Obviously, if I was out in the market for a new printer I would certainly select the Epson ET 4850 for the touchscreen alone. Your videos are priceless Brandon always with a lot of very helpful info for the consumer to make an informed buying decision and I thank you for being there for us!! 👏😁

According to the B&H website, the 4850 can do 2-sided copying. I take that to mean that you don't have to manually take out the sheet of paper and re-load it into the ADF to copy the 2nd side. I do *not* think it means single-pass 2-sided copying, rather I take it to mean that the printer will do some gymnastics with the paper to scan one side, then flip over the page and put it through again to scan the 2nd side. This would be invaluable if true! What do you think? Are they wrong? Here's a link to the comparison, or, just look at the info when you click on each printer. I suspect they are wrong but I can hope, right? Well, I'm wrong - I just read a PCMag review. But they say it has FAX ability, which could justify the price difference. Right now (1/12/23) I can get the 4850 for $20 more than the 3850. Seems worthwhile perhaps if only for the touchscreen.

The big difference for me between the Epson 3850 and 4850 was price. And in that price was the fax machine. I don’t use a fax machine but maybe once every 3 or 4 years, if that. And the other difference was the lack of the touch screen on the 3850. But for the price savings, I can use the buttons instead.

The 4850 mentions it can scan to memory device however I'm trouble to find what type of memory device they are referring to. The manual does not specify anything about this either that I have found. There is no sd card slot and the usb port on the back states is only to connect to pc. Do you know what type of memory device the 4850 is capable of scanning to?

This is a good question which I have been looking for an anwer for. I have not found anyone stating the a memory device port for scanning is included. My WF-4734 Workforce Pro can scan to memory device, cloud, computer (WSD), network folder/ftp, email and computer. I'm thinking you will be able to scan to any of those with the exception of memory device. Hope this helps.

I ordered the 4850, because the FAX, while archaic, is the only way to share content with many medical and financial institutions. We had a serious illness in the family that resulted in a passing. I used the fax ability at least 2 dozen times when corresponding with insurance companies, medical companies, government offices, and financial institutions. While encrypted and authenticated email has been around for years, it’s amazing how many institutions will not support it.

Honestly I find internet faxing to be far superior. Scan and fax as normal except you’re using software to send the fax to the recipients fax machine. I find it easier and you don’t need a phone line and it saves time stamp copies of everything so you have proof of receipt

Brandon - you say that the ET-3850 can handle card stock. I'm looking at printing multiple batches of postcards will it work for this? The postcards are between 0.007 and 0.016 inches thick.

Sams club has the 3850 on sale now for $329. Ordered for pickup and then cancelled because it doesn't have FAX. I rarely ever need it but, it is still necessary once in awhile. Some financial institutions will not accept an email scan attachment..

@BestPrinters thanks for the response, mostly I am curious about picture quality? Like which prints a better picture and which can handle better various papers, especially ones not from epson. In my research the 4800 did not have auto duplex and I wasn't sure if it had ADF either. Like it sounded like it was actually better at pics but worse at typical office tasks. I really wanted to know if that (it's picture capabilities and lack of duplex) can be confirmed. Also the 4800 sounds like it uses ink different from the 4850?

Hello, Just came across your video when i am looking for a printer these holidays for home use(For Myself and for 2 teenage kids). Have Canon MF4770n for few years...No Colour printing and double sided printing is not the feature it has so its a pain as we have to manually flip the paper in order to do double sided. Looks Like EcoTank Printers are the way to go in order to save on cartridges although the cost of the printer itself is bit high. Could you please recommend few Ecotank printers(Top 3 or 5 in ascending order) which are good for home use and for our family. I really appreciate and rely on your input to buy the printer these holidays. Thanks,

4850 online spec says "Ethernet and Wireless Hands-Free Printing" while 3850 says "Wireless Printing Support from Smartphones or Tablets" I understand the ethernet but I thought "wireless hands-free printing" is the same as "wireless printing support from smartphones or tablets"? what am I missing? thanks

I recently purchased a new Epson Eco Tank 3850 printer at Costco for $325.00. The setup was relatively easy and I had it up and running in about 15 minutes after unboxing. However, I am extremely disappointed in the quality of the printing for both documents and photos.The edging in the photos were grainy and the colors were darker then the original photos. I reset the color management and it still produced a low quality image. The scanner is also cheap inefficient. After scanning a simple document I discovered the text had jagged edges and the tops of the fonts in some sentences were chopped off. The only way I could get nice sharp fonts in a document was to scan in Photo Mode. The top automatic feeder which is used to scan multiple documents or make copies, pulls the entire stack of papers into the feeder all at once. I had to physically stagger each page individually to prevent the stack from jamming the feeder. All in all this printer is ,sfr of poor quality materials and is cheaply made. Thank God I saved the box. I'm packaging it back up and taking it back to Costco first thing tomorrow.
