It's more to do with the sheer number of bugs that exist in the Starfield modding systems. Starfield easily has the best modding potential of any Bethesda game to date. However, literally all of that potential is ruined by a large number of bugs and bad design decisions that make creating a working mod unnecessarily difficult. The worst bug so far in my opinion is the record limit bug in which the game just breaks if too many records (changes) are loaded. Currently, Starfield can't load nearly as many mods as any other Bethesda game and they seemingly have no interest in fixing this bug despite it affecting their DLC as well.

@@JrIcifyexactly. It's not like the games have gotten generationally more complex and intricate. Starfield is just a shitty version of skyrim/fallout 4 in space with slightly more updated visuals. But that's always their excuse. "Game development is so complicated now" no, it really isn't. They and many other companies have just fallen victim to corporate bureaucracy and gotten too big to function anymore. The big ship analogy comes to mind. By the time the ship sees an iceberg (a dead trend they were chasing for example) and they try to avoid it, it's too late. The ship is too large and slow to react quick enough. Todd is no longer the captain of the ship, he's the executive director of the ship so he no longer understands what is actually happening because there are just too many moving pieces. Like how many AAA studios that were the pedigree in the 2000s and 2010s still are? Bioware? Bethesda? Arkane? All of ubisoft. Blizzard. Activision. The list goes on and on. All fallen from grace, all driven by profits and upper management and no longer by passion. Sad times

I don't think Bethesda will ever redeem Starfield, it's just not a game that works well as a concept and the writing team at bethesda now is like made for babies. My interest with starfield died when I was doing a mission and it had me enter a system that had a resort planet. The intro quest was that there was a big unidentified ship in orbit and it was supposed to be a mystery since you can't even contact it. The planets local force tries to tell you not to board it and talk to them first. Of course this is an rpg, so I ignored them and went to investigate. Turns out it was an old colony ship from earth that had generations of people on board that set out to colonize that planet because earth was dying, so they wanted to colonize the planet, but humans were already there. The mission is to negotiate with the resort world owners and once you talk with them is when I lost hope for this game. The options that the game gives you are: A. Make the colonist become indentured servants to the rich resort owners B. Kill the colonist and blow up their ship C. Buy a grav drive and retrofit their ship, so that they can settle somewhere else As soon as I saw those were my options I ended the conversation and tried to take out the resort owners. I was so disappointed to find out they were invulnerable npcs. What did ever happen to player choice??? I completed the quest and the colonist went on to find a new home completely disregarding their entire mission and generations of sacrifice. I turned off the game because at that moment I knew nothing could salvage that.

At that point it would of been nice to pay off the debt myself and get them a ship out of there preferably to New Atlantis like how you can get Janet there by getting her debt wiped. There's also side missions that softlock all together and cannot progress further or it's so bugged it won't give a prompt. I thoroughly enjoy my time playing starfield but also agree at with people because of Bethesda and the issues the game has. They need to fix shit and give better player choice

That's pretty much what I've arrived at. It's painfully clear based on Bethesda's recent releases that they aren't capable of making Elder Scrolls 6 on the scale and quality that people are expecting now. Shit, let alone capture the magic they captured with Morrorwind--->Skyrim. Those years are over, the talent that made them are all retired and instead goobers with no talent flooded the industry and took their place. Cutting costs and releasing minimum-viable products is the meta for AAA now and it's clear Bethesda are fully on board with that. BUT just be glad we got to experience those earlier amazing games at all

The major difference between Starfield and Cyberpunk is although CP had a horrible release, they were mostly technical/hardware issues, the story, characters and the world stayed the same for the most part. Literally everything about Starfield is shit, the story, characters and world is boring and lifeless, and aside from the technical issues at launch for CP the game was still genuinely felt fun and the world had life to it. Starfield is soulless.

Cyberpunk was completely broken on launch setting an unprecedented policy for Sony to refund games. It was astoundingly detrimental to CD Projekt Red’s image. I still ended up nearly beating the game because the world & mechanics were fun despite it. Starfield just kinda does everything so average that nothing within the game stood out. I don’t see this game ever having that level of “redemption” that Cyberpunk had.

Starfield gave me the most overwhelming sense of "bland" I've ever felt in a game, not even exaggerating. The characters, story, locations... all of it was so unmemorable. The only thing I think about is how cool of an idea the Freestar Collective and Akila City could have been executed to be: space New Vegas. But yeah, the whole thing felt like playing a fever dream.

I didn't like Cyberpunk for core story reasons, but I admit I'm in a pretty small minority with that opinion. Basically, I thought the different beginnings that all coalesce into the same character were a false promise and wasted potential. Just make V a fixed character like Geralt since that's clearly what they wanted to do!

Heyo, just here to drop the formula. Step 1: Indie studio tries hard to deliver on what THEY believe is good Step 2: They deliver a good game and garner fame Step 3: Studio grows and becomes a company, switches from creating good games into making enough money to make games AND pay dividend. Step 4: management pushes for monetization practises. Yes. Gaming is being ruined, like many other things currently, by late stage capitalism.

It’s amazing how PatricianTV’s lie has become so perverse. Now everyone thinks they’re game devs who know better about game design, or rather, software design in general, because that’s what documentation is about. Anyone who knows anything about software documentation knows that a “design document” is dumb in modern development. It’s literally a single file, like a pdf or word doc. If you make a change to the design, then the entire file has to be remade and reshared. The industry standard for documentation on any large software project are in-house wikis like Confluence. But now youtubers and their dumb followers know better on software design than actual developers apparently.
