Apparently the Shadow Seeker Skills of Winona also let her turn Roses into Respawn Points, she can somehow cross gaps, and she can choose to go to any wormhole via any other wormhole. Stingers auto-stack like rot and stuff, Malbatross' attack range, speed, and force are reduced, lune trees regrow according to the Moon Phase now, etc., etc. Read the post ya numpties, this Update is too bulky. That ability to jump in a wormhole and choose your exit sounds absolutely busted. She's got like Budget Wortox Teleportation now and can zip around pretty much any part of the map from a single point and if you're lucky, there might be a wormhole close enough to lunar that you can Porta-sol to it, effectively giving Winona full map access like Wortox, only she doesn't need souls to do it. Merm stuff seems outta nowhere and random AF, though the wetness perks (aside from armor) seem like a good fit for Wurt. Now the Winona stuff on the other hand fits PERFECTLY.

Wurt main here! I have many thoughts: I have no idea why they went for mosquitos as a whole path for Wurt? Like, she already has affinity with Merms, and Frogs, as well as not being attacked by Catcoons unlike other monster characters (that doesn't really count tho). She doesn't need Mosquitos and it feels like they leaned REALLY hard into that for some reason. Other than that, there's some other things that I want to address with it. Sanity gain when wet is USELESS for Wurt, full stop. Wurt should never be worried about sanity to begin with, just hold a freaking fish. Armor when wet is whatever, I can't see myself carrying water balloons to make use of that. Not freezing to death when wet is actually a very nice boon, freezing is her biggest threat during spring because she's immune to literally everything else that season throws at you. I'm happy to see the global buffs relating to the merm king, that's the sort of stuff that feels exactly right for Wurt! Again, I just want to see more of that. Let us build out our army, strengthen them, and more easily command them/the battlefield as a whole. And please for the love of god give us a way to recall all merm guards following us so that they stop picking fights with an entire forest of spiders.

Also please fix wetness rotting our pocket fish. Fish live in water; getting wet should make them last _longer_ not shorter!!

Catcoons are friendly to Wurt because she *isn't* a monster! Merms aren't monsters, they're just hostile towards pigs (and players).

i think wurt lunar and shadow perks are very interesting but not delving more into merm society is a weird choice by klei ,hopefully they will hear the community

as a wurt main, I feel a little bit conflicted. About the mosquitos, it's kinda wierd. Make mosquitos neutral when held is kinda underwhelming as you can easily outrun them in the swamp or even with just a walking cane, the mosquito bomb is maybe okay for distractions and the like but seems rather average, can't say I see myself using that. The fertilizer is a joke, wurt can easily live just from kelp and/or stone fruit even in multiplayer survival. The healing stinger is rather nice and I like it to be honest, it's rather cool conceptually and I do think i'll use it a lot, though it's kinda weak (but easily accessible so you could argue it averages out to be good). The water skills are... fine? average - below average honestly. To restore some sanity over time when wet isn't that needed to be honest, a fish can usually take care of all small sanity loses and the numbers are too low for combatting any major sanity losses. The temperature thing is a blessing, love it. Being cold is the only thing that stops me from not wearing any special clothing during spring, though I think it makes much more sense to put it at the start of the branch as you wouldn't want to be wet unless you have that skill. The hp regenrative skills are just kinda bad. Barely anything. I can just put some merm houses near a pond and i'll get as much mosquito sacks for healing as I need. The skills for making wetness armor are fine in my opinion. Makes me much more convinced to use the ice cube during summer, and generally speaking I can get as much mosquitos sacks as I want and use it for either extra armor or healing. This skill does prove though that the idea the developer's had in mind wasn't for the sanity and hp to aid during combat, but to heal from small damages and sanity losses. but wurt has easy access to mosquito sacks if you base in the swamp and she gains sanity from holding fish, which makes the skills unneccesary. The skill to make merms respawn faster might come handy in winter (If i remember correctly they take longer to respawn during winter, though it might be just hand - made merm houses). Really depends on numbers though. Other than that it's meh. Other players moving faster in swamp isn't that good. Usually in public servers people at most travell through the swamp or at most stay at the swamp base for a night. Maybe with local servers with friends it'd be useful, but all of it is mitigated by beefalos anyways. Moving faster through the swamp is nice, but definitely not nice enough for an insight point. The skills to boost the king's hunger and lower the hunger drain are kinda nice i guess. Though at most you'd need to have just one of them. Merm king is easily fed by kelp, stone fruit (and if you planted above average trees then figs too, espeicially with the fig dishes being buffed). The king's quest skills are really cool and I love it. The rhyming riddles within the skills are rather cool and cute. It's both useful and a cool concept (if a dst dev happens to read this, great job on that one). If the multitools thing allows the merms to dig out the tree stumps then I'd really like that. For them to do jobs faster is fine, I guess but isn't that much needed. Really a question of are they just faster or do the tools expand the merm's capabillities. The skill for getting merm guards armor is quite neat. I like it. Kinda depends on the armor they get but it seems rather nice. Merm guards withdrawing with combat is hardly needed. They respawn quickly especially with the new skill to make them respawn faster. Maybe it works nice with the whole healing thing. The lunar and shadow affinities are kind cool i guess but the shadow affinity seems much much better. Cool design for the lunar affinity though. Something I do like about the skilltree is that it seems to make wurt less a fighter and more a character to support the army, though just a little as the only thing that changes this i wurt's capabillity to heal merms, which does go well with the merm guards withdrawing. overall: a bit dissapointed from the amphibious side of things. would love if there was a skill to swim in shallow water, even for a short time, or maybe for wurt to make the boat move forward by swimming and holding onto it. Depending on the details, the merm society branch is between meh and kinda fine. the swamp master stuff is kinda bad, it's just mosquitos and giving other players a small speed boost on swamp turf. would love if wurt would have something with the tentacles, as they were essentially left out but they are a rather big part of the swamp. maybe to be able to make tentacle spikes or to upgrade tentacle spikes or something like that. Maybe even being able to sheer the big tentacles underground for tentacle spots. the merm king branch is rather nice honestly, thoughg i'd rather have a skill to be able to feed the merm king automatically somehow: maybe a special chest or if we really wanna get fancy then a chest and merm servants that pick food from the chest/fridge and give it to the merm king. Could be worse, could be much better. Currently in a scale of 1-10 it's 5, maybe a 6.

