair of the pig in the dishes. I’ve had a lot of weird foods in my life growing up as an Asian, but this feast was quite something to remember! And don’t worry about being called fat, my 44 kg body has also been called fat, they said “you can tell that she’s from Europe, she have some more meat on her” 😂Great show, always keeps me smiling 😊

@@rodriguezkristel i wonder what some of those Vietnamese mountain ladies thought of him, from the little we get to see, i'd say some of them were quite smitten with Andrew, no? He is a damn good looking man, no doubt about that.

The narrator has a clear, motivating, and beautiful voice. He is a good speaker and he describes well about how the foods are prepared, how tasty they were, and how these foods are really strange to him and his companion. The hosts are easily win the Vietnamese trust and respect and they are astonishingly show their cooperation and respect to the tribesmen.

I’m half Vietnamese, I’ve been to Vietnam one time so far I’m only 21, and I did try a lot of food there. BUT, Just so you know Americans stomachs aren’t meant for their food, they have bacteria in their food that can quite literally kill us, their stomachs are made for it because they’ve been eating like that since birth, they have natural good bacteria to fight off the harmful bacteria. So you should never just go to any foreign country and eat whatever, our food preparations are completely different. 👍🏼

@@panelsm7933 yup...also, anyone (the OP) who makes a comment that even subtly talks shit about another persons race/skin color, i.e. "the white guy" is an idiot and the reason why race relations are so bad. Replace the word "white" with any other race/religion/skin color and ask yourself would you say it. In 2021 "white people" are taking so much shit for nothing, stfu.

@@panelsm7933 yes!! My dad ordered a smoothie when we went to Vietnam because it looked soooo good and he just needed it lol. Well, turns out they literally used ice from a river to make it 😭😂, they just eat different and it’s not made for our weak stomachs. He ended up getting severely sick and could have passed. So yes 👍🏼 I completely agree with you!

I moved from America to Vietnam and lived there for 2 yrs recently. Once Covid is done it’s very reasonable to live there and accessible to foreigners as a Visa is very easily attainable, plus it very safe and affordable to live there!! There is a large expat community in Vietnam as evident by expats like Sonny and Andrew.

It's not just Vietnam but Asia in general are very laid back, people take one day at a time, it's might not be good for the economy, but mentally you don't feel the stress and pressures of 9 to 5 and paying bills of North America and Europe. I seriously feel content when I'm in Vietnam, and back to depression mode when I'm returning to North America

Yeah, as long as the commie party tolerates your different opinion or even Christian faith! In Redchina that quickly turned around in no time during the last time and turned into the dystopian social credit and reeducation hellhole it was known for during the days during and after Mao. Let's hope and pray that Vietnam stays on a different course.

Sonny ILOVE this series of tribal videos you did, I live in Melbourne Australia and we have a huge Vietnamese community but you have opened my eyes so much more. I’m Irish and I love Vietnamese food. There is a thing in Melbourne where Vietnamese people love to bake bread and own ALOT of bakery’s, most people love banh mi. When I’m not going to an Irish pub to have bacon and cabbage, or an Aussie pub having a Parma and chips, I’m going to a Vietnamese restaurant for a big bowl of pho, fresh chilli extra bean shoots, a restaurant full of smiles a beer. Thanks Sonny

Wow! I've never saw a Hmong wedding this big. The bride and groom must be from rich families. Speaking of Hmong people, did you know that Sunisa Lee, a young Hmong lady have just won GOLD medal for the woman's all-around Gymnastic competition in Tokyo last week. She is the first Hmong woman and first Asian Woman to have won this title. She will be amount Mary Lou Retton, Carly Patterson, Nastia Liukin and a few other US women who had won this title. Hmong People all around the world is very proud of her and she will receive a heroic welcome when she return to Minnesota, her home state. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoLRZWx5d9KXb68
