As someone who lost both my parents,I felt that a lot of people decided not to reach out because of whatever excuse they made up in their mind about how I was possibly feeling. Everyone grieves differently and the best way to go about it is to let people know that you acknowledge their loss and that you are present for whatever they need.

Ppl just don’t know what to do. It’s a touchy tone. I’ve lost both parents. Ppl don’t say anything and the bereaved feel like nobody cares but ppl feel like I don’t want to bring up anything that triggers the person. Then if you do bring it up too much then the bereaved is like stop reminding me of my loss. So I feel TH like A LOT of GRACE has to be extended in these cases. And as the bereaved you have to be willing to help those who care navigate where you are at a given point in time.

I lost my mom at 15. I hated all the fuss. I hated people feeling sorry for me. I cant even remember who reached out and who didnt but when you're grown, I know its important to at least reach out so ask "please accept my condolences," or if you are closer to that person, ask if there is anything they need or you can do for them at that time. It's just the grown thing to do imo. I dont expect it from someone in their 20s in college but someone in their mid 30s and up shouldn't be at a loss as to what to say. Aint nothing creative to be said. The script is already written

My dad passed away. I got a lot of flowers and gift baskets which were well intentioned but flower die (just like my dad did) and the food baskets always took up a lot of space and didn’t have much I could actually eat in a timely manner. I think the folks that helped the most were folks who came over to cover meals so I didn’t have to worry about cooking or going out to eat. I had one friend I could really lean on but I had several other friends tell me they knew I would be okay eventually so they didn’t bother to check in (which kind of hurt because it felt like people were rushing me to get over my grief on their timeline). Ultimately, a therapist or grief counselor is really the only person that helped. It was nice to have that safe space - because family would always want me to pray the grief away or tell me I am so strong. It’s tough, no one knows how to be there for people in the right way.

Grief is tricky.....but support is needed, priceless and always appreciated (even if not in the moment). I'd rather reach out, send food, gifts, money, etc to a grieving friend than to fall back and reduce contact out of fear that it may overwhelm them. That can actually be more hurtful. Grief is FOREVER so whenever you reach out is meaningful. Simply sending love or a thinking of you text can mean the world to a griever days, weeks, months even years after their loved one has passed away. The worst thing friends can do is disappear out of their own discomfort and presumption of what may or may not annoy the friend as they grieve. Let them tell you they need space or ignore YOU as opposed to ignoring them at their most vulnerable time.

The Kim and Kroy divorce is about to get nasty like Kim's duck lips. As a person who lost both a daddy and a fiance back-to-back, there are two things that I've learned. First, never tell anyone that is grieving "Let me know if there's anything that I can do"; that is the worst. And second, never force anyone to talk. If that person wants to talk to you about anything and it doesn't have to make sense, they will talk when they are ready. As long as you lend a listening ear, that means more than the world; you don't have to say nothing. So, on the Jackie and Brooke thing: I understand both sides but Jackie is more wrong. As far as Johnathan Majors, I agree with you, Funky.
@ZebraLens Жыл бұрын
May I ask why I shouldn't say "If there is anything I can do......"? I ask because whenever I have said that, I genuinely mean it, whether its a listening ear, or if that person needs me to help make some calls to help put some things in order, or any other situation that may arise. I say this because I ask as a way to check up on the person but I also understand that you in particular would not want someone to do that. So in your case, for myself and others, what is the alternative when it comes to checking on someone? Is it best to not say anything at all? Thank you in advance for your insight. I truly want an understanding. 😊
@Klgray7373 Жыл бұрын
It’s irked me for years when people say “if there is anything you need let me know”. The better approach is have a plan. Ask what day can I send DoorDash for dinner. What’s your grocery list? Can I pick up your kids today? Here is a casserole. Keep the dish. Let me walk your dog. Etc etc etc. come with a plan to help. The talking part is both ways. Call the person randomly & say can I help you today. Let me know if that means talking or errands. Some of us shit down about talking but what someone to ASK us.

