The former star of "The Real Housewives of New York City" shared insights into their relationship on the latest episode of her "Just B with Bethenny Frankel" podcast. Frankel and Bernon reportedly parted ways around March after six years of dating.
"I went through a breakup. It was a personal journey," Frankel revealed. "I kept it to myself, processing it privately through therapy and self-reflection. I didn't feel compelled to explain it to anyone."
Frankel delved into her emotions upon learning of Bernon's new relationship with Aurora Culpo, describing her decision to end things with him as her own initiative. While she admitted the breakup was mutual, she emphasized feeling unsettled in the relationship.
"I wasn't content. Change was necessary," Frankel expressed. "The relationship faced challenges, and although it was not a matter of being dumped, I confronted my fears due to my past and issues of abandonment."
She continued: "I become apprehensive when someone I rely on and love undergoes change, but I knew it was the right decision in the end. I found peace and happiness. I thrived and survived."
However, three months later, Bernon was reportedly seen engaging romantically with Culpo, the sister of actress and model Olivia Culpo. Frankel described feeling devastated upon seeing extensive media coverage of their relationship, feeling as though she was intruding on someone else's romance.
Initially choosing not to comment on Bernon's new relationship as she focused on herself, Frankel lamented being portrayed in headlines as a heartbroken ex, stuck in a cycle of grief while witnessing his new relationship unfold.
"I started seeing headlines portraying me as the spurned ex, replaced by a younger woman," Frankel recounted. "It reinforced a narrative that he was a private person who had now found serious romance, meeting her family and children." Despite their brief whirlwind romance, Bernon and Culpo reportedly broke up after two months.
