One could say that Boba's 'death' in RotJ was anticlimactic, but... with bringing him back? I could see Fett thinking the same thing. That he was *that* close to going out... because he jumped into a fight that didn't need to happen. Jabba wanted to humiliate a man who was willing to pay back the debt owed, and managed to botch an execution that should have been simple. This led to the entire collapse of Jabba's empire. Remember what Fett said in this show to Fennec, about how mercenaries die because old fools can't be professional?

That's...actually a really good point. I feel that Jabba simply thought Luke would die to the rancor but as Luke warned him not to do, he underestimate his power. Also, in the original lore, there was a bounty on Luke that Vader put out for him, ALIVE. Boba knew of this bounty and in fact tried to appeal to Jabba to let him bring Skywalker to Vader but Jabba, the dimwitted slug that he is, wouldn't have it and insisted Luke and Han and Chewie all be fed to the Sarlacc. I think that's why Boba originally jumped into the skirmish. It explains why he used the whip on Skywalker, he planned to capture him until finally, his patience was lost before Han blindsided him.

Jabba’s way of operating really did screw Boba over in RotJ. Notice that Skywalker doesn’t have his hands or legs chained for his execution? Luke is only able to survive because of that, he was free to catch a lightsaber from R2, and there is a moment in that scene where Boba glances over to R2 with suspicion, which makes me think Boba wasn’t too confident about the plan. Also once Boba tied up Luke the Sail Barge shooter should have let Fett handle things instead of causing Boba to fall, which messed up his aim and concentration. I could believe Bib Fortuna did sabotage things somehow. He was mysteriously absent when Jabba got choked out.

@@MoshTMA Bib Fortuna could have seen the battle as an opportunity to get rid of Jabba and take the throne. Maybe the guards were actually smart enough to search the droids for weapons but he made sure Jabba didn’t find out Luke had a lightsaber.

If Boba thought Bib Fortuna was behind the murder of the tuskens, he would have killed him along the biker gang or at least before leaving Tatooine to recover his armor from Din Djarin. At that point, Boba seems really convinced that the gang killed his tribe, probably because he thinks he started a feud with them and feels guilty for that as well as not being there when the attack occured. That makes him blind to the obvious truth that the Nikto weren't strong enough to do that in the first place and that the true culprits are still alive and well.

@@samuelwoods164 I don't know, it doesn't really feel like the state of mind he was in when it came to avenge his tusken friends. He went right for the gang as soon as he had his ship back, you know, so I don't feel like he was willing to let it slide for long... plus he would have mentioned Bib's involvement to Fennec when they talked about the Sand people and taking over the whole criminal world of Tatooine. They've mentioned the two topics in the same conversation and Boba didn't link them at all. To me it seems like the Pykes probably killed the tribe and made it look like it was the Nikto, the same way Stormtroopers made it look like the tuskens killed jawas in a New Hope. But we'll see soon enough anyway. ^^

I think the pykes killed the tuskens after the humiliating dearest of there train they knew if they took out the tuskens and blamed it on the nikto gang then they knew Boba would kill them alas they don't need to pay either party

But I'd really like to know the details on how and when he did anything wrong to Boba, for sure. 😅 Don't think they will talk about that any further in the show, though...

I think it was pretty self-explanatory that they left him for dead in the sarlacc without a chance to rescue. It's like when Jabba died his contract was dismissed, they didn't pay him, kept his ship locked, he would be killed on sight or be unwanted if he ever came back. Of course i would like to believe that there was more backstory behind hire that Jabba and Bib didn't honor

Basically there’s no reason based on any proof that Bib would think he would be able to get Boba out of the monster or know Boba is alive. Now yes there has been some rumours, but Boba didn’t even ask Bib or have any proof that Bib didn’t send people out to look for him where people said they saw Boba. There’s another thing. What is it? If Bib did order the killing of the sp wouldn’t Bib be justified in doing so? The Sp kills and enslaves everyone they see. Really from everything I have seen Boba doesn’t really have any reason to hate Bib. Also in the show Boba basically escaped immediately so how would Bib have time to send out a party? Bib would first need to lock down or get control of the criminal empire before he could realistically do anything.

