Thanks for posting this so quickly. If we are not able to view videos live we love having this resource available. Very comprehensive conversation. I have lots of notes. Texas has two problems: it is a difficult state to register to vote or cast a vote while becoming more difficult each session which results in low turnout; the other problem is the Texas leadership is bent on proving its power rather than considering what is best for the people.

So glad to see this segment on public education! TX needs to do better and vouchers are not the answer. Can't understand why the state government keeps attacking this honorable profession! Recently moved to SC (for family issues) that has the school choice model and the rural schools are being closed down due to low enrollment. These kids are spending more time on buses to get to a public school. And these vouchers don't cover the total costs of the private schools, mostly affiliated with a churches. Most of these parents are now pulling their kids to homeschool since their options are shrinking.

In addition to all of Talarico's changes to better public education, we MUST get education funding back into traditional public schools. Proponents of charters schools and vouchers need to find another way to fund their agenda. Public school dollars have to remain in traditional public schools so we can have smaller class size and not 45 6th graders who sit on air conditioner units instead of having their own desks, so we can have more teachers and teacher aids, more school nurses, more counselors, more librarians, before and after school programs and building repair, maintenance and improvements. We cannot allow our schools to deteriorate due to lack of funding. Additionally, broadband expansion.

We all need to contact our state representative and tell him or her not to vote for school vouchers. It’s not up to two billionaires to tell us what to do with our tax dollars. We all pay taxes in Texas and those taxes need to stay with our kids in public schools

We’re already helping to fund Christian and charter schools… legally. They take public school funds and gives it to them, while teachers ask for lights bulbs from those willing to help with the resources they need.

Hello Beto! Glad to see you are still with us! I worry for my grandchildren and great grand children! Never stop talking to us! All of my older grandkids are on the way to their careers some graduating from high school and one on kindergarten whose school doesnt seem very stable on classroom and teachers stability! To many more teacher substitutes then teachers! Private schools will teach whatever and i consider it a private businesd!

Good discussion. However, I'm disappointed that being taught the things necessary to be a good citizen are not talked about. We need to bring back Civics, add Economics, and ensure our American history courses include the thinking our founders went through as they designed our government and the history of our wars, racial attitudes, immigration, etc. Our high school graduates should understand our past failures and have the foundational knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to keep the likes of Abbott, Patrick, and Paxton out of office.

I went to Catholic school for eight years and never experienced any abuse except to make you play baseball ! I hated running around a triangle so I would escape and go to the church in the premises and sit on the cool and quiet bench until the bell rang in one hour😅! Everybody went in dusty and sweaty and I was cool and happy! Not to mention that I believe God wanted me to be there!the sisters were serious and expected no BS from the troublemakers because they would call parents at work to come and pickup their disorderly kid, mostly boys! No religion is perfect and no education facility is either because molesters are everywhere they see an opportunity to invade and do harm! Molesters pick families with kids, playgrounds, community centers, libraries, you own brother in law and you would think he is nice when you meet him! They target Churches, and run candy and toy stores! Ask any counselor!

Wish there was a 24/7 state of Texas news station like cnn, but only for Texas based political incite like c-span for just the state of Texas. I feel this would also help better educate people about anything political in the state of Texas, especially for when it comes time to vote. There needs to be a 24/7 Texas news station/channel like cnn, cspan, msnbc, newsnation etc. There are so many laws, propositions, counties, representatives, senators, congressmen & issues that makes it harder or more complexed for registered and non-registered voters to keep up on from time to time. Who’s running & what they stand for or will not stand for? Many voters are mislead into who they really want to vote for by the billionaire’s who tell them who they should vote for. Yet, why can’t there be a 24/7 news station based on state’s politics? Who’s running & what they stand for even before & after trials, debates & voting? Where people from the different counties in a state can catch up on what’s going on in different counties of the state they live in by tuning into a 24/7 state station? I’m late to the discussion here, but I’m really concerned about the amendment vote passed to lower property taxes a while back. As far as I can tell, the discounted property taxes were to the detriment of school funding, though it was not publicly disclosed that that was where the money was being pulled. The tax bills that went out were very scammy and mislead voters, IMO. Untethering school funding from property taxes has me very worried. Was this an early step to defund public schools altogether? Where can I find more information? My kids are grown and I recently moved to a small town where the schools are woefully underfunded.

I would never let my child attend a school for religious instruction. That is not the place for it and every person that I know that went to Catholic school will tell you that they were practically abused by the teachers and nobody would do a damned thing because it was a religious school so they couldn't. Let the wealthy people keep and pay for their own schools if they want to. Keep public schools religion free.

Youth are the future of any nation! Commentators are certainly right that teachers in such undervalued position are underpd. There is a need for basic ed, that has been pushed aside for controversial govt social agenda. Reportedly, H.S. students can no longer name the states, or ident foreign nstions on a map, etc.,? Maybe, because of humanists Sup Crt ruling that pub schools could no longer adhere to brief historic class room practice. For yrs and yrs, after Constitution, public school teachers began morning session w brief non denom Bible reading of a Psalm, folloed by class resitation of Lords prayer, respect to the Creator. Maybe, decision by the Supremes.was the reason for resulting youth drug culture, nation in prolonged wars and defeats, besides youth attrocities in their class room? What is wrong w Ten Commandments posted on the wall? Are students required to bow down? Or, atheistic/Satanic teaching and encouraging change sex, better? Is academic historical ref to religions, and that of U.S. better, or that resulting in incressed teen age crime, and youth killings in their class room? U. The only thing that it will dismantle is the school boards. The school boards are expecting a certain amount of money from the district. I think this is great. The teachers just got a raise way above average. Let them work for it. Some parents don’t go home at the end of the night. If you make more money without running a business than parents, then you better be worth it.

Beto is from El Paso and witnessed the grief that an individual driving 800 hundred miles to El Paso solely to go and kill Mexicans caused !He not only killed some Mexicans who had come across legally to El Paso to shop at Walmart but he killed American kids and families who were Hispanic! He killed the parents of a newborn who survived because his parents threw themselves over his body! I n all, he killed kids selling cookies for a school fundraiser, grandparents who were shopping! This man had an AR-15 Rifle and many other rifles in his car! His town had a Goggle notice saying they followed the Trump policies! Beto at the time that he saw the massacre said many things and apparently that was one of them because of the legalized AR 15 rifles! Now every Tom Dick and Harry keeps repeating it as if that identifies Beto! I believe it identifies every El Paso resident that saw the massacre on live TV! I am not related to Beto but he has run for office and his parents were and are well known in El Paso! He was concerned and more with the Uvalde shooting that followed! Same scenario!
