I like watching your videos. Back east is so different from what we do in the Arizona desert. I’d be clueless in the mud, and I would’t know what to do without 40 million cactus to avoid. It’s cool to see that the camaraderie is the same though, with a high fun factor. 👍. Looks like a fun place to ride 😎

Many rocks and roots in the northeast, but no cacti! The camaraderie is a big part of the fun, and riding with the crew has helped me get get better. Is the weekend here yet??

Talk about delayed gratification! I hope you get your chance. A friend is riding a ‘22 and says it turns better and is lighter than my ‘17. So you will be in for quite a treat when you make it home.

@@eddielawsonjr.8705 Ya, it has been rough, I live in TN where the best riding is but have to suffer the Michigan winter so I have a whole host of bikes that are sitting. When I ordered the Beta I had them change out the oil pump gear to a metal unit and added a larger gas tank, seat concepts seat and some protection gear so it is ready to roll. Love your vids, they have been my vicarious thrill as I suffer with no riding opportunities! Keep em coming please.....;-)

I started off on a dual sport, then went full offroad / single track only for past 6 years. But now went back to DS mainly cuz I got sick of being limited to trails, and the people on them. I have a mint KDX and a heavy modded KLX, will be selling the KDX. After years of single track skills I can single track the KLX no problem now.

Battery: It could be a bad BMS board. This happened to a new Lithium MotoBatt I bought through my dealer, and got a new one through warranty. It wouldn't charge, and went dead during a short storage (1 month). Tried to charge it but it was dead. It's been three years since then and it starts every Spring after 3 months of storage. You should always take gas early or twice. I guess you know now. Good that your buds have your back. And you already know you should know your general fuel economy. Just doin the math at a gas stop. Did the ride organizers not provide the route sheets for the Turkey Run? Do you use a route sheet holder? It's a pain in the xxx to put it together but super handy for mileage to gas, bails, turns during very long road sections, and also getting back on course if you miss a turn. If you haven't already done it, getting the suspension tuned for your riding ability, bike, trails, is worth $1000 easy. Nothing like riding a bike that eats trail trash instead of deflecting. I have a 2017 Xtrainer, so I know the journey to good suspension takes a while 😁. Don't know what tire/tube setup your run. But if your not hardcore, TUBLISS is the way to go. 4-8 psi rear, and 10-12 psi front. Perfect for Turkey Runs. Climb anything you can keep the bike pointed up. I am I the same learning curve as you, trying to really dial up the speed, wondering how the heck are these guys so fast through the woods. After all the tech items are checked off, it's really about the rider and technique. Can't learn anything trying to follow a fast guy, they are gone in too little time for me to learn anything either.

All great tips! Thank you. Especially the gas. Thought for sure I had miles to go, but missed the end by about two miles.

@ow-my-achilles11062 жыл бұрын
@@eddielawsonjr.8705 Ouch that's cutting it too close. My tank MIGHT go 72 miles under ideal conditions, but I take fuel at 30-40 miles on Turkey Runs longer than 60 miles anyway. I would hate to push or get towed through tech terrain.
@eddielawsonjr.87052 жыл бұрын
I hear you. The second gas stop was at 60 miles or so, which I used to make quite easily before I started twisting it to the stop! Now I know better 😁

I’m sworn to secrecy! Trails are incredible. Also seems like all of this will be developed into commercial and residential before too long. So each ride feels a little wistful.
@billsharko30072 жыл бұрын
About how many miles are you getting to a gallon of gas? Most of my rides are 60 to a 100 miles of dual track woods roads wondering if the 390 would go that far on a tank?
@eddielawsonjr.87052 жыл бұрын
Good question - never had an issue with gas before, and we’ve done some long rides. I was holding it wfo a lot, which is not the path to high mileage. If I were doing 100 miles, I’d get the larger tank so I didn’t have to worry. The hare scramble guys (AA) use the big tank, one less gas stop I guess.

Nice to see what trails are like on the other coast. As for the guys passing you, as long as they gave you a beep or a horn, they seems like normal passes. I want to know if the battery was bad or if there was another problem?

Thanks - we never did figure out the battery issue. I put it on a charger when I got home, and I’ve been using it since then. ??? Even for a race in Florida on the latest video. The leading theory is cold weather, but seems odd as it would have been charging the whole ride.

Eddie, if you would please. Just a few questions. I know you have a lot of experience with the Xtrainer and 390rr-s. One of them is going to be my next trail/enduro bike. I live in Massachusetts and know of guys that have plated the xtrainer. So as far as that goes it could be one or the other. I would like to see someone make a video comparing those two bikes. Especially if that someone was you. How does the two bikes compare or differ in power? Does one feel more Nimble than the other on the trails? Which one do you prefer? And why?

cant expect a faster rider to ride behind you if there is a clear safe pass, if they run you off the trail that's another thing, but those passes looked fine
@eddielawsonjr.8705 Жыл бұрын
Whoa- would never ask a faster rider to skip a safe pass, even a close one is fine. Clicking handlebars or making contact seems unnecessary at my level of racing, on the other hand.

I think it was about 70 miles of really flogging it on the trails - some road sections - when I ran out. Keep in mind, we’re dealing with me, sort of an idiot. So was it completely full when I set out? Probably. In any case, I now have the larger tank and … not worried.

You getting many flame outs? Try removing the charcoal vapour canister and the gas cap overflow hose (replace it with a stubby and valve) You can plug the vacuum hose going into the engine case as well
@eddielawsonjr.8705 Жыл бұрын
Thank you - flame outs reduced but could always be better. What does plugging the vacuum hose do/how does it help?
@russpaton8877 Жыл бұрын
@eddielawsonjr.8705 The gas cap vent hose and the engine vacuum line both go to the charcoal canister plugging the line prevents a vacuum leak and keeps things clean. What it does engine wise not sure exactly but Beta dealer and others advised and zero flame outs since