Upgrading tentacle spikes would be so nice 😭😭😭 Maybe give the tentacles more range by mixing it with a bullkelp? and it also adds 10 more attack?

​@@radudancoroian5169 Skilltrees in general were a very controversial addition, and there's no shortage of different opinions on where they went wrong, what they did right, why they shouldn't even exist, etc etc... The chill people in the community will always be buried under complaints, that's how it is for every game. Play the character you want however you want, as long as you aren't actively annoying or griefing others. (I personally agree that some skill tree perks are tone-deaf and more bloat than usable content, and you can feel free to completely disregard that opinion, like with anything else)

@@anmspafan7855 what is frustraiting is to see a lot of this ppl like the guy of this Chanel that goes on tirades on why specific perks that frenkly are not very consequencial somehow break the game or ruins the experience for them and is absurd at some point. With so many competitive games dst seem to be focused on the casual audience that can benefic even from the more "bloat" side of the skill tree. The game is really chsrming but im afraid all this surface negativity is all some ppl hear about the game.

It's a solid start which means with a couple weeks of tweaks and refinements we should be pretty good. I fear how many of the Skills are redundant and just "This is not 5% MORE than the previous 5% boost" though. I also don't think she should have Wagstaff Affinities considering she literally infiltrated his factory to spy on him and track down not only her Sister but the rest of the missing Survivors.

To be fair it's hard to judge because 80% of it crashes the game. Still, there are a lot of Insight Points being wasted until the good stuff actually comes into play...

They should make it so that allies get Wurt's swamp vision to make that one skill more worth getting, because speed on marsh turf is very specific but it's mainly Wurt who lives in the swamp, unless she puts swamp turf near base just to set up merm guards but even then non Wurts probably wouldn't have much use to go into marsh turf other than for reeds which by that point Wurt can fetch

@@TheBeard777 generally speaking, it looks good in some places and bad in others. the king quest is a phenomenal idea and I love it, and wetness as armor and merm armories are rather cool. the main problems i have are the mosquitos and some of the wet things.

All in all I’m happy that my favorite fish child is getting a skill tree, sure it’s kinda shite at the moment and hopefully they revamp it into something better. Crossing my fingers for them to add the Fishermerm to the game along with other variations and Merm structures.

I really enjoy making farms as Winona and was always waiting for any buffs to her kit, but I think these changes are a bit too much it just gives her a bunch of random stuff that have hardly any value to other people. I really liked Don't Starve for how hard it was and when resources where scarce it was nice to do a little bit of micro. These buffs just take away the element of having to adapt and rely on other players, because you simply have everything you could ever need in your kit.

There's a bunch of characters that can completely rely on themselves. Imo it's simply weird that some characters are heavily underpowered when alone, because anyone benefits an extra player lol, including those self-reliant chars.

Ah! Someone is beginning to see the Light! These last two years have been nothing but bloat and fluff, which was cool at first but not it's just sad to see. I couldn't help but shake my head and laugh at this update while filming it.

you said it as if you get 99 skillpoints to apply on day 1. you still have to micro manage resources. lets be honest when you managed to get to year 2 (WITHOUT ALL the skills), then you will manage every other year too (even without a skilltree). so i dont really see that point (of course they are stronger and that makes things easier overall, even in the lategame.... but the resources, specifically, are effected the least). and, i personally, think that "These buffs just take away the element of having to adapt and rely on other players" is something positiv for me (for the weaker characters. so you can enjoy them when playing solo too and, as you said DOESNT rely on other players). while i also think that you have to adapt, (almost) just as much as before. so its not even a thing. BUT that is just my opinion and i can also see how some player do not like these changes. in the end its all about personal preferences, i guess. so good for me that i like, most of, the skilltrees and i think its a great addition. actually the sole reason why me and my friends started to play DST again ^^

@@isdochegal3576 Yeah but once you get all skill points once you will have them for eternity. The thing I don't really like about skill tress is that they add too much stuff with the reason that you will have to spend some time playing even tough you need to play just once.

@@okiskar hm.. i only played on one (private) server since the skilltrees came out. do the skillpoints stay? so if i were to open a new server, would my char still be "lvled"? because that would suck. i hope you have to get them seperatly on ever server/char.

This update seems actually fun. I have a Wurt wirld I haven't played in a while as I kind of got bored and just went back to my WX mega base world. This gives me a good reason to go back to Wurt. I've also still not fought the lunar werepig boss as I didn't feel like making a whole new world for him so I'm still hoping they fix whatever retrofitting problems exist with it.

