Same here. I’m an atheist going through clip after clip. I’ve always been an atheist. Even as a child. But I’ve also always felt that what Jesus actually said was very different from what you read in the bible. Well, if Jesus even truly existed. But the ideas and philosophy always struck me as both valid and universally ignored from almost every religious person I met. Not here.

I’m not religious. In fact I think religion is one of the most divisive instruments in the history of the world but I have to say this man makes me realize that it’s not religion that’s the problem. It’s the inauthentic believers. This man is an authentic Christian and shakes my world view in a beautiful way.

Religion has been responsible for some of the most terrible people, wars, Catholic reformation. Awful things have happened because of religion. You've got to find the right church. Seek out affirming churches. The chance on of them having a pastor that bases their work on the core teachings and example of Jesus (walking radical path of love, caring for the marginalised and vulnerable, questioning problematic societal norms and hierarchies) is quite high.

I agree I've never really understood speaking in tongues. It happened in the Bible for a specific purpose. It was because there were people from many countries in the audience who needed to receive God's message so the disciples spoke in tongues so they could all understand. I didn't think it was to show off how religious you are. It's fine I won't criticize. I just don't understand the purpose.

This is my third experience listening to this young legislator. I heard two previous "sermons" earlier today. He is one of the best examples of practicing Christianity today. He is forthright, honest, and an expert speaker. He proves that one does not have to be loud and boastful to command the attention of his listeners. I tend to fall asleep during most sermons. I had no such inclination because I believe that he is directly feeding my soul the food that it needs. There is no doubt that he has caught a lot of heat from the religious right. I rank him with Andy Stanley as a leading Jesus follower of our day.

James Talarico is a true follower of Christ. The Christian has only one tool - LOVE. We are called to be reformed from the natural man to become children of God. In that process, we realise that we are all equal and brothers, some more developed/reformed than others. But as true Christians, when the more mature encounters another, maturity does into service. James has put God"s word to the test and hard as that is, he has discovered that it works towards his development and satisfaction and to God"s glory. His reformation is confirmed by scripture - 'When a man's ways please the LORD, He maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him." The true Christian do not destroy an "enemy" he transforms him with LOVE into a brother in Christ. Only today I came accross James and I love you my brother in Christ.

01 August 2024. H'mmm. A Christian church which, unlike others, I would gladly enter. A Christian leader, so different from those who proclaim me to be damned to their hell for not believing in their god in their way. A voice in the wilderness. One who accepts that I follow my "other" path to meet, greet and break bread with "others" in their search. Who seems to be glad, in advance, of the possibility of having our paths cross sometime. Speaking as a former Christian I have to say that my faith reinforces my politics. The love I feel for my fellow humans leads me to be more aligned with Democrats. I wish that more people were like that. Increasingly I saw that people were more Christlike outside of organized religion. That is still the case, but you give me hope, Mr Talarico.

You are a gifted thinker and messenger. I am not religious, I would love it if you also gave some credit (besides the deserving Mr. Rogers) to one of the greatest and most maligned secular movements in our history - the hippies of the 60's love generation. They practiced radical love, radical freedom, were imperfect and scared the crap out of the establishment. Anyway, I hope you run for president, it would be radically lovely.

I appreciate you being a voice in the wilderness. We should love and respect each other more than we do. We should have empathy for those who serve us and those we serve, and those in need. I believe the key to building empathy is through Selfless Service. There is nothing more rewarding than being able to help someone in their time of need. I am not a religious person, though I believe I am spiritual. My guiding principal is: treat other as you would want to be treated.
