@dannysalgado39656 жыл бұрын
Marisa Mary I remember hearing about someone who took out a mortgage type loan out to pay off a student loan that the kept defaulting on and they even settled for a 30 year fix, also it all depends on your credit score but you can always have someone co sign, my advice to you would be to settle for that if that's even possible and also to get rid of any other debt that you may have starting who credit cards. I mean I'm no expert in all this but that's the only advice I can give you.
@mmc85396 жыл бұрын
Danny Salgado Thank you! That’s an excellent idea, I’ve never heard or thought of that. I’ve never had to default, but I did defer my loans for a couple of months here and there during hard times, so no dings on my credit score. This would be great since my boyfriend is in even more debt than myself. Residents make significantly less than minimum wage if you consider the hours they put in. He could wait until the end of the program, but he would pay thousands more in interest, therefore we collectively pay about $2200 a month in student loans. After that we can pay our other bills.

The Republican party is just as disgraceful. Obama tried to lower the interest rate on student loans (by half) and Republican's wouldn't have it...they are charging interest so they can profit off the loans which is not how the Government is suppose to work. They also denied the law Obama tried to pass where they could not require students to pay more than 10% of their salary -- regardless of the amount of their salary...minimum wage and up. This situation is just another horrific event under this horrific administration, but the Republican's have been fighting anything that would give people a chance to repay their loans without having to give up their first born -- so to speak.

OldTeaMate ... We are all going to take responsibility for military expenditures for the rest of our lives. Thank the previous years grads for bringing us the debt based economy which is drowning you and all the rest of us. Rest assured, the working class had precious little if anything to do with it. They are not going to help pay student loans, they can't afford it either.
@evanj7066 жыл бұрын
advocatus diaboli, come on man, "no one forced you to go to college" is not the answer. Your points seem to come from mostly a selfish "even if it helps the country overall I don't wanna pay for nothin'!" kind of place, BUT, your points about kids taking responsibility aren't wrong. Kids should go for any scholarship, or grant, or just borrowing as much money from family as possible before going for student loans, and even then you have to be realistic with yourself as far as how much you can pay, how often, and maybe most importantly, how badly it could screw your life up if all that fails. Ultimately, probably the answer is somewhere in the middle. An active, disciplined approach to any loans, and an overall cheaper college experience, be that through increasing scholarships or decreasing tuition costs or putting restrictions on the interest student loans can charge.

They give us 6 months to not only find a job, but to begin paying that money back. I think they should give us at least 2 years. Why? Because in any career, regardless of your major, you start out making less money. In 2 years you should be able to work your way out of beginner's wage & maybe, just maybe you can afford the ridiculous payments that you'll have to pay every month for, literally, the rest of your life. I'm terrified I'll never be able to buy a house now. I'm also concerned I'll never be able to get my Masters degree because I cannot even afford my Bachelors! This is not how you grow an economy. And a $50 charge on a credit card I had in 1999 has, despite being disputed, has now been sold of to a collection agency that wants $2400 due to interest. I'm a former debt collection agent that worked for a successful and well self-monitored company in Canada. I used to work in a US portfolio and the number of people in the US that told me how nice I was for simply following country and state laws was very saddening. Debt and unfortunate circumstances go hand in hand and people need solutions to their debt problems, not intimidation. Debt collectors don't need to be bullies when they can be teachers, too many are poorly trained. I was very lucky to work for a company with integrity that felt training their workers and providing a supportive environment was a key element to success for staff, clients and debtors alike. Collectors aren't all bad!

There is no conflict of interest. DeVos divested herself of her holdings in LMF WF Portfolio, a limited liability Corporation which had holdings in the two companies in question; although there is lingering doubt about her ethics in that she might have influenced the Department of Education in the new debt-collection contract, none of this is true. As an investor she had no direct or indirect contact with the people running the companies and as she has sold off her commitment with the LMF Portfolio, so she would have no MOTIVE to influence the Dept. of Education to use Windham Professionals and Performant Financial Corp. The decision to award contracts to Windham Professionals and Performant Financial Corp. - a company DeVos invested in before becoming secretary - arrives a month after a federal judge ordered the department to complete its selection of a loan collector to put an end to a messy court battle. Windham and Performant beat out nearly 40 other bidders for contracts valued at up to $400 million, so what the government did was go with low bid contractors that would be the cheapest to operate and has nothing to do with DeVos as Secretary of Education.

Even people who have become permanently disabled and on Social Security can and DO have their little income garnished monthly for a loan that balloons from 3k-7k from debt collection companies selling the debts on the market, and the lawyers tagging on 3k+ or more on small education loans.. The reason there is this quote of 35k+ quote is that the loans have ballooned with the added fees for merely a loan being bought out..