Tbh I like a lot of the IDEAS for the skill tree, Especially for wurt. I don't think either skill tree is really bad per se, However, I do have a few tweaks I'd recommend and really hope they add in. Make merms on par with maxwell's shadows, If you are not only building the merm houses but also outfitting them with another building (Toolshed) just to allow them to dig up stumps..... They should be bringing the loot back to you and chopping the trees/rocks faster than maxwells servants, Which he has access to at the start of the game without any skill points. Also make it so the upgraded version of the shoddy toolshed's tools straight up don't break! I like the mosquito idea's but the friendly mosquito item should allow you to straight up pick them up while also making the mosquitos friendly to all merms currently following you. Making them friendly to all merms worldwide would actually be a nerf due to getting rid of passive mosquito farms. Mosquitos in the sac should get some kind of buff, A kind of "Swamp fever" debuff they can apply on enemies or something cause mosquito AI/DMG is just terrible and until that gets fixed there isn't much reason to use mosquito bombs even if they become super cheap to craft. Also buff the bomb damage and make it so it doesn't damage mosquitos so it's worth spamming. The fertilizzer is... bad just cause of the nitre component tbh, If it was super cheap to make then it would be ok. The healing shot should get buffed so when you heal 1 merm it heals in AOE and also applies a short frenzy effect, Causing merms to attack 20% faster for a while. All of her amphibious skills are actually fine tbh, Yeah yeah she can already regen so good already! Not every skill needs to be amazing and 2 sanity fillers are fine, Especially for boss fights. Her Health regen and second HP bar while she is wet is pretty cool and adds tons of tankiness to her (Not to mention the 25% extra armor from king with marble!) so those are all good imo. All the king skills are good, 25% armor, an infinite thulacite crown dodge every 10 seconds, and a chance to do triple dmg all for wurt and her merms are amazing. I do wish they made the items you gave the king unique and a bit harder to get, Would've loved a kind of mini-quest wurt had to go on by actually interacting with the king and you find some lost merm items to give him... In my dreams it would be a new mini area (pretty small) you can find in the ocean through whirlpools that only spawn during the kings quest. Would love to see some ancient merm civilization stuff! Finally.... I wish her affinities included a maw affinity, Especially since we got winona having a wagstaff one, Wurt with maw infinity could have something like she befriends merms more efficiently, She suffers a hunger debuff so her hunger drains faster, and maybe she includes a passive HP regen effect for both her and her merms? If possible I think it would be cool to have a central maw affinity that ends in either Shadow or Lunar and keep the current mudslingers. Simply cause I think they're both fine, though the shadow one might need a buff? (maybe make insanity shadows instead be merm shadows that help fight?) Having wurt able to go "Arise!" memes just sounds too funny to pass up.

@@TheBeard777 it's kinda buggy, but by scanning roses, the land close to a water source, and near a wormhole you can activate these effects. i don't really have much to say about it since it's really hard to actually get it working. some people on the klei forums have more details about it. also wurt mudslinger can build land on water, it's probably a bug

@@TheBeard777 if you use the rose goggles on a flower it makes it into a rose, and if you activate the dark portal thing, it turns into a fragile rose, which respawns you at the florid postern it seems

