My dad drove this route back in the mid 70's and loved it. We have a few photos left and he's long dead but this really shows what he described. I think now I can understand a little of what he loved so much. Cheers

Wow that's really interesting Will, I bet the photo's you have are great. I read a superb factual book about this route many years ago about the pioneer drivers, of which your own dad must have been one of those drivers too. The book was written ( I think in the late 70s or early 80s) Sadly I no longer have it and I can't remember the name of it. But it was a great read. There was an "ex" Hells Angel amongst one of the drivers, and also bizarrely the former bass player of a successful glam rock band too !

Super heros. Nice video, at a free world, without ANY danger/ terrorism!!!!
@ULTRA_211213 күн бұрын
LOL, you're really an idiot, aren't you? Never heard of the IRA, RAF, ETA or the Red Brigades... In the 70s and 80s there were many more active terrorist organizations than you know about today. And while you see the border crossings to the Warsaw Pact states in the video, you talk about a free world?? You really have no idea about life in the 70s and 80s...

This is fabulous. Makes my hay and straw haulage with my wagon and drag around the narrow English lanes look positively tame and simple by comparison :)

fantastic upload, what a fine piece of documentary. In those days strangers (the truckers) were warmly welcomed, it seems. In many ways the countries have changed since then, and not all to the better. What a pity ...

Many things have changed over the last 35 years. But it's just great to see, some kept the same. Teh view to Topkapi, the bridge at Pasinler or Pol-e-Doktha and the traffic in Iran was as busy as it is today. Nice document of the real trucking heros.

che dispiacere, vedere tutti quei poveracci ribaltati. dopo migliaia di km, di fatica, di freddo per guadagnarsi il pane. io l' ho fatto dal 78 all' 81 e per fortuna è andato sempre tutto bene.

Iran hates the West but still uses Western Technology and old British vehicles are still in use especially the Hillman Hunters. I used to sell truck loads of used Hillmans, Triumphs, Austins, Morris, cars along with trucks like Guys, ERFs, etc...way back in late 60s early 70s and most of them are still running.

At that time, there was no proper highway in Turkey. For the last 20 years, the state-of-the-art highway has 3 and 4 lanes and there is no one-way round trip... Large facilities are for truckers, but interestingly, Sweden Denmark Norway still does not have a highway 3 4 lane, especially Norway is the only one in the world exemplary road one lane you are waiting for the oncoming road.. Romania Bulgarian Hungarian Slovakia Poland Slovenia croatia they are still living in ancient times...
