Big Tom Waits fan after hearing him live in 1975 (in Normal IL of all places). And unlike some Waits fans I rather enjoy hearing the interpretations of various covers. This one is especially fine.

My problem is most covers try to overly sweeten Tom's bitterness. This one has a nice balance though.

Ironically, this song, the whole album it's on and several of his other works were written for stage plays, so he explicitly wrote them for others to perform. Their purpose was to be sung by different artists. In some cases female performers. This one was written as a duet.