Im a Wurt main. It's the only character i ever play and have about 600 days on her so far. Here's what i think about these skill tree's after experimenting with them in beta for around 5 or so hours. Ill be going over each one so it'll be long. -The wetness perks are actually pretty interesting. An important thing to note is that rain is NOT necessary for these wetness perks to work. The Sanity/Health while wet is actually extremely useful earlygame. With half a little over half an oar you can get yourself 100% wet by failing at rowing which results in 44 health and 36 sanity. Earlygame that's extremely valuable since its so cheap. Half a log = 44 health and 36 sanity. By midgame though this is useless since better options exists by this point for instant sanity/health. 8/10 perks, would 100% run early and drop midgame. -The perk where rain doesn't make you cold anymore is a godsend. It makes Spring 100% fully ignorable which means Wurt can now truly treat every season as if its Autumn. I mean it already was due to scorchfish but this perk makes it so now you dont have to go fetch it. Cave Rain also is ignorable now. No need to go up and grab your scorchfish/Eyebrella now... But why is it locked behind 2 sanity perks?? If you want this mid/lategame you'd have to sacrifice 3 perk slots just to get the one you want. Klei make this the first in line. Nobody wants to spend 3 perk slots just to get 1 quality of life perk. 10/10 perk, just fix its ordering. -Wetness protection is interesting but your armor still takes full damage which makes it just a super large resource sink. starting at 100% wetness, 3 water balloons and 2 marble armor you can full tank a bearger taking 0 damage in the end. Interesting sure but why not just kite yknow? Odd perk. Not necessary, 3/10 perk, its useless but i give it points for being interesting. Mosquito crafts....... Klei for the love of god remove these and add merm variants. I tested all of these and they're all useless. -Fertilizzzer is essentially a noob trap for new Wurt players who still think farming is her best way to get food (hint: its actually her worst method of getting food). 0/10. -Blood Shot is a completely useless heal item since its single target and its minimal healing, only heals Merms for 23% of their hp and it takes time to apply. The fact that you now have shadow merms also completely invalidates Blood shot because your Merms effectively have 1220 hp now. Oh boy lemme just go walk up to my Merm mid combat and apply a 11% hp heal! If you wanna use it for yourself to heal overtime.... Just get jellybeans, its like bloodshot but faster to apply and heals about 6 times more. Wurt is one of if not the best Bee Queen killer in the constant, you can perma farm her with 0 difficulty. So yea Blood Shot is 100% Useless, 0/10 -Lil'Itchy is just... why? It takes up an item slot just to makes mosquito's neutral. Mosquitos were never a serious issue, just a nuisance. Its not worth getting one of these every 8 days just to make a mild inconvenience go away. Just make that base kit. 1/10, not fully useless but might as well be. -Skeeter Bombs are effectively only useful for distractions but why and when would you actually need a distraction? The only use i found while testing was lategame hound waves. 1 or 2 of these obliterate hound waves but why use this over other methods. Also useless and also never using this but atleast its fun to spam, 3/10. Mosquito crafts are effectively completely worthless and nobody wants these from what I've seen. Make this skill tree part dedicated to merm variants. Merm fishermen, Merm gatherers, Merm traders, anything, idc. Just please add merm variants/merm jobs. -Merm quests are exactly what i wished for. These global buffs are extremely cool....... and also EXTREMELY overpowered. Jesus. 20 Merms with no armory btw, can now fully take out 3 beargers at the same time and still have a couple of them left after. Funniest part too is that the Marble Armor quest was bugged on my world and didn't work so there'd be even more left over if it wasn't for the bug. These dudes are absolute fuckin MONSTERS now. I ran a test versus Celestial Champion who use to be Wurt's hardest boss fight before the changes. It was still possible for Merm guards to solo CC before the skill tree with 80 or so merms and some strategy but with this new skill tree you just need half of that aka 40 merms (Shadow Aligned) and you can BRUTE FORCE it, no strategy needed and defeat all 3 phases and STILL have 20 or so shadow merms left over...... And remember the marble armor quest was bugged and i put no armory on these merms....... Wurt's hardest boss fight just became a joke 💀 -Merm King hunger bar and decrease hunger depletion is just so nice. it now takes 15 days for him to start starving opposed to 8. It also works in the caves so no need for 2 kings now. I adore these perks because it minimalizes some of Wurt's maintenance. Wurt has a lot of things to keep up with if she wanted to run at peak strength and this GREATLY helps reduce those chores. -Merm Toolshed. Again this is very cool. Its exactly the kinda stuff i wanted. It makes Merms feel like a civilized society. You can have dedicated Merm workers now which is very cool. 9/10 -Merm Armory. Also extremely cool and is exactly what i wanted. Same reason as before. Makes Merms feel like an actual civilization. 8/10 -Communal feeders. Useless for practical reasons but it is a cool decoration piece that helps Merms feel like a society. For that reason alone i give it a 6/10. -Shadow Aligned perks. Extremely strong. It basically multiplies how long your merms last by 2. As if they have 1220 HP. This is extremely nice because the Merm King Quests function best on long lasting Merms. The longer they last the more dodges they can get in and the more the armor actually matters. 10/10 -Lunar Aligned perk. Straight up just a worse version of her shadow aligned perks in every way possible. In no test i ran where Lunar merms superior to Shadow merms. Not vs normal mobs, not vs planar mobs, not vs lunar mobs and not vs shadow mobs. They always performed significantly worse than Shadow Merms. Atleast they look cool and sort of count as a merm variant so, 7/10. -Lunar Mudslinger. Transforming all merms into the planar variants all at once and turning a chunk of the earth into marsh is just really satisfying. Also turns the area into a lunar area meaning sanity is flipped which is very helpful vs certain bosses who gut your sanity.. Not sure if this is a bug but the lunar marsh turf lasts infinitely for me and its unremovable. Definitely should not be a thing. Overtime your world would just turn into lunar marsh if you kept using this thing. Assuming that parts a bug and not intended this is a 9/10. If its not a bug then it'll just slowly corrupt your world overtime, 2/10, just use moon shards and pure brilliance. -Shadow Mudslinger. Spawns little shadow tentacles for extra damage. Doesn't transform shadow merms into their shadow variants though so no cool transformation like the Lunar Mudslinger which reduces its score. Also the shadow tentacles didn't work for me so its like the 6th bug I've encountered so far, but i imagine its very cool so 8/10. All in all Wurt's skill tree is a 7.5/10 imo, i like it a lot but could be better. Removing mosquito crafts and adding Merm variants and Merm jobs would make this a 10/10. If they want they can keep the mosquito crafts and make them base kit since nobody's gonna use em anyways. It'll just be there to look pretty incase anyone wants to mess around with 200 mosquito bombs. Oh and swap around the position of the sanity when wet perks around with the no coldness when wet perk in the skill tree for QoL.

Appreciate the time and effort put forth her to discuss a favorite of yours! For me it all comes down to something you said at the end, "... and make them base kit...". That is one of, if not the biggest flaw of Skill Trees to me as a lot of Winona's and Wurt's are making me question how this wasn't already implemented in the first place. Plus, I believe both of their Trees are the worst we've seen lore-wise with no connection to The Gnaw for Wurt and Winona being far too comfortable siding with the man she literally went undercover for to expose his potential schemes.

