I would really like to hear your thoughts on some of the classic Linkin Park stuff she performed on that first live stream, especially some of the heavier bits like One Step Closer and particularly Faint. A lot of people in the comments were...concerned...or perhaps a little smug (as in look at her, she can't sing) with some of her voice cracking. But after looking at some Dead Sara stuff, it seems to me like that's just how her voice works, with emotions and nerves piled on top. She certainly hasn't slowed down any on the recent live shows. Would really like a professional's opinion on it. Every other vocal expert I've seen on it has either done the studio version or the live of Emptiness Machine, which was the first song of the set with her fresh.

That sound comes from aretynoid activation, where the pharengial wall is brought forward to interact with the cartilages. That's why she can turn it off and on so smoothly, because it's a secondary sound in addition to the actual true fold phonation. It's also why the grit sounds so smooth and healthy, because it's extremely safe and sustainable. David Draiman uses a very similar technique, just with generally longer vowel shapes.
