the 2850 is defintiely a great printer and i think for 90% of home users or students this is going to be a great printer, but if you need the extra features of the 4850 (like bigger paper tray, top loading scanner, front paper loader, and faster) than i think for the additional price its a great purchase. hi there, I bought 2850 yesterday. Quick question , I can keep my machine close to window - It used to be colder temperature ranging 1 degree to 14 max. Is it okay to keep the machine in cold place or I need to consider keeping it in warm place. Please advise.

Thanks for the update on the 2850! For my dollar, I'd go for the 4850 because of the doc feed and front load, plud the increased speed.

Hello, Thank you for the review, I heard that the ET printers have ink absorb pad at the back of the printer to absorb recycling inks. when it saturated, it triggers a sensor and it cause the printer to stop working and we need to send it back to Epson repair facility to get it resets. is it true?

The ET-4850 is currently on sale at Sam's Club for US$349.99. I like its paper tray capacity, but I don't truly need the automatic document feeder. (I currently own a Brother INKvestment MFC-J1215DW, which lacks a display screen, so the display screens on either of those Epson models would be a nice upgrade.) I used to own one of the Epson Workforce printers, but had to replace it with the Brother when I just couldn't get the printheads unclogged anymore.

Pricing at Best Buy (Canada) is a bit lower than the Epson site. These are great looking printers though the initial pricing is on the higher side. Consumers would certainly need to do their homework to compare pricing over time compared to cartridge printers. On a personal level, my printer works in a home/office setting with routinely, about 20 pages printed per month. If I was to choose one it wold probably be the ET-2850.

we were very happy with the 2850. And im sure our daughter will love having it. The 4850 definitley has a few features that im now happy to have. It really depends on if you woul dneed those features and how much you actually print. I do a fair bit of printing and i definitely do a lot of scanning. so useful features for me.

They both use dye inks so neither is meant for business printing. Dyes are cheap, have great color gamut on photo paper, and clog less. These are important advantages to home printing. Pigment inks are more expensive, you need more pigment colors to achieve the same results on photo paper, clog more but have two unbeatable advantages for business printing: they are water and sun resistant and they don't bleed on the other side on plain paper. When you see the yellow ink (in the bottle) as bright yellow, it's pigment ink. When it looks like transparent orange, it's dye ink.

so you're saying Epson 502 is dye? Epson official website says 502 set is blk pigment and CMY colors are dye the other similar ink bottles with diff number are all 1 type , they go with the ET printers with same size ink windows ie et-2720. probably all dye. great tip though. another tip dye is simply color liquid mixed into a liquid to make ink, pigment is solid which doesn't dissolve into the base liquid., that's why its darker and less see through.

I need your assistance please. I know the ET 4850 can do 2 sided printing from the ADF….but can it *scan a 2 sided document automatically* from the ADF? I want to put in 2 sided docs & have it scan both sides without me having to manually flip & collate. I keeps seeing conflicting answers. So I would appreciate your input because I do a lot of scanning. I’m looking for a replacement from my good old 🇨🇦 Epson Workforce 3540, which is over 10yr+ old now, but had much better specs than most of the newer printers. I’m having a hard time trying to find a comparable replacement, now that it has died. 😫 I would have thought specs over the last 10yrs would have become better not worse & more $$$. I just spent 30 minutes on the phone with Epson. The 2850 will not print card stock. It continually jams.

Hey I've been looking into the ET-4850, however I want to print on 300g/m² paper (Magic The Gathering card thickness). Do you have any experience on printing on this kind of paper ? They sometimes call it cardstock paper. According to the product details it can handle it but they do differantiate between normal paper and photo paper. So I'm a bit confused and wary because they make that difference. So if you ever printed on this kind of paper I would love your feedback on it

You say "epson Gave me,........ epson decided to send me ......" please explain how or why Epson is giving you free printers. I can't see that they moved you up from 2850 , skipping the 3850 to 4850. The 4850 has a front enclosed paper feeder tray and a front output tray, the printer will not work without it, (good luck if it's damaged), this also means the paper does a C curl from start to finish. It doesn't take bigger paper , it simply has a tray below the output tray , vs 2850 is rear fed and only has a front output tray, which in some applications is BETTER, they both take the SAME size paper. The real differences are that it's more touchscreen, it's a Fax machine and has AUTO feeder scanning and copying , the 2850 does not have. It's buttons also hide when not in use and the build quality of the front panel is superior . We would all love free printers and upgrades tell us how .

Sounds like a bit of a rant! What’s your point about the bottom tray exactly? If any part of these printers breaks it’s going to be a problem. I’ve had Epson printers with lower feed trays for decades and never had a problem with the paper feed.
