Destiny is right, on average most people do date within their social circle and within their age group. But you are taking his point to the extreme and saying there is no outliers. There are plenty of stories of rich guys marrying waitresses, it's not happening everyday but it does happen. The most extreme on is one of the Saudi Sheikhs married a waitress. From the age 17, all through college, when I was working 3 jobs, I had wealthy men trying to date me all the time. They could care less that I wasn't rich. In high school I worked at Wendy's and had men in nice cars giving me their numbers through the drive thru wisdow. Destiny should just admit that women date and marry men who are more successful than them a lot more than the reverse. This is obvious that there are way more successful male finance and law and enterpreneurs high fliers dating girls who work in art and fashion or media who make way less money from their career . Saying "they date within their class" tries to dishonestly obscure the fact that even though the girls whom successful men date usually come from families with similar backgrounds, those girls from rich/middle class backgrounds usually are less successful and make a lot less money in their own career than the men but rather they go work for a magazine or an art gallery or some other job that has a decent amount of status but pays hardly anything. You can clearly see this from how much more often a childless couple will feature a successful, hardworking man and a gf/wife who is financially supported by him than you see the reverse, a successful hardworking, high-earning woman and a boyfriend who is financially supported by her . Furthermore the relationship is more likely to end and the female partner is more likely to feel disatisfied if she is financially supporting her male partner than vice versa. There are so many jobs that only pretty girls from rich families take because they usually make hardly any money so the only people able to do them are pretty girls from rich families because they know their family will be able to support them until they find a high-earning boyfriend.

Many women who work in magazines and art and fashion occupy high paying positions and are happily married. Many middle class women have professional degrees and have very successful careers. A lot of women who do come from wealthy families are college educated and occupy high paying jobs. Women with high paying jobs look for men with high paying jobs. Broke rednecks marry other broke rednecks. People marry within their social and income class. The reason why women want their husbands to make more money is because of issues related to childbearing and child raising. It's not some random female desire because reasons. If it was the man who got pregnant and raised kids, providing for the family would've been the woman's main responsibility. This is analogous to men wanting to marry women with less sexual experience, which stems from the primal desire to ensure that the children she bears are his. The same also applies to childless couples.

So I certainly agree there. But I think we can both agree it’s not completely just egalitarian now and women still have many of the ideals from old times. As for your example; Personally id probably chose the doctor because I don’t care about that sort of thing. But I’ll pose something in response, are you considering the fact that men maybe rationally or irrationally fear their women earning more money than them and being of higher status and men in these kind of situations have reported the women begins to emasculate them leading to a toxic environment. One could argue here women spent all of history defining themselves by being able to land men superior in status and gathering resources until 50 years ago; which is obviously something new for us as human beings, and new things usually have side effects and challenges.