That's how I took it: If it was possible for Bib & Gang to manage to escape, they could have returned or attempted to save Boba and some of the other victims who fell in. Bib kept Slave I, but didn't try to help his owner. I do believe, there may have been something else to Boba's revenge on Bib.

In which as Boba turned around/fell with his back to Luke, got a lightsaber sliced into his jetpack! Hence the reason it was acting faulty after that. You can even look it up on the internet: they made a jetpack with the lightsaber damage on it!

I think that the Tuskens were killed by the Pykes to avoid having to pay them tribute. They then framed the bikers, so that Boba would kill them, thus eliminating another tribute payment and competition

BRO! I've been saying this ever since I saw the Robot Chicken sketch where Boba was drunk. CUZ IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE! First, when initially taking off he hits his feet against the railing and stretches his arms out as if he's superman, a very drunk-like thing to do. Then he gets UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL to Luke just to point his gun above his head like an idiot, getting it chopped in half. And throughout the whole fight his movements were just very slow and he seemed to be tumbling all over the place as if he was drunk, so it's always been my head canon that he was drunk. That would also explain why we found him unconscious in the flashback during episode one of him in the Sarlacc. Perhaps he became unconscious cuz of all the alcohol in his system. Why else would that have happened? It's not like he hit his head on the way down or anything, and he was screaming right before going into the Sarlacc so he was clearly conscious after the initial hit on the barge. So yeah, this pretty much confirmed to me that he was indeed drunk during ROTJ.

I can't clearly remember his name but The droid that was on the rescue mission for the twi'lek's brother (zero I believe his name was) Also had an EE-3 Carbine so when zero was destroyed by Mando, what was left of zero along with his rifle was left on the razor crest. so in the episode the Tragedy, When boba spots his gear in the the razor crest he probably retrieved the EE-3 and the rest of his gear before the razor crest blew up

The flashbacks show that Boba had been scoping out the palace regularly prior to meeting Fennec. I think he could come upon someone and inquired about the current state of things. He had spoken with the Pikes in town prior to the Tusken people being wiped out, so it's not out of place for him to have visited a few towns on his bantha from time to time.

I have thought since the episode aired that the Pykes were the ones who killed the tuskens and not the swoop gang. Biggest reasons were the technology the Pykes have, they are very vengeful, and I don’t remember seeing any bodies of the group that slaughtered the tuskens which would mean they either did it at a distance or they were far superior warriors. The swoop gang got beat up by Boba Fett who was newly trained with the gaffi stick vs tuskens who have learned the weapon their whole life. I also think it was the Pykes because they said they already paid for protection but that was a failure since they lost the train and those who were protecting them needed to be punished. So 2 birds with 1 stone type of thing. Wipe out those who successfully took out the train and blame it on those who were paid to protect you and make them take the heat and any retaliation vs the Pykes who were secretly operating on the planet.

I don't think he would know that Boba Fett was alive at the time of the Tuscan slaughter. At the end of The Mandalorian Season 2, Bib says that he had "heard many rumors" right before Boba shoots him. Bib was clearly letting the spice trade happen on Tatooine; therefore, when Boba and the Tuscans in Episode 2 attacked the train, the Pykes may have had their suspissions of who he was. The Pykes may have reported it to Bib Who then sent the bikers to kill the Tuscan tribe but Boba wasn't around to confirm his suspissions. Most likely though, the Pykes assumed Boba was just a Tuscan Raider without a mask since they were known to be savage and great fighters.

Boba went to collect his ship after leaving the Tuskins to talk to the Pyke Syndicate to collect the credits for use of the dune sea, but was turned away at blaster point by Bib Fortuna's guards & refused entry to get his ship. Without his armor or help, he could do nothing at the time. So he felt betrayed, kind of why Bib mention he thought he was dead, but heard rumors, trying to play it off.

What I can’t help wondering is how Bib Fortuna survived the events of Return of the Jedi. In the movie, a viewer could easily be forgiven for assuming he died when the sail barge exploded. We don’t really see anything indicating he could have gotten clear which leaves me to wonder what exactly happened. The simplest explanation I can come up with is at some point he ditched the sail barge. Maybe he panicked and bailed when it was clear Jabba wasn’t going to win the fight, or he panicked after Jabba died. Of course That would still beg the question of exactly when he left and how he got back to the palace. Maybe he had a speeder bike hidden in there, and didn’t get noticed because everyone was distracted by Luke?