​@@TheBeard777 Personally i just want the really small and/or only for fun and/or useless perks to be base kit. Mosquito perks for example have no business taking up 3 perk slots. Other things that actually change the character i would prefer as a skill tree perk. I like having to choose between separate playstyles. It feels like too much to just grant a character like 20 separate abilities as part of their base kit. Especially when characters back during early days really only had like 3 abilities max. Something tying to the gnaw would be pretty cool for Wurt ngl. That's a really good idea. Not sure how it'd be implemented but very cool nonetheless..... wait i might've just gotten a really sick idea for the gnaw. Ok what if Klei made a gnaw shrine that'd connect the gnaw to the constant. This would then allow for merm variants to exist and actually make sense lore-wise since the Gnaw's presence means smarter merms. We already have Merm fishermen in Dont Starve Shipwrecked due to there being a Gnaw shrine in Shipwrecked. This all fits. The Gnaw shrine would need constant food to keep these merm variants functioning and if the food isn't supplied they revert back to basic merms. They could even add Gnaw shrine levels with each tier meaning smarter and smarter Merm variants. Klei please this is like a million dollar idea🙏

Hello Beard i post here beacause i know you and your community like speculate about DST lore; i was busy watching DST caracters shorts for 10000 times (yup they are great :p ) and i just noticed something, maybe i'm late and i'm sorry if it's the case : - On the Wigfrid short 'The Curtain Calls", she read a newspaper on what you can see on title "Tragedy on San Fransisco, devastating heartquake", so if we according that's newspaper is a daily (or a weekly, that's not a huge difference), and if we basing off informations provided by the new short "Interferences" who happend right after the earthquake, we can deduct Wigfrid was abduced by Maxwell on the Constant while Wagstaff was still young ! Oo It's mean a lot about chronology of DST and how time pass beacause Wigfrid didn't take a single wrinkle on the constant while Wagstaff grew old; so the Constant should be a place out of time and space (beacause no one know where is it and you new a special portal to get in). So this is a solid piece for said time is "freeze" on the constant, and maybe this is the final objective of Wagstaff, use the Constant for being immortal; like an other caracter, who actually succed to use the dark energy of the constant for get a spare a immortality and space travel, Wanda, wich is related to Wagstaff for me (maybe they worked together on Wanda's watches ? All i'm sure is Wanda's watches require nigmare fuel, and only Wagstaff or Mawxell could provide it for her) What du you think ? Stupid ramblings or interesting theory?

I am personally a fan of the Winona skill tree.... in that the first perk on the whole tree is the only one i really wanted. My problem with Winona is not being able to pick up the buildings and move them. So because that is the first perk in the tree, the rest is just extra.

The tellobrella has so much opportunity to be a lot of fun. I do hope klei buffs the range on it. I don't remember the range it had in hamlet but I remember it being very helpful. Also not sure if it is relevant at the size of range that it currently has, does standing on a tellepad means you can telloport to a different one like in hamlet

@@TheBeard777 Honestly I would not want merm variants. Wurt already is too similar to how Webber works and their general gameplan of "get allies and swarm enemies". Merm variants would way too heavily make her just even more like Webber and the focus on more wider friendships with other swamp creatures and deeper upgrade paths build more on what makes Wurt unique than what she borrows from Webber.

I suggested the idea on the forum: need to make that the catapults can be repaired, and not to rebuild them. Let them still break completely at 0 health, but if the boss walks over them, they will break like a Large Chest. They won't break down completely. They can be restored. And they will need to be repaired with a Trusty Tape. This will motivate the player to use catapults even in boss battles, as well as to wear a Trusty Tape at all times, rather than storing it at the base

I often watch your videos to help me fall asleep. They have been an effective tool for my insomnia, but it will take me a week to finish a video. Lol, hopefully the replays count as actual views. I have been looking forward to this video, because I am, unfortunately, a Winona main. I always appreciate your criticism, even when I dont agree, because it allows me to understand the other way people perceive the game and gaming as a whole. I lt just keeps my brain active I guess. Maxwell Wurt or Wurt Carter? I don't like Maxwell's shadow duelist, so now Wurt has useless shadow puppets. A lot of things they are adding look like they should just be a character update instead of a skill tree, the other doesn't even make sense. They should have stuck to character updates every once in awhile instead of forcing themselves to do a bunch all at once for every character.

This is my problem with the skill trees. Not all the characters benefit from them equally. Some need a complete rework, others just need a slight buff, and others don't need anything at all.

They really dug themselves into a massive hole by making Wurt's skilltree almost all combat focused. Now they have a big balance issue with merms which make Webber even more irrelevant, and the lack of utility in the merm kingdom makes it lose the appeal of a merm kingdom. Let merms do their own things like collecting grass for us without our input. I love the affinities and the armermy, but the dodging, damage increase and damage resistance are overkill.

Being neutral to mosquitoes shouldn't require a whole separate perk let alone another whole separate craft on top of that, she literally grew up in the Swamp and has been living in the Constant for years. You're telling me you're going to put one of your 15 valuable Insight Points into a skill that give others speed on marsh but only is the Wurt that has the skill is around? Even when these two Trees are the epitome of having too many dump skills that are redundant and a waste? Expanded turf is temporary, expensive, and meaningless when you already have an entire swamp at your disposal that can just be converted itself without waiting on the longest cooldown in the history of cooldowns. Wetness armor is the only noteworthy addition and even then it's next to meaningless against anything bigger than a spider. Guards and regular merms just got a major buff not too long ago with recruitment becoming beyond simple so to go about doing so again by gifting all these mechanics and tools is just overkill - and more bloat. King doesn't need three Skills to do two things, one of which he already got a buff for a few updates ago. I ain't crazy, I'm reasonable.

