Hello! Today I had some succesfully GPS rescue tests. I made some customisation in the code, and for better debug also changed the flight mode name to display each phase of the rescue mode, so I can look at OSD what is the current working phase and check heading and altitude and picture. I helps a lot for understanding and tuning it. On the lower right above coordinates is the flight mode. During manual or when I quickly turn off GPS rescue to not let it "land' by itself you can see AIR text. Instead of RESC you will se the following flight mode short names: IDLE: "REID" INITIALIZE: "REIT" ATTAIN_ALT: "REAA" CROSSTRACK: "RECT" APPROACH: "RELA" LANDING: "RELD" COMPLETE: "RECP" ABORT: "REAB" As things happen fast and I did not let it "LAND", you will probably only see REAA and RECT and RELA modes. I am happy with the result. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZTWl4hno8qYqtU p.s.: Unfortunately the testing at last flight (not shown here) ended with a crash and damage as there is still a bug around the code, I will investigate it next. I've got a REAB and it disarmed 50meter high and I lost control near me when I switched to rescue mode. This is not good if it is too close sanity check should just refuse flight mode change instead of going to failsafe DROP near me.... p.s.2: I found and other bug, if GPs signal lost during flight it resets home when it gets fix again during flight ahh so many bug, I will fix soon.

Ok, so I have had a GPS module in my cart for 2 weeks now and am not sure if I would like it or not. I see the benefits however my quads are all micros with exception of the Bfight 210 and that one doesn't have much room for something like this. I am about to start my first build and may consider if I can find the place for one as it would be quite useful in the event of a lose. THanks for doing this Albert. This video will come in handy.

If you do put the Longitude and Latitude on the OSD, then you can use your DVR to record your location when you loose video signal... Probably most useful if you loose radio and video at the same time...

gwizz fpv I'm sure you can input the gps latitude and longitude into google maps and get a basic idea on location, I'm pretty sure if there is an app it will be on the App Store or google play store.

For people new to this please note - it is NOT a system to land your quad back to you - it's been designed to rescue long range quads that either lose video (so you turn rescue mode on with the switch) or if you lose radio link you can set it as an automatic failsafe to try and bring the quad back to you Just saying coz I've seen a couple of videos of people saying their quads crashed next to or near them as they thought it would land - it's not designed for landing.

Yes, this is correct. You should take over the flying once you have RC link or video feed back. Also, this feature is still very new and isn't 100% fool proof!

Yes Albert - there is something called sanity check which I am still learning about - stops rescue mode working when the quad is right next to you (imagine what that would do !) People should really look into this before they decide to use it 👍 Ps love your channel 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌👍

I should add I think I'm right it's very much a case of user beware if you decide to install and use it - as you said it's still under development. I've got it on 2 quads and it works but there are quite a few other settings that you can adjust

I just used a cable tie and put it on the top plate. It was not a permanent setup since I am going to use it in something else later. You'll have to wait for that build video to come out. I haven't built it yet!

Hi everyone, understand that this module needs free uart, is it possible connect this module to fc omnibus, but all uarts there is used, maybe its possible connect to soft serrial port? Or smart audio to soft serial, and module to any uart?

No, you didn't follow the instructions correctly. You have to set it in the CLI and also do not check it in the Failsafe tab if you're using configurator before 10.5.1 because it will switch it to LAND instead of GPS-RESCUE. If you need to check, use the CLI. If using configurator 10.5.1, it should say GPS-RESCUE if set properly.

@@AlbertKimTV I'm using the older version, yes I noticed when I changed it to DROP I had to do the CLI input again for GPS Rescue, then when I have that set and saved I can just look at the FS page and it's back to LAND. It seems to say that when the RESCUE is set in CLI. I know what you are saying.

What am I doing wrong? When I activate the GPS switch under configuration in BF it will be always deactivated again after "save/reboot"!! I think I correctly connected it and set up the UART connection in BF/connections. Its an F3 FC, can it work?

one more question. (my gps came in today :-) I have the F4 omnibus pro 4 corner Flight Controller. Uart 6 is free but there is a note that says if needed i can remove a resistor to disable the Uart 6 inverter. Is that necessary to disable the inverter on Uart 6 for the GPS to work? . I have my unit up and running but I have a question. i have the same Hldrc ublox as you: How do you know when the GPS is locked? My unit does not have a light or leds and looking at the Lat/long in OSD the readings settle down after about 2 minutes (but never completely stop changing) but no indication that is is 'Locked'

Albert Kim I agree with you. In the same time I think we all are beginners in this when comes to BFlight, this a feature borrowed from INAV recently. My personal experience with RTH comes back in the days of APM, Pix4 and Ardupilot. However “sanity” never equals “disarming”the aircraft 100 meters away by default in my humble opinion. I noticed you turned OFF and that is why I asked :)

Started to think about this for my build and 2 quick questions. How long does it take for this module to get enough satellites to be able to fly? Saw some videos where it was taking a couple of minutes was curious. What bird did you mount it on and how did you mount it? Thanks for the info.

Some people are probably not using the M8N GPS I linked below. It takes me less than a minute to lock on and fly. I put this on a 5-inch quad with some zip ties.

You would have to setup telemetry. There are some videos out there on how to do with a Taranis. I don't know if it is possible with other radios. Also, if you need certain data only certain receivers work while others do not. Basically, this is a huge topic that there are hundreds of videos out there that cover it. I don't use telemetry because I hate how stupidly complicated it is and how unreliable it is. Even after you get it to work, it just sometimes stops working! LOL

Hi! I tried the rescue mode (beta 3.5.0 custom) now but first test was unsuccesfull, flew about 90degree to the left instead of home :( I will try to lower speed parameters it might help FC to get more time on smaller distance (100m) to figure out heading.

It probably means you armed before all sats were locked. The other possibility is something is wrong with the config somewhere. It's also possible the GPS isn't working too.

Rescue is a partial Return to Home. It doesn't really land it well. More like crash it at the end. You need to take over flying it once it is closer to you.

Presumably you can can set this as a fail-safe so that it returns when it runs out of range rather than just dropping.

For the Betaflight rescue to work you can only use F4 flight controllers. It doesn't work on F3's. Also this GPS should work with any FC that has an unused UART.

Personally lat&long in my osd DVR is my no one simply because if I'm out fat enough for a gps rescue I'm fat enough out for a real problem to drop me in a location I'll never find on my own. Just saying... 🍻cheers🥃
