At age 16, Matt Corby auditioned for the 5th season of Australian Idol in 2007 where he finished as runner-up! I'm in Texas, USA and I'm probably one of the few Americans that actually got to see Australian Idol, I always downloaded the episodes with Bit-Torrent at the time. I loved the show and I really liked Matt a lot, he was my favorite and what a talent. I'm really glad he's still around and in the business doing what he does best, thanks for posting this video Beth, a very pleasant surprise indeed!

So jealous. I had no idea how to watch Australian Idol, so watched youtube videos. Matt blew my mind. Plus Mark's comments were always spot on. Matt introduced me to Damian Rice and another kid on the show to Imogen Heap. Lucky you for being able to watch entirely. Lucky us that Matt made it big. Do not watch the new Australian Idol. They care only about story and not the vocals. Sad given how great the show once was.

Matt is a virtuoso. He made an album like Prince did. He played every instrument and sang all the background vocals. A one man musical ensemble.And, it wasn't an homage to prince he said he can see entire orchestral arrangements in his head at once. So its easier to just play it all himself. Unbelievable.

“King of textures” Well said. He really is. I’ve been a massive fan of Matt Corby since his Made of Stone EP and Into the Flame. His talent knows no bounds. I’ve listened to a lot of great male vocalists, and Matt goes in my top 5, easily. You should also check out another song of his called “Resolution”!

Great reaction. Matt Corby is a multi-instrumentalist and he has an amazing vocal range, he just makes it look so easy :) His music is so soothing and beautiful. He is by far one of my favorite artists and I am really looking forward to his second album that's coming out on November 2 (soon!!!) If you ever get the chance to see him live I can recommend it. I've seen him live once and I have tickets to 2 of his shows in February 2019. You don't go to his shows to be "entertained", he is very much in his own world on stage. He can silence the room and have everyones attention when he sings which is rare today, it really is a magical experience!

I'm so happy you did this! Matt is probably one of my favourite artists of all time, he's just so musically and vocally skilled, I wish more people knew about him. He's released his second album now, it has such a different feel to his first album but is as equally amazing and very worth it to listen to!

The nostalgia I feel for this performance is quite strong. I discovered him back in 2009 and he's been getting better since. I saw him live at The Rough Trade in NYC a few years back and he was incredible. Great reaction Beth! You pick up on the nuances of his performance and interpret them well. 😊🎶

I know this isn't a new reaction (5 years old now) but I've just watched it and have to thank you Beth. You are the ONLY reactor that I've seen who made mention of Matt's driving the tempo and pitch of his voice through the guitar (or vice-versa) and it's such a key element of this performance for mine.

"Brother" is fav life performance next to Moloko "sing it back" 10 minutes performance. I could listen and talk about it all over but not like a Beth.... she used some word and explanations than break down song in a great way plus easy to spot over her face she loved the experience. It was great from a music nerd perspective to hear opinion from a person who pay bills teaching singing :)

Beth, you made the comment about him not being afraid to let his voice break during the end part, what you didn't touch on, perhaps is the fact that those breaks were deliberate and the breaks themselves were all in key and they were all the same key, perfectly... He's like the modern day Jeff Buckley. Truly an amazing voice. ;)
