I remember as a little kid, hearing this song on a Hardcassel and McCormack tv show episode. All I remember about that show, cuz I was so young, is a dude driving a red Ferrari type car on a winding road with this awesome bob segar song playing over it….even as a young 5-6 year old boy at the time, with literally no life experience, hit me with such an emotional response, everytime I hear this song I think of that moment 40 years ago…crazy!!!!

@@epistte He's better than Springsteen. Someone once pointed out that Seger wrote songs about being a working man, and embracing who you are. Brucie always wrote about running away because you hate who you are.

Bob Seger is one of the best. The man moved through several styles of music and pretty much owned the radio air waves from the late '70s through the '80s, hit after hit after hit. There just is no mediocre Seger song. IMO he's one of the great American lyricists and a great singer. Try the whole Live Bullet album, one of the best live albums ever. That's a lot of superlatives but he deserves it all.

Heard a gem of a story about Bob once, while travelling on a plane he started a conversation with a young 17 year old girl that hadn't been away from home much and was nervous and unsure if her mum was able to meet her at the airport on time. After landing Bob stayed with her until her mother turned up a few hours later. I think she may have been stuck in traffic. How cool is that, not thinking he was above helping someone when they needed it.

Beth, I only discovered your channel a little while ago, but I really enjoy it a lot now. Your reactions are so heartfelt and joyous, and you often point out something new in songs I have known for a long time. That female vocalist who rises above the others... Interesting you point that out. Whenever I heard this song as a kid in the late '70s, I always made a mental note of that voice. Having you mention it just made me smile that I also had that private observation so long ago.

Saw him at UNO Lakefront Arena (New Orleans) in the early 80s. I’ve been to some concerts-he was by far the best and most memorable of my life. He and the band just gave their all and came back for more, encore on top of encore. I don’t know how he did it all those years if most of his concerts were like this one. My late husband loved his song “Till It Shines” and so do I. It had a lot of meaning for the both of us. And my husband could’ve been his twin except DH had sailor blue eyes instead of brown, one fine-looking man-husband and Mr Seger:)
