Too little time is taken to appreciate all the parts of the environment surrounding our favorite fishing holes. Here in the tropics, mangrove trees dominate the saltwater landscape. They are incredibly hardy despite the harsh conditions and as a result, they've claimed the water's edge almost exclusively. Still, very few people know even the basics about these natural wonders. This video should help shine a little light on those new to the salt life and perhaps even to those people that just never took the time to find out more about these amazing trees.
If you'd like to read more about the subject, the following is a great place to start...
www.floridamus...
If you'd like to visit my kayak rental place here in Ruskin, Florida to see the tunnels in person, you can find me at www.zoffinger.com
All of my videos are intended to be free to viewers. KZbin ads and sponsorships help support my efforts and also help keep the lights on at the rental business. If you would like to further help contribute, there is a Patreon account for those willing. Just watching is appreciated. People who become Patrons are amazing.
Thank you all so much!

Marty, there are not enough words of praise in the English language to bestow upon you. The enlightenment we receive thru your videos is so much more than simple (how to) information. You capture our minds and every so often you capture our souls by showing us the beauty that is all around us if we would just take the time to look. Thank you and God Bless my friend.

Marty you’re the frickin coolest. I love that you did this video! I’m a Florida native and I learned a couple things about mangroves 😀 I’ve lived in NY for the past 25 years, but will be in FL next month. I’ve actually set aside a day to drive over from Jacksonville to visit you and rent a kayak!

I grow them in my aquarium refugium to filter water off nitrates and phosphates. It's legal to collect pods without roots. If you want to accelerate their growth, poke them halfway through foam so they float upright and anchor them to shore, pack packed in tight formation. They will help the ocean. And with our fl water problem, it is a big help. Most pods don't make it to shore in the right position and just sink and rot so it is nice to give them a chance

Stopping urban sprawl would be a dream come true. Mangrove forests are being cleared at a rate here in the Americas faster than the tropical rainforests (source WWF). Unfortunately the "ruling class" (politicians and big dollar business) only care about booming population growth and new development.

Hi Marty, many years ago I commented on your channel that "one" of the reasons I was attracted to your videos was because as an Environmental Engineer I appreciated the fact that you picked-up garbage on your kayak outings. Now this wonderful awesome video on mangroves! Nice Job. My favorite plant in the world. I once told my wife that after we retire we could not leave Florida because I need to be close to mangroves. My Department has a mangrove replenishment program that has been very successful. They also do coral reef restoration. Hope to meet you one day and talk environmental shit! Love what you're doing. Can you do a video where you fish off of the old red kayak, PLEASE!

Thanks for the mangrove info. When I was at your place this last February I rented one of your kayaks and took it thru that tunnel you showed. The tide was a little lower but I did manage to get back to the mud hole. Do you remember how messy the kayak was when I brought it back, bunch of small branches and leaves and mud and dirt? Great experience. Will be back again to rent this next year.
