Thanks for this upload. I’m 60 and boxed as an amateur during this time period. Burner was always a hero to me and competed in probably the greatest ever era of heavyweight boxing. Never let us down. I watched him live against Cooper and always thought Gibbs called it right

You're absolutely correct. Fearless, light-footed and an extraordinary chin. I've read several places that the death of Ulrich Regis, especially so early in Bugners career, sapped him of a certain kind of drive.

This is a great post. Joe Bugner did have a great career and always gave his best. I can’t believe how relaxed he is on the day of the fight, even driving himself to the weigh in.

So underacted by the British , but so highly regarded by American Boxers, trainers and pundits . Joe was a brilliant defensive boxer with a chin of Iron , and if you were a top 10 contender you had better be on your game to beat him , unlucky against Ernie shavers , and lost by one round to Lyle and came close to Frazier ,

Ali-Bugner fight #2 in Malaysia took place at mid day under a canopy in a 120 plus degrees. It took place at this time for the American TV audience and was at the advantage of Ali who was used to training in the heat of Miami. Bugner, however, was not used to this type of heat and just couldn't get going. If it had taken place in the cool of night, I think Joe would have put up a much better showing although the result would have probably been the same! After all we are talking Ali here!

Joe Bugner’s Manager Andy Smith is the father of Robert Smith the General Secretary of the BBBofC. This is such a brilliant fly on the wall documentary before they even did these things.

Fascinating seeing London back in the 70s. A different world. Bugner looked great and seemed well liked by the public. I think it was the British press rather than the public whom he sometimes had a problem with. Bugner was a naturally big man whereas I'm convinced that many modern boxers are unnaturally big due to performance enhancing drugs.

Great vid! Bugner was a underated fighter who had loads of talent, however his actions inside the ring was questionable. His lack of desire for instance against Ali in the second fight was buzzare. Despite all that he had loads of courage, just didn't want it bad enough. Just my opinion. God bless joe. Thanks

The light heavy Limit was 12st.7. lbs then and it is still 12 st. 7lbs now. Bugner was 6ft 4ins tall and 15 stone 11lbs is perfect at that height. Physically Bugner is the ideal heavyweight build.
