Draiman was trained as a Cantor and has been a heavy metal singer for years. During this performance, he had the flu and was sitting on the stool because the production team thought he might fall over if he tried to stand during the performance. He said that he spent about three hours in the vocal booth working out how to sing this song. Paul Simon promoted this performance on his social media, which he has never done for any cover of one of his songs.

Respect to Draiman for going out there sick and sitting right in front of the timpani. That's hard enough if you're going to just scream the whole song, but for something that requires such dynamic range it flabbers all kinds of gast. What a monster performance.

David Draiman has one of the coolest voices in rock from the early 2000s. I got to see Disturbed in small auditorium and it was amazingly intimate and kicked ass! They took several 70/80s tunes and rocked them out. They did this one that was originally Simon and Garfunkel. They did Shout by Tears of Fears. And they did Land of Confusion by Genesis. The song is basically in 5 parts, 1st is just david and the piano, 2nd verse they add in the acoustic guitar, 3rd verse they add in the entire string section, 4rt those big drums, 5th david really adds in the power and distorion for the crescendo. Each time the lighting brings those instrucments in when, also each time David raises the power of his voice. Just amazing.

The second day of hiking, I had gone quite a ways in front of my buddies. So I pulled over for a cigarette break and found myself in complete and udder silence. I could hear the paper burning on my cigarette. After a few moments I could hear my heartbeat. A few moments after that I had slowed my breathing and heart rate. Finished my cigarette. And in the moments between breaths; I could hear the sound of silence. A perfectly still earth. 8 miles up a mountain. Snow covering everything in sight. No animals rustling.

The line is "people writing songs." He end on the high note, his eyebrows go up, and he opens tall and even a bit wide on the vowel - sAHngs. My only request is please react more to Morissette Amon. I think you have only reacted to her once (a capella version of Rise Up) and you have barely scratched the surface of her amazing talent. Happy New Year!

Great performance. Do check out the studio/video version. It's also worth a reaction. Would like to hear some Queensryche Take Hold of the Flame live from Tokyo 1984. You love this. All the reactors do. Geoff Tate is great (Rhyme intended).

I'm actually dying right now "That is a lot of tissue just waiting to be flapped" You have so many quotable lines that just kill me! I stumbled onto your channel recently and immediately knew that we should be friends! Also I absolutely love hearing your analysis of all music. More Dimash (Ogni Pietra or Tired Love of Swans) and Pentatonix would always be appreciated!

i have watched SOmany reaction videos… especially to this song… and I just now found you. You’re HILARIOUS plus far more educational than so many reactors. Glad i finally stumbled in here.

David Draiman was actually ill during this performance and it was autotuned against his wishes.

Ahhh!!! I thought I heard some pitch correction, in the first half especially. I’d love to hear him sing something else too. His storytelling is so good I’d probably be moved listening to him sing about toasters into a phone or something.

I too found this a very spiritual experience too. Wow, I don't have a poofteen of your vocal understanding, yet I was equally moved by this vocal performance. The orchestration and piano instrumental is absolutely fantastic! I absolutely love the way you talk about this arrangement and your personality should be bottled and served out to all the soul deprived people of this world! Keep up this great work, I love your commentary and beautiful personality! God bless U !

Definitely my favorite song and I’ve listened to it so many times and it never gets old or fails to move me

Draiman was still sick (and you can hear that there) during that performance. He didn't have a full control over his voice sounds, but he did handle it like a champ, still making a great performance. Simply compare to him singing in the official video song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2qnmGCdbNllopY I'm sure you'll notice a lot of differences there.

Love your videos! If you're down to listen to something special and different, you should check out Tyler Childers (I suggest the song Lady May, he has a really good live version here kzbin.info/www/bejne/qprae5Sao5KBqdE).

I became addicted after hearing Draiman's acapella version played in Gdańsk, town square, Poland mourning Paweł Adamowicz's voice silenced forever in 2019. From watching you weep analyzing Angelina Jordan's cover of Bohamian Rhapsody to hearing you fake growl, laugh hilariously, then growl again (which I replayed about 50 times 😂) I've learned SO much. Love your quirky intelligent reactions (and renditions) while teaching in a way I'm able to understand. The sirens and chihuahua are a bonus. As soon as I learn how to do it, you'll be my first Patreon - KZbin channel, reaction lady person...uh - Fairy. Thank you. 🎶💜

I never imagined I would absorb so much information about vocal distortion and all that jazz inside 15 minutes, but apparently people have new experiences daily, so.. respect! 👍

I love your editing. And you describe techniques better than anyone else on youtube. You also seem to have a beautiful voice yourself, would love to see more of your own singing videos.