You guys are blinded by emotionally-charged nostalgia and love for game that, well, you love! But guess what? I don't, so I am fair on it. I enjoy and praise what I like and I point out the flaws because I do not blindly praise Klei or this franchise that I have seen every update for since Day 1. It kinda bugs me that the shadow merm skill lets them revive after death to keep fighting, and the lunar merm skill empowers them Reviving after death is a VERY lunar thing while I don't think shadows have EVER revived things, just strengthened them. It almost feels like they were swapped for some reason There's a lot wrong with Wurts skill tree, but even the basic themes of shadow and lunar are all screwed up and I don't get how it happened, did they forget that horror hounds and all 3 lunar rift bosses are revived corpses??

tbh all i wanted wurt skill tree to have was something to fix getting cold when wet because she is the character that's supposed to like water and temperature dropping made me wear eyebrella whenever it rained which made her wetness abilities irrelevant. About the other skills? I hope the mosquito pacifying bag works when dropped or gets reworked so that it's a passive without the need of an item. I like the buff to king's hunger, i often forget to feed him. And i hate that the mudslingers are so late game, i don't usually get to either fuelweaver or c.champion not mentioning getting even further so i'll probably never get to use them. Quest line is cool. But merms not fighting when low? That's a straight up nerf, they're supposed to be cheap fighters that have quick respawn time and drop fish which can be then traded for loot. Their sacrifices are what keeps the merm economy going. And getting buff in caves is a huge plus. Other than that it's not really interesting, they should focus more on giving the merms more things to do, they already fight very well.

hmm wurts skill tree seems to be all over the place... still interesting. as for Winonas skill tree very good overall imo and the spotlight with the heating could come handy during winter and the charlie immunity when going with the shadow path is very nice since that removes one danger to worry about... cant see squat if you dont got a light source tho lol

I feel like a good idea for wurt would be giving her more crafts when the king is built like for example giving her a throne that she sits on thats carried by 4 merms that she can speed through the map like a beeflo just for mobility reasons and also like a big merm thats about the size of the king but uses a tentacle spike spear and can slam the ground for a aoe spike attack that has a cannon on its back that shoots fish! Give her weapons/armour related to tentacle spikes and spots. Something cool they could do with mosquitoes is instead of that trash ass mosquitoe totem give her like a backpack that hoovers so she can go over terrain thats blocked by water or big gaps in the caves or just make her swim in shallow water. In order for that wetness armour perk to be useful they need wurt to gain wetness over time cause every merm is already wet all the time. Lastly the most simple one MORE MERM TYPES AND A ACTUAL FUNTIONING SOCIETY. Stuff like that is what I want for wurt!! What they added sucks and lacks any creativity😑

will say if wurt wasn't a child and had motives for picking lunar or shadow i think it would make more sense. For those perks however i think these are not the worse perks ever shadow merms make sense as wurt is a support character for her own faction so allowing merms to be even more tanky by respawning is a neat way of doing it. Also lunar makes some sense too if you look at lunar infected frogs merms being close to them would likely also get corrupted. Also the merm dish speeding up respawns is infact super useful for expanding the merm population as that's more fish a faster meaning more merms and more fish and if you just have the extra kelp from planting the stalks from lunar you might as well make use of it apart from eating

Here’s how i think the strident trident could be made better. After a specific amount of hits depending on the enemy, it makes them wet. I also feel like crab king needs adjustment to his loot table. Maybe he drops like a sunken chest or two as a bonus, he gives back more gems than you put in, maybe even something that lets you turn a sea stack into a wobster mound. Any addition would be better at this point because the only time people fight him is if they’re trying to do a challenge, or progress the game.

Yes but overcharging mechanics are not working right now therefore I couldn't show you how enlightened shards work. For now they literally offer unlimited power and that's it. And no, nightmare fuel is only generators, her Skills clearly state what works on what which should be noted.

@@TheBeard777 i love the concept of battle boats in dst using catapuls , rudder kits and nautopilot and i think im not the only one we need an update or perk with Mk II Catapults or gemerators catapults made of lunar and shadow items etc , winona is a wagstaff assistant also we need more items that help with the quality of life a sprinkler system prototype harvester bots and some augmentations for w78 we need more sinergy , stronger boats variants bigger boats, stronger boat armors , in my opinion some characters should have some sinergy crafting when near some characters that helps the other exemple winona making wormood a better serum for blooming

A little more ocean variance is great at the end of the day, and I'm all with you on some of Wurt's perks being really weird. But I actually really like Winona's perks making her a lot more viable as a character, so I can feel justified playing her nowadays. It's hard to say anything about Wurt, though, as I only recently even got her as a character and haven't played her because she just didn't look interesting.

Looks like im typing out a ton of yap that klei will probably never see but here we go! MERM VARIANTS!!!! Super merm combat focused variant Ability 1 Wurt gains the ability to eat meat, granted with less stats than other meat eaters Ability 2 When a king is alive you gain a 150% damage buff when using a spear (could be nerfed) Ability 3 You gain a 50% damage buff when fighting a pig (werepigs, nwp, swp all count) Ability 4 Pigs, mosquitos, and tentacles no longer fight you, you gain a tentacle bait crafting recipe (1x monster meat 1x stick) so you are still able to fight tentacles, you gain a buffed spear that looks like a trident (like striding trident without the throw but more damage) -------------- Bookworm merm Magic focued variant Ability 1 You can now read some of wickerbottoms books (the weaker ones) and gain a book crafting recipe which gives +1 sanity per second and -1 hunger per second (2x papyrus) Ability 2 When a king is alive you gain a 75% damage buffs to all wands (50% for weatherpain for sake of balance) and 50% more durability Ability 3 You can now use the frost and fire staffs' ability at will at the cost of 10 sanity per cast (could be increased) Ability 4 All nonphysical attacks that hit you (ex: klaus fire deer attack) deal 20% less damage (could be less) Ability 5 You gain the ability read every wickerbottom book and you can now craft mage merm huts (4x tentacle spots 4x cut stone 4x wood planks 1x fire staff) which makes ranged merms that attack from afar and stay behind regular warrior merms I could think of more but im tired, maybe you readers can expand on it in the replies, thanks for coming to my wurt skill tree ted talk

I’m guessing not because they wanted to make her more appealing to play. But I tend to only use her for the catapult. If we upgrade them using Winona’s skill tree, but then come in as a new character, will her catapults still be upgraded?