@@ZebraLens hello! I can only speak from my experience so others may have a different opinion. Grief brain is real. When a loved one dies, you are all over the place, mentally and emotionally. You have a million and two things to handle and it's all at the same time. When you tell someone “Let me know if there's anything that I can do”; it's giving them something else to do or remember. You are in la-la land, very spacy, and forgetful. It feels like another job that has been added on top of the two million things that need to be done. If you want to do something for them and you know that they will need some assistance, just do it. And trust me, you won't be in the way. I hope that adds some clarity!

Not only did it trigger me thinking about my own child who was close in age, it was overwhelming...I was anxious about every encounter. I found it easier to send a text from time to time just letting her know I am here and thinking of her, and I think she understood I didn't want to bog her down with meaningless chatter when all I wanted to communicate was my support. Sometimes its the little gestures that show I am no expert in what you going through, but as a friend I am front and center. When my mom died in 2016 people were texting asking questions, that became very overwhelming but the day of her burial service I appreciated the people that I called my friend came to support me. I was disappointed that I didn’t see the one that I called my best friend, so I get what Brooke is saying.

Exactly! so Funky being a friend who doesn't show up in a time of need, like a death, shows how true of a friend he is

Bethenny was being Bethenny. I've always admired her strategy around using the RHONY platform to launch her business. And then how she got a spinoff show around her wedding. She's messy as hell but she's right. One season she told told one of the women, while you're dripped in Louis' logo, I'm dripped in SkinnyGirl (paraphrasing) and building a brand. Those women were there for income, Bethany was there to create wealth, and she did.

Let me tell you, Bethany turned a bag into a billion. She really struggled and now the success she is seeing is tremendous compared to her peers. She really worked to promote her little skinny girl brand + other things and used her platform to promote her multiple businesses. I can give credit where credit is due.

@Funkey you are so right when I lost my husband I didn't want to talk to no one because I feel horrible and I didn't want anyone to comfort me. I just wanted to go through it and have my feelings so you are right about your feeling I feel the same way also about having a moment to yourself and then someone call and ignite the feeling that you weren't even thinking about at the moment. So thank you

100% agree on Jonathan Majors. Unfortunately, if a white girl was swapped out for somebody’s black daughter, most likely her family and friends would tell her to handle it privately or lie to protect him since “we gotta stick together” and “protect the bag”🙄

For those who don’t know Bethenny has been talking about lots of housewives news on her podcast EVEN though she said she’s tired of being associated with Bravo. She wanted attention
@armyofone13 Жыл бұрын
I agree. To semi quote Ramona, we love the underdog-come up story and Bravo bolstered that narrative and helped Bethenny’s platform. I loved her for years and even more so when she started her charity. But her HBO show gave me pause bc they edited her differently, for obvious reasons and I believe more realistically. It helped me realize she is way more than the one liners and high level funny stuff and in your face truth telling that Bravo made her image out to be. She is also emotionally abusive, unpredictable, and overly demanding. I get that she is a business woman but she is NOT someone I would want as a boss. The next thing I didn’t like was her making this big deal about Harry and Meghan-calling them hypocrites for taking over their media and telling them they need to go away while she was also announcing a housewives podcast after she too made similar sentiments about the franchise. Ppl were calling her out for her hypocrisy. Lastly, suing smaller platforms for covering her -again while she feels free to make her opinions known was the final straw. She’s a total hypocrite!!!!!

You hit the nail on the head with the grieving and being there. I lost both my parents as well and it becomes overwhelming with everyone checking in and bringing you rotisserie chickens 😂😂It’s so hard because everyone grieves differently and we don’t know how the person is telling. I felt that comment so much!

As a parent who lost a child, I discovered that most people either don't know what to say or say the wrong shit. So to keep from sounding insensitive, they stay away or wait until you reach out to them. When my cousin's son died, I texted her letting her know that I was there for her for whatever she needed but I wasn't calling her because she was already overwhelmed.
