Remarkably, the single was recorded when she was 11. There's an interview with her on You Tube where she explains that she recorded it as an 11 year-old, it was re-recorded for release as a single when she was 13 - but there was a mix-up with the tapes and it was the original version which ended-up being released.

Vince Gill introduced LeAnn to the world, in person, at a country music award show. I've never seen him so excited and happy for anyone as he was for her. Of course, she sang Blue and got a standing ovation. Then Vince reminded her it was a school night and she needs to get her sleep. He was grinning ear to ear. The applause and ovation was thunderous! She still is stunning. You ought to hear her emulate Connie Francis - "Where The Boys Are." Your chill bumps will have chill bumps!

Beth, I live in Dallas, Texas and, although I didn't know Bill Mack personally, I knew many who did. You see, I came to Dallas in 1995 to take a radio job which, initially, was to be on the air from 7P-Midnight. In those early years, on the drive home, I would listen to Bill Mack on another station, 50,000 watt WBAP 820 AM, which, at night, could be heard throughout most of the lower 48 states. His show was "The Midnight Truckers' Radio Network", listened to by, well..... truckers all over the country during the wee hours. I remember listening shortly after this song first broke and hearing Bill talk about it on the radio. He was proud, as he should've been. I remember being chuffed about a good dude like Bill, a long working, regular guy from Texas, finally hitting the big time. I felt the same for LeeAnn who, by the way, grew up in Garland, Texas, just outside of Dallas. Unfortunately, Bill passed in 2020 at the age of 88. Oh, and I've said it before...I really appreciate the fact that you actually do research on the subjects of your reactions.

The most amazing thing about this song was how old school it was. The song was written in 1958 but she perfumed it so well no one really cared. The fact she was only 13 I think was a huge deal.

You may not have known about her unless you were born in the late to early 70s, being she is 42 years old. I knew of Cline being she was alive after I was born and my older brother would listen to her records. I also knew of Rines about this song that I bought the CD right away. Also, someone else had sung this song just not so young as LeAnn. I have heard this song by another woman before Rines, only LeAnn killed and own the song after she recorded it. To date Rines is just like she was in this clip friendly with her audience now. She mostly does small shows, plus she was as the Sun on the TV show 'Mask Singer'. I love listening to her only her cover songs not her original songs. Yes, she still has that voice.

This is NOT a thirteen year old LeAnn Rimes and the recording by the thirteen year old LeAnn Rimes was not the original recording of this song, it wasn't even the original "cover". The original was recorded in about 1958(?) by the song's composer Bill Mack but LeAnn's 1996 "cover" was his last Best Country Song Grammy (1997) award. Had she not tragically died in a plane crash, country music legend Patsy Cline had been planning to record this song as part of her next album. Because of that tragedy the world, and Bill Mack, had to wait another THIRTY THREE YEARS to hear what "Blue" most likely would have sounded like if Patsy had gotten her chance at it. That's how good LeAnn's version was.

She’s actually 11 in this recording. She was 13 when it was released. I recently saw an interview with LeAnn on KZbin, where she was talking about the release of “Blue”. She said her dad actually didn’t like “Blue”, and threw it in the trash. Leann was 10 at the time. She dug the song out of the garbage, learned it herself. By the time her dad returned home, she had already made the song her own by adding the yodel. Also, she said she recorded two versions of “Blue”. One when she was 11, and the other when she was 13. Leann said the wrong one was released. So, all these years the version we’ve been listening to is the one she recorded when she was 11. I’m from Tyler , TX where “Blue” was recorded at Rosewood Studios.