They were very adamant in keeping everything to her and her alone to prevent people from continuing to use her as a "Switch Character" so her gadgets are exclusive, yeah. And seeing as the upgrades are tied to Skills and the numbers they increase and NOT new machines and such I'm venturing to guess the upgrades will not persist if the Winona despawns. Does that make sense? Like, if she has the 5% more fire rate Skill she doesn't make a new machine for it, the existing ones just get it applied. So she a Winona isn't around to apply that skill I don't think the game will continue to apply it.

I was hoping for Wurt they will add an ability to swim in ocean with no boat or catch fish with bare hands in ponds. It would be nice to have different occupations for your merms with the ability to work far away from Wurt since Maxwell and Webber doesn't have anything like that. Current skilltree has some nice straight forward buffs worth to take if Klei decides not to change anything, like king hunger. Amphibian is meh but it provides some nice little utility. I can't deny that the skilltree feels kinda off and not that much fitting.

As a wurt main I wanted an update, but not like this! The wetness stuff is good except for the fact that it doesn't sound like they stopped the main problem wurt has when wet; which is that food in inventory still rots faster, and that still inexplicably includes fish for some reason. Y'know, the thing that lives in water and Wurt always carries in her main hotbar where things are affected by wetness rot? The rest is just a lot of weird semi-permanent passives that don't seem to align with the theming merms have had, and the astral/shadow ones are the worst. (Though it is nice that marsh bases are finally not a drawback for others in your team?) Also mosquito stuff is really weird.

This is what happens with the loop of Skill Tree Power Creep; Klei releases some craziness for one and has to top the next but in doing so they forget the baser instincts and needs of said characters as doing anything less would be seen as weak. Skill Trees should refine and expand upon existing wants and concerns before adding stuff to make every character stronger and stronger.

hard game to get into but if you got a bit of spare time it would be worth it it’s a survival game was gonna take a bit of learning but the community is mostly friendly and there are plenty of tutorials to get you started

Im trying to find ways to share my opinions but it all just circles back to how Winona’s skill tree is just wasted potential. Can’t wait for the wortox skill tree where he can pick up souls 20% faster after investing 8 skill points 😔

The best thing to me from this update is that they are finally now the "hey guys,i think we should fix our damn game" with the changes in crabking The worse part of the update for is that we will need to wait 6 months for an new update....for what?finally balancing the ocean and 2 skill trees for characters that have an fanbase of 7 players,while some characters are STARVING for an skill tree (also known as buff 2.0) like wanda (she can only teleport and have high damage,nothing more and its OBLITERATED by planar damage/defense,you have no room for error against these enemies,wortox who just heals and teleports by the cost of halved hunger (problaly the worst downside of all characters) and the secret government torture that is playing with walter At least winona and wurty skill trees are good,dont make sense,but are good

having consistent teleportation is an extremely good perk and carries wanda to her status of being extremely good, and her synergy with the void scythe is really overlooked in terms of planar damage this entire update was more of a big fanservice to the forums more than anything else lol

It really bugs me that you could just get attacked by pirate monkeys, with a chest full of a cane, a Houndius Shootius , and all that tulecite armor. I hope they work on making it less likely to fall.

The loot from those Pirate Chests is the same Loot Pool from all Sunken Chests. That good stuff is not guaranteed, I got multiple with basic drops.

Majority of chests I've opened or seen others find just had: moon glass, sea shells, cut stone, and maybe 1 ruins gem. Believe me, they're not that broken, and even if they do give an early walking cane it's not that game breaking to have a speed up before winter

Winona glass thingy is so random but sure Spawn rates increase for squids and malbatross is really good it was about time Rockjaws less damage is... Weird I mean why ? I think they were great threat as they were what's the point of making a scary enemy if your going to nerf his damage it's not like he was unfair so why did they go for that I wonder Crab king rework looks good but Jesus he needs a serious buff he just went from late game boss to just a mid game boss which is stupid, make his crabs immune to sleep and keep his geyser and ice attacks and he will be good, now that the claws no longer hold you the geysers will be fair anyway so why remove them ?

This Crab King is easier than the original. Socket the purple gems, Hold F, row, play a flute, don't fall off the ice, and hold F to win. Get one more person and you can kill him in one cycle.

