I have a somewhat unique situation. I live surrounded by corn fields. I have done everything I can to keep field mice from coming into the house, but every time they harvest, plant, fertilize, or even just tilling with their machinery, I get a few mice in my house. Sometimes the 1st indication they've entered is non-refrigerated foods being eaten on. I've learned the best way to stop that is to put everything in plastic or glass containers and place in the fridge. This buys time for the cats to do their job. (And before you say it, all my dishes, pots and pans, etc..., that aren't kept in containers are stored upsidedown so the mice can't get in them.) The price of living in the country. But I wouldn't exchange for city dwelling ever. Been there, done that,...)

@@MrChopsticktech I lived most of my life in the city. Not going to do it again. You can have the cities. Give wide open spaces, stars in the sky, clean breezes, and neighbors with chickens, cows, horses and goats, that come up to the fence line for a quick nibble on a carrot or a rub between the ears. Besides, it's only about 15-20 minutes to the not so small town with a Walmart and grocery stores. I'll pay a little extra in gas and put up with the occasional critter where he doesn't belong. The trade-off is definitely worth it to me.

I think for all of these, it would depend on the temperature of your house. most people in the US keep their houses between 65 - 75 F year round. Well yeah you can and it's still good and safe to use - but it really looses much of that fresh flavor after the first day - I notice that from getting super fresh quality butter. Honey is an odd duck, basically it never spoils. They found honey in the pyramids that was still edible,

Peaches will get softer on the counter but once they're pulled off the tree they can no longer ripen at all.

Citrus fruits dry out in a few days so I have to store mine in the fridge and it doesn't affect the quality.

I'm in Florida. I camp in a small van some times. it has a small 12v fridge that can run 24x7 at 40F in my simple power setup. Mostly I refrigerate cause the van can get up to 100F inside during the middle of the day . But in our so-called winter, it can get down to 40F some nights. When I does , I have an electric blanket but don't have enough power to run the fridge and the blanket. I know veggies will be fine overnight at around 50F without a fridge, but how about cured ham and left over deep fried chicken with the skin? cheese? left over pizza?

Once I started refrigerating onions, they stopped making me cry when I cut them, and I don't have any problems with them being in the fridge!

Lake o land butter website says to follow the direction on the packages. The say put it in the refrigerator and only take it out 30 minutes before using to have it soft.

I read that parsley keeps bacteria from forming in food. So if you are without a frig maybe cook with parsley for leftovers.

So many people (this video commentator included) incorrectly warn about fridges having high humidity. The humidity inside fridges ranges from 30-50% (which is the same range that it is recommended that you set your HVAC system). And the ambient humidity where I live typically ranges from 50-85%.

I do all of these correctly. You can usually tell by where they are in the produce section if they're in the refrigerator case or unrefrigerated in a bin. So people who show up for me say this is go in the fridge the first question I have is where did you get it? Was in the refrigerator case or was it just in the produce section? Then they figure out on their own and learn we had to put things I've got potatoes in the living room and onions in the kitchen. The potatoes are on their way to the bedroom which is almost always Dock and the window is always open.

I have always refrigerated or even freeze chocolate and never had any issues. Put a bag of Reeses minis in the freezer and tell me they aren't fantastic. LOL

I have a question to ask. What is the difference between storing food in the fridge and storing food in the freezer? It would be much appreciated if a video can be made on this. Thanks
@rob51974 жыл бұрын
Simple in a fridge you keep food cold but unlike a freezer that keep your food for a long time your fresh food can last just few days
@rob51974 жыл бұрын
Mind you, as the video shows not all food can go in the freedge or freezer.. Be selective, general rule keep fresh food n a cool place for few days always check it looks OK and more important that it smells good---BON APPETIT

Eg. bread in the fridge dries up, in the freezer it will retain moisture. So bread is moist after taken out from freezer.