That particular tribe didn’t really seem that big and if they were dismounted , their mele weapons / slow long rifles would do nothing against a surprise attack from a speeder amounted gang with rapid firing weapons .

Exactly. If the Tuskens got dug in and knew they were coming, they may have had a chance. But if thr swoop gang took the Tuskens by surprise, they would have utterly destroyed the tribe blitzkrieg style.

The Pykes were salty, they despised the fact the remnants of the dune sea stopped them & took them out. It'd make sense for them to go through bib Fortuna and tell him about boba fett. The goals were aligned.. They'd get paid for wiping out their own problem, possibly for free..

In the War of the Bounty Hunters comic series it is explained how Bib double crosses Boba when Boba is en route to collect the bounty from Jabba on Carbonite Han. The story has been very good, it is a recommended read. Downside for me is it covers the same time period of Shadows of the Empire, leaving that fun story as Legends only.

well, after boba gets his ship back and leaves, gets his armor and helps mando, we see boba jumping to hyperspace and leaving. So I'm thinking it was after that , I mean, what was he doing while he was waiting for Fennec to finish her part in helping Mando? Maybe Fortuna heard that Boba returned to the planet and hired people to try and kill him before he could reach the palace. That seems more likely than some drugging on Jabba's ship. What does Bib stand to gain from that? Great video SW Comics, I hope we get an answer in BOBF

Very very interesting stuff never really gave too much thought as to why boba went out the way he did, just always chocked it up to Boba getting tunnel vision on Luke. But I don’t consider not saving someone as being double crossed that’s not what double crossed means anyway so what ever Bib did it had to have been more than him just not saving him from the sarlacc.

If the line is "That bloated pig Bib Fortuna double crossed me" it could imply that the betrayal was recent because now he is bloated, but he was not bloated in Return of the Jedi.

I think that bib Fortuna may have tampered with boba's jetpack, as if the armour is beskar it should not have just gone out like that boba says it himself when fenicc points out that his armour will have been dissolved boba states "not Beskar." implying that there is at least some quantity of beskar in his armour.

Bib Fortuna hotwired and sabotaged his Jetpack. Bib was eliminating all of Jabba's top agents paving the way for him to take the throne when Jabba was killed. He was even planning Jabba's death but the Sarlacc pit battle happened escalating events.

Perhaps Boba Fett had some damning information about Bib Fortuna moving against Jabba. And Bib, thinking that some craziness would go down at the Sarlacc pit, sabotaged Fett's jetpack to misfire at the slightest bump.

I honestly never really felt it was that much of a reach that Boba was a little buzzed from the night before. Although I'm sure even C3P0 could attest to the extraordinarily small odds of Boba's jet pack being struck -accidentally- by a blind guy with a stick in just the right way so as to set off the boosters launching him into the pit... just a thought.

I think the betrayal is when bobas jet pack went of and slammed him into the barge, it was a window he hit. I think fortuna was standing next to it and saw him heading towards the window and closed the shutter making him crash and fall into the sarlac pit

There is likely meaning behind it, or rather will have meaning behind it when they think of a good one. We may not even get the reveal during this series but I suspect there will be one eventually.

It would also explain why Luke was able to cut his rifle before he got a shot, why he tried to fight a Jedi with tons of ranged weaponry and a jetpack from 3 feet away, and why he continuously missed Luke with his wrist blaster. Makes sense

I don't get why Boba would hold Bib responsible for double crossing him, unless it's explained in the next episodes of Book of Boba Fett that he was already aware of Bib doing so before he fell into the Sarlacc, which happened before Leia killed Jabba. It doesn't seem likely that the Tusken tribe would know or tell Boba that Jabba was dead and it doesn't show you Fennec telling Boba either, why would he not assume it was Jabba who double crossed him?

Boba was a bounty hunter working for a Hutt run crime syndicate. I have a hard time believing he was expecting any kind of loyalty, concern, or least of all a rescue. Being pissed off because a crime boss's lieutenant didn't mount a search and rescue seems like a stretch.
