The next line refers to something else, "....and points of her own sittin' way up high, well firm and high." I think that metaphor flew over heads. If you think about it, you'll get what Bob was singing about. 🙂

BOB SEGER! His songs hit me right in the heart every time. His career spanned multiple decades and genres, and he racked up a boatload of great hits along the way. In the early-mid eighties you couldn't turn the FM dial without finding at least one of his songs. Singer, songwriter, musician. IMO he's one of the all time great American lyricists, and one of my favorite musicians. Get ready, this is a deep gold mine.

Bob Seger has a superb voice, great story telling, awesome musician. As I understand it, this song is about an Italian girlfriend of a friend of Bob's. His friend left to serve in the military. While he was gone, she had a summer romance with Bob. After the friend returned, she married him. Arrggh! Short version of the song! Long version is so much better!

Bob Seger was known as a "Roots Rocker" which is an artist that looks back to rock's origins in folk, blues and country music. He is a wonderful of all of these genre's. I love his raspy singing voice. Take care....

If you listen to it all without interruption, you'll really get that this is NOT a song about teenage lust -- it's actually a song about the entire life cycle -- from youth to middle age to death -- but you really can't get the emotional impact if you break it up -- you have to really experience the transition from that first part of the song to the second -- ultimately it's about remembrance, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter of the whole life cycle (the Winter is only implicated, not stated) -- it's VERY DEEP, VERY CONTEMPLATIVE. Felt the lightning, and then waiting on the thunder -- that is about TIME as well -- yes, TIME is the main theme of this song. Genuine poetry.

The Drive-In was basically a party on wheels. I had a friend that had a pickup truck and on Drive-In night he had a sofa he would load into the back, and he had a kick ass stereo in his truck that gave great sound for the movies. We all sat on the sofa and watched the movies. You could bring something to drink/smoke, and it was always two movies each night. It was a social gathering and entertainment all in one. Some of the most fun times of my life were at Drive-Ins. We need to bring them back into popular usage again.

I remember hearing this song many times. Bob Seger has a great sound with his vibrato combined with his raspy voice. The timing of his reference to black hair and brown eyes. I’ve dated a couple of blonde girls, but I’ve dated more brunettes than blondes. I remember going to a few drive-in movies with my parents as a young kid anywhere from 4-6 years old. I remember those speakers, and a little food hut in the vicinity. I remember a joke from Steven Wright about drive-ins. He said he took a cab to a drive-in movie. It cost him $95.00.

Bob Seger has some of the best poetry and great stories. Points way up high, way up firm and high...great line. Many great songs. In the early 70's me and my girl went to the drive- in every Friday night and we both lost our virginity during the 2nd feature! A little awkward and working on our night moves. Didn't worry about anyone looking in the windows, they were always fogged up! Seger brings back great memories in many of his songs.

Love me some Bob Seger! So many great songs! Love this one for the look back at drive-ins and the fun we had back in the day. Then Bob does what he does best, turns it into a wistful remembrance of days gone by. The last part of the song always gets me when he sings "started hummin' a song from 1962, ain't it funny how the night moves, with August closin' in." Love his voice. I recommend Turn The Page, and We've Got Tonight, and Shame on The Moon for just a few if you haven't reacted to them yet.

I was never more alive! the 80's were magic and summertime in the 80's! Get on away form here!!!! MAGICAL! The other line "When you just don't seem to have as much to lose" I think is a great way to sum up a teenagers attitude! What did we have to lose in our minds?! Nothing so we took risks we were not afraid! We lived!!! Bob Segar is awesome!

Night Moves is a double entendre, talking about night moves in the back seat of car when you're young and then at the end reflecting on the night of life coming. The last time I went to a drive in theater was 1976. I remember it well. I was 28 and young. In the late 50s and early 60s you could take a car load of people into the drive in for one price. I believe a dollar. There were 2 older feature films and a cartoon. I think the video stores of the 80s and 90s and now the internet have all but killed drive in theaters.

Bob has written and performed an awful lot of great songs, but this is my favorite. You should check out some of his live songs from Live Bullet. It was the album that broke him nationally, recorded live on his home turf at Cobo Hall in Detroit. Turn the Page was his huge classic from that album, another slow ballady type of song. But he's just as known for his rockers, he's got an unreal rock and roll voice. Check out Katmandu from Live Bullet for a rocker, though Get Out of Denver and Nutbush City are great too, whole album was great. Of course he's got lots of great studio rockers too (eg Come to Poppa, The Fire Down Below, ...)