And he was a late game boss... As I said all they need is to keep the geysers and ice attacks and he will be good and actually he will be very fun too cause you will have to dodge so many things at once

Here are my criticisms about Wurt's skill tree, which I dislike even though Wurt is my main: (PART 1) "Sated Sovereign" Perks To me, these perks make no sense. Feeding the king, which ties into the lore of The Gnaw and the endless hunger, was a central part of the merm lore. Having perks that magically reduce this aspect contradicts this concept without any clear reason, just because perks were added. Also, who is going to spend 3 skill points on such uninteresting perks compared to others? This is the same problem present in most skill trees. What Should Have Been Done I understand that constantly feeding the king can become tedious over time, so they could have implemented it differently. For example, this should have been integrated into the king's quest. Finding artifacts to strengthen the king could have made him more resistant to the influence of The Gnaw, similar to The Elder Pig in "The Gorge." This way, he would have needed to be fed less often. This would have addressed three problems: the waste of three skill points, the players' demand to reduce the king's upkeep cost, and the lore, as strengthening the king through artifacts can justify his reduced hunger. This could have been coupled with other perks related to artifacts, which would have been much more original than just reinforcing the merms... again. The King Quests Given that the merm lore revolves around their low intelligence due to The Gnaw, it would have been more appropriate for artifacts to make them smarter. The crown already does this, making it the most coherent of the three artifacts for Wurt. For the other two artifacts, more original and QoL ways to increase merm intelligence would have been much more suitable, such as the ability to set behaviors or patrol points (to better control the kingdom), the ability to dismiss merm followers so they stop following you, or the trident granting the ability to swim in shallow water to both Wurt and the merms. The three stages could have reduced the merm king's food upkeep, as mentioned earlier. All-Weather-Scales This talent was highly anticipated by the community because it should have been one of Wurt's default passives, without needing to spend any talent points. The character had advantages when wet but still suffered from the most problematic effect: the cold. These advantages were therefore mostly useful during the summer, unless special fish were caught. The problem with this talent is that you first have to spend two points on talents that I DO NOT WANT ("increases sanity when wet") to get the talent I do want because I believe Wurt should always have had this small advantage, and the talent could have strengthened it. In this case, I wouldn't have minded a talent offering a small bonus in addition to the default one. Lunar and Shadow Merms None of this makes sense to me. I was hoping for unique affinities for Wurt, such as allegiance to The Gnaw, and the opposite. Lunar merms could, at a stretch, justify a counter-influence to The Gnaw.

What I hate most about the skill trees is that they are not immersive. I think the idea of skill trees is a good one, but not the way they are implemented. Unlocking new abilities for characters is cool and adds variety to gameplay, but here’s what I don’t like: The Lack of Penalties The Skill Tree Menu I would have loved to see special in-game actions required to unlock new perks, similar to how survivors were unlocked in Don’t Starve 1, complete with special quotes! Imagine Maxwell gaining more power by collecting special artifacts from bosses or in-game, allowing him to unlock new perks. That would be truly amazing. For the "moon and shadow" affinities, it would have been great to have in-game altars where you could "pledge allegiance" after completing certain actions, which would come with trade-offs. For example, pigs are afraid of the dark, so characters who pledge allegiance to the shadow should become a corrupted version of themselves (which is possible since it’s in the lore), impacting their relationship with pigmen or others. This would also justify the perks remaining unlocked between games if the tasks to unlock them are challenging. The problem with the current skill tree mechanic is that there is no satisfaction in unlocking perks. The system of having to survive x days is dull... and suddenly, you magically unlock a new Insigt, BOOM, is... meh. Klei, there’s a good idea here, but please change how the perks are implemented. This would also allow a focus on adding new global content based on the skill trees, like new mini-bosses or other features. To unlock Woodie’s "treeguard feller" skill tree, a new Treeguard boss could have been added. This would also add content for other survivors. Defeating this boss could unlock perks like "deal more damage to treeguards" and "treeguard effigy" all at once.

@@xiivait It's odd that Wigfrid had locks on perks like: blow a beefalo horn, have enough songs on hand, use battle stingers; yet Wurt didn't get requirements like: Build enough merm houses, create the king's tapestry, etc. Why can first time Wurt players get perks for improving the king... before they've even learned what a merm king is? That's just poorly thought out, honestly

The thing that really needs to be changed is the 15 max points cap! This is ridiculous! There should be setting that would allow us to sellect how may skillpoint we want to use (just like we can set how much damage are we getting from different sources in game options). I really wish that would be an option ._. It feels wrong that we cant play with all the perks at one

Well klei currently have changed something in code and all those mods are currently not working properly ._. (I have checked workshop coments after throughout testing and I'm not rhe only one having those issues) So for now there is no way to play with all of the perks, and all one can do is to wait or learn how to mod (both options are not fun xD)

They should buff every boss. Every skill tree character is too overpowered, that can even demolish final bosses in seconds. I saw someone with Wurt skill tree destroying nightmare ancient reanimated skeleton(the final boss) in 15 seconds

I adore wurt and winonas skill tree,except the mosquito branch. Its so pointless and useless to dedicate a whole branch to a random mob who i forget exists 99% of the times even while living in the swamp. I get maybe tentacles but mosquitos???

I enjoy your content, even tho i feel like your attitude towards the skill trees is a bit too negative, but I know that not everyone can agree with things like this. I like winona's skill tree, but i do agree that wurts is a bit weird, and it's true that most of the points feel like filler, something random and uncreative to fill the gap until you get to the good ones, but i guess i love them anyways, it's fun seeing survivors with brand new abilities

I kinda wish Wurt had a skill that would make it so merms stay agressive even after they have a king. Wurt already has a hat she can make for those she wants to hang around her territory, and since it isn't an innate ability for Wurt, but a skill... you can just not pick it! Yeah, in short, let Wurt be rasist! maybe as something that's mutually exlusive with Swamp Pathfinder.
