One of my favorite Dylan tunes. Heard the original 100s of times... Must admit, I cried when Seeley got his heart broken and this started playing! Top notch cover. Perfect song and version of this tune for that particular Bones scene. Thanks for posting. This is golden. Love the drop D in this version.It's so deep and warm.Just like the tune. Big Smile.

It's clear some don't realize that lots of cover songs are created and bought solely for one purpose. It's still people enjoying a song, and lots of people connect a song to the moment when it was heard. You're not authentic just because you heard the original, nor does the music belong solely to you. Life isn't about being so uptight and high, especially if you're considering art. It's music.

I've had a couple news articles pop up recently, of Dylan talking about his favorite cover of his songs. It was Johnny Rivers cover of Positively 4th Street. He said Rivers nailed it. We all know Jimi Hendrix owned All Along the Watchtower. To the point it influenced how Dylan would perform it live there after. You have a very strong case and that would be just 2 pieces of evidence.

not vocally live...Jerry didnt have the vocals in later years but he did do some nice covers...of several Dylan songs. You are right. But in general most Dylan covers fall short for many reasons. A whole essay can be written on WHY the covers dont work you have to understand where Dylan comes from, has been, and thinks to interpret him. That's not a "Simple Twist of fate" :)

thumbs up if fuckin Bones DID NOT bring you here and you just love Bob Dylan and his renditions by other artists!!

I started playing guitar in 1977. Been a Dylan fan nearly 40 years. My 13 year old niece is playing Dylan, The Who, and The Beatles on guitar because she hears them on TV. Wouldn't you rather have the youngins be introduced to this great music via TV than to the drab junk music that is played on the radio these days?? (Rhetorical.) Drop the ego and think of all the NEW fans introduced to Dylan because of Bones. I've heard BUCKETS OF RAIN hundreds of times and I came on here because I heard this version on Bones and wanted to hear it again. So yeah...a TV show brought me here...does that negate 40 years of listening to Bob??? I think not.

mmm not that good cover. Very much, too much from our times. Without print and neutral in the way of singing like I suffer, but i'm really reserved about it too. Very flabby and kind of lame. There's nothing but the beauty of the original song on this cover. Anyone could have done that. Orton can be pretty emphatic sometimes, here she's just saying the words.
@Mogwair10 жыл бұрын
I honestly value your opinion! I mean being a musician like yourself, how could you be wrong? How could you find yourself here? Even your unimaginative review of something so flabby and lame is "Flabby & Lame" within itself! Please link/direct me to the art you perform so I can be as derogatory as you! Dude! I pity you! It's the shite you spew that makes me think what is the point! It's easy to pick holes without having one ounce of creativity and green of the auld envy! I won't go any further because the hole you have I couldn't dig much deeper for you! Misery and despair are your friends! Just remember the gratification you get to retort to this is a magnification of that! Kisses my empty friend! :D
@charlesrabany755910 жыл бұрын
Gaz Mogwair mmm wow. Even though I'm not really sure what I meant on this review 7 months ago, I still think it's a lazy cover if could temper my opinion... now that said, wow, you're some type of self-confident super hero commentary guy, aren't you...? I'll take your kisses nevertheless...

+Charles Rabany a better, certainly more lively version is on Beth Orton & M Ward Live At The Wireless (with a drummer named Jim, pretty sure he is Beth's drummer) from 2004 that I have been enjoying for years. This is the first time I've heard the studio version and I definitely prefer the Live At The Wireless version.

I guess you’ve never played the guitar and certainly not blues… please do yourself a favor and listen to other blues guitar classics. This IS a signature part of the style. If you’ve a practiced ear you’ll even know if they were bare fingered or used a slide and even if it was metal or glass. Really truly listen to music of all kinds, don’t be so dismissive and critical and your life will be greatly enriched.
