Actually I'd say the worst part of this dynamic is that Vader knows Palpatine is lying about eventually ending the slaving. Vader knows full well Palpatine is a liar. Let's face it, in Palpatine's mind everyone in the galaxy was his slave, just some had more power than others, and Vader knew that it's just now he knows how low a group can fall.

I think Palpatine may be the greatest villain ever written. He is not merely a big bad, he truly is the mastermind and overarching threat of the story. He killed his own master and became the greatest menace of all, he orchestrates basically everything that happens in the story, and he manipulates and plays everybody, good and bad. He uses peoples mistakes and misunderstandings to his advantage and maneuvers every situation and every thread of the story to his favor. He corrupts characters like Anakin slowly and earns their trust only to use them for his own ends. Vader is a tragic character in that he was not only a slave but he was even more enslaved than he had ever realized, being caught up in the politics and manipulations of others, not just Palpatine but also the Jedi whom had grown complacent and more than a few were hardly practicing the good side they claimed to be. Palpatine saw Anakin's potential for both the force and for the sith, deciding shortly after meeting him who his eventual successor would be and molding him towards that end. Anakin had a high opinion and personal relationship with Palpatine as chancellor and only much later did this bloom into Anakin being completely played into joining the sith, thinking he could save Padme, when in reality this act IS what eventually killed her. She fell in love with him and couldn't believe what he became and it broke her and she died for the lack of a will to live because of him. In the end, Anakin Skywalker was defeated not in battle but by skillful manipulation, Palpatine destroyed him, made him his own slave and anytime Vader did try to oppose Palpatine, we see time and time again how Palpatine dominates him.
@RaphBlade723 күн бұрын
1:42 - Ah, the classic you either die a hero, or live long enough to become the villain! Ironically Anakin/Vader (as suit Vader is just the dark side shell of the man who was Anakin) managed to do both, albeit out of order! Lived to see himself become something he despised, and died a hero saving his son, daughter, & the galaxy (at least before the sequals came along and ruined it) from Palpatine the man who groomed him to become his Sith Apprentice! 3:33 - "Palpatine is just twisting the proverbial vibroblade knife by bringing up Anakin's mother! He likely hopes it will fuel his anger while at the same time his fear that he is truly reprehensible and possibly Vader will realize that as Palpatine's Apprentice he is basically little more than a slave to him and even if he overthrows Palpatine in accordance with the rule of Two, he will still be a slave to the will of Dark Side especially if he ever gives into it as completely as Sidious does (after all Palpatine fully embraces the Dark Side even to the empire's detriment as it isn't meant to survive without him)! 4:35 - "Let us not forget, Palpatine is as much a politician at heart as he is a Sith Lord! He frames slavery as a mercy to his enemies whom he & Dooku manipulated during the Clone Wars! This allows him to justify enslavement which he believes is necessary for his empire to grow (ignoring the fact that slave labor while cheap, is often ineffective & prone to problems like slaves revolting or escaping their enslavement which can lead them vulnerable to recruitment by factions opposed to Imperial rule)!

it was out of a sense of loyalty to Palpatine. Palpatine played the role of a concerned father figure to Anakin during the events of ep 3 telling him everything he wanted to hear. after losing Padme, Anakin didn't have a sense of who he was anymore and Palpatine exploited that by promising him more power which Vader hoped would allow him to find a way to bring Padme back. as for the attempt to take over, Palpatine purposefully made Vader's suit weak to force lightning to give him a constant reminder he was the master and Vader was the dog he kept around out of pity

i think vader's problem was he was stuck, mentally paralysed. he came to hate himself, stuck reliving the events on mustafar, the death of padme and his fight against obi wan and the damage his body went through. its got to be like when you know you hate your life, but you feel stuck, so you just keep going through each day on auto pilot, instead of ever doing anything about it you just give up any hope of digging yourself out of the miserable pit you are stuck in, iv seen it happen in life and guys often need somebody to can pull them out of that kind of darkness. its only when he discovers his son luke exists that he starts to finally come back to life again.

Soooooo, Anakin knew that a fuckton of worlds in the Separtist movement utilized slavery, sided with someone who was a self-proclaimed Sith Lord (a group of people who have historically used slaves, often), helped him assasinate leaders stopping the integration of the Separtist movememt into the Galactic Republic, and was vehemently unaware of current legisaltion in a government where he is a prominent figure. Even if he's supposed to be lying to himself here, Episode 3 made it seem like he lost all fucks. Did he survive as a slave on Tatooine and never see another child die either? Cause the dark side seemed to wipe away THAT trauma enough right after Hayden Christianson put the contacts in.

@thesanfranciscoseahorse47328 күн бұрын
I mean.... Not necessarily. The Jedi were not all powerful, and with an entire galaxy full of different cultures, thousands that practiced slavery, I'm sure there were times they had to just "tolerate" the practice, otherwise they'd probably have destroyed critical alliances and started unnecessary wars.
@augustinejacob499528 күн бұрын
@@thesanfranciscoseahorse473 That is why the Jedi should never have gotten involved in politics. Politicians are not moral beacons, they compromise their morals for the sake of stability and peace. People has absolutely no loyalty to said regime and will give themselves to anyone who feeds them and the republic role, its faults had strict anti-slavery laws within its borderers maybe such practices will be allowed after a lifetime of being part of the empire but so soon after the fall, the republic shortsighted

no slavery of imperial citizens is illegal and not allowed inside the borders of the empire. that non human aliens didn´t fell under the same protection of the human centric politics, protection from dangerous work Environments or the anti slavery law when they caused troubles or belonged to former separatist planets/ races or the rebel alliance is something different. what you were and where you came from was an important factor in what kind of prison complex you were put, after that came what you did, human and non rebel related crimes a rather normal prison fitting your crime non unjust treatment or to harsh punishment, not having to work and can do it on a voluntary base for better conditions or short sentances. human with slight resistance against the empire or some anti empire vandalism like in Andor, end in well a rather okay prison, clean healthy enviorment, where you have to work your time in prison so what the USA does with it´s prisoners, non human/ humanoid like a Wookie as your planet and race is constantly fighting the empire in warfare well you end up in a prison colony or planet doing harsh grueling work fitting for the constant damage and problems you have caused. like working the mines on some astroids around kessel or working on the construction of the DSII while the terrorist alliance blows you and million other prisoners up. but to end up in a prison where you have to work won´t happend to any law abiding citizens of the empire, i mean you have to commit some serious offence to be thrown in prison like that, i mean for a speeding ticket, missing landing permit or generally missing an transponder signal for your star ship you won´t end up in prison
